  1. And finally after disassembling and modifying the old audio stand, this thing sticks out the back 3 inches! Also had to remove the gorgeous piano black wood sides, I gotta get me a new stand! This shot is very dark, I know! but gives the idea of lighting, the aluminum panels on the front also have all four edges from behind lit up with the blue as well, can't see but very cool. Thoughts on sound very quickly, tons more authority, much better defined bass and smoother through whole spectrum and of course tons of power, after a whole disc in DVD audio cranked pretty good it was still only room temp. on top!..my poor old Yammy was on full speed fan and ready to fry bacon and eggs..lol. more later.
  2. Some pics of the modules which operate as a monobloc design each as you can see with its own huge transformer which share the chassis as a common power rail but thats all, no crosstalk here kids. Getting ready to intall the power modules, as you can see( I hope) the build quality of this gear is absolutely first rate, all compnents went together very slickly. Installing the modules is as easy as removing the rear plate and sliding them in and 4 screws to retain it.
  3. Hi folks, finally got the new amp yesterday, for those of you who are interested I took some pics of setting these up mainly do to the Power Module design and also the sheer size and heft of this brute. This box took a few direct hits...hoping its ok. Packaging is first rate( good thing) all double boxed, this the chassis in its black cloth sack. The chassis unveiled, Check out the packing on the power modules, boxed, each module in its own box and this inside ]
  4. Get the most power you can afford, from what I understand, those RF-7's in particular like tons of juice flowing as do most big speakers like my 83's and they are going to get it. My new amp just came in and am going to pick it up now, news at 11..[]
  5. Agreed, love my 971, amazing value. Would love to hear your thoughts on an a/b comparison with the Cambridge for CD's!
  6. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your support...I'm sure it will show up soon.
  7. Thanks guys, hey Mas....if it was weather related why after several calls over 2 days they said it was lost, not delayed due to weather. I take it you or someone close work for them, I know the feeling , my airline gets bashed all the time. Buckster, how are ya? I'm close to NY state, across the border in Waterloo, Ontario.
  8. Hey everyone, for those who care(me for one) my amp chassis is finally on the move again after being lost for the last 84 hours! Shipped out of Harrisbug PA at 7:16 this morning....yeaaa. I'm hoping it should make Niagra Falls(picking it up) by Monday morning.
  9. From what I gather, its more about harmonic vibration causing jitter in the transport... Michael, tend to doubt anyone could hear any fidelity at 120db...LOL and I thought I liked it cranked, and i do! what are these pods you are talking about? was also thinking about those soft pucks you can get for indoor/small kids use?
  10. Hi there, my Ht is 20x14 and I have a 96' Da-Lite Cinema Vision 1.3 gain. First off I would make the room deeper and less wide, better sound and also better to sit back a bit further. I just got my PJ Z-5 calibrated today and the matte white 1.0 would have been plenty of gain, I would suggest you don't need that bright a screen at that size, the guy had to crank my settings way down cause it was so bright. That screen size will be nice in that room..12' wide but you will have to watch what speakers you use, the 83's for example will be too big. just my thoughts, Chris
  11. I have no idea, Emotiva said they were responsible till delivery so it shoudn't be an issue, From all accounts they are excellent with customer service, guess I will find out come Monday morning when I ask to have another one shipped assuming they don't find my amp by then.
  12. I am so annoyed, waited all week for my new amp and sure enough the amplfiers themselves showed up(2 seperate boxes) but the chassis is lost. Just my luck, thanks UPS! What can brown do to screw you?
  13. Hey Audio, I had to laugh(not anal enough) with that list of equipment you have.
  14. Stephen, my 971 has DVD audio but yes the SACD would have been nice, bought mine 2 weeks before the 981 was available....oops.
  15. Yes exactly, going to go buy some pucks today. Hello, may I help you? Yes, i need some hockey pucks for my CD player...[*-)]
  16. Hi all. I was wondering if any of you have heard this tweak where you place hockey pucks and other dampening type items under the feet of CD players and turntables etc? I can see it with turntables , I remember getting feedback through mine when cranked too high,,LOL. But some folks swear its the cheapest easiest most effective tweak for CD players. I assume this would therefore hold true for DVD players as well? Comments from experienced users of this method appreciated and especially from DR Who. Regards, Chris.
  17. For movies, I agree, the THX2 is by far the way to go. I myself love music first and foremost and thats why I wanted my 83's. Tobby, you are right though, some folks forget how much they actually love music till they hear it on a system that really shines and does what a good system is supposed to do, sound fantastic to you. Personally I hadn't listened to alot of 2 channel in quite a few years, I got caught up in the DVD concert thing, when I got my 83's i rediscovered my CD collection and now hunt for new discs that don't sound like crap.
  18. That 63 system would be very nice and no ceiling tiles if possible, just my two cents though and also ensure you put soundblock insulation in before drywalling the ceiling, sounds obvious but the guy that built my HT (previous owner never did).
  19. Hi there and welcome, get the biggest baddest speakers you can afford, its that simple. The speakers are by far the most crucial part of a good Ht or 2 channel system. BTw, sounds like you have really done a nice job with your HT, congrats and keep us posted and send pics, we love pics!! Go with the RF83 system modded to suit budget(i.e cheaper SUB) or the 83 system with 63's up front instead, there are lots of combos...would you like cheese on that sub?..hehe. Even the 82 system as Detroit said is good and will rock your socks off, almost got them myself. But got this As Buckster said, Klipsch is king.
  20. Aviserated, thats a pretty broad statement, it never ceases to amaze me how some people think they have the best system in the world. If you like it thats fantastic, thats what its all about but to say it will kill most HT systems is complete nonsense. My dad can beat your dad up....grow up.
  21. Detroit, I will for sure, should be here friday, I have to drive to pick it up in Niagara Falls...saves on brokerage fees. Fish has one of their amps and says its awesome.
  22. The Emotiva MPS-1 is $1300 for the 5 channel version factory direct...a true bargain. and free shipping!!!
  23. Thought this may be of interest if you are looking for a new amp and don't want to break the bank. The unit may be ordered in 2-7 channel configuration and it is basically a monobloc design with a central power chassis although each module has its own powersupply. Chassis is $300 plus $200 for each channel added, pretty sweet hey? Free shipping on all orders till the end of Feb!!! Also of note is that Secrets of Home Theatre.com measured each channel at 210watts which is 5% above rated power. Emotiva MPS-1 7CH Modular Multi Channel Power Amplifier Emotiva caught us off guard last year with their new modular cage card 7CH power amplifier - the MPS-1. Its use of high quality parts (such as 105 degree C rated capacitors), and high build quality is a rarity at this price point. Though it didn't quite hit rated power, it proved to have excellent power reserves, channel separation, bandwidth uniformity and commendably low output impedance which are many of the prime metrics in defining great amplification. See our measurements and analysis and you will quickly understand why we are fans of this amp. Pair this amplifier with a quality receiver such as Yamaha RX-V2700, Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS or a Denon AVR-3806 and you have a separates killer at a fraction of the price one would ordinarily have to spend to get this level of performance and features along with enough left over amplifiers and independent zone controls to run speakers throughout the home for a whole house audio solution. Its fit and finish are top notch, making pride of ownership off the chart for those who require high performance and looks to go hand in hand. Best of all, price was reduced making this bargain amp even more irresistible to discerning budget minded audiophiles. MSRP: $2000 $1699 with free shipping | Buy it Now Direct from Emotiva
