  1. soundbroker, the dealer of the speakers can calibrate them? i own an old set of klipsch, is there any dealer in texas you know that can come over and set them up? is this a thx thing only?
  2. hey man, don't worry you won't be able to give me a hard time with this one. i am not the one who bought the "evil" thx speakers. i am just offering a "drawing" of approximate dimensions. the use of the drawing is just a guide of how the speakers should be facing and the approximate location in the room. westcott is very right, once you get the speakers in the general location, you will have to play with them and more importantly after you get the room set up the acoustic treatment is next.
  3. yeah, it seems that klipsch lovers are just nicer people.
  4. oh i would love to! just let me know where i can find a store that actually sells the rf63 speakers and i am there! maybe i will invite myself to some of the guys that are here and listen to their media room...lol. truth is i WANT to upgrade, but i won't unless i can hear a difference.
  5. hey mas, i would think you would have avoided this post like the plague! you know i meant that thx.com says the tv SHOULD be the dimension of your tv across x .73 is where you should sit. PHUNT knows that once he sets everything up he has to do the tunning with the processor and then the acoustic treatment. i would have drew him up the dolby digital config, but since he spent the money on the thx speakers, you might as well follow it all the way through. i am also assuming he will go out and buy all monster cables.
  6. i can tell you working on aircraft we do this. the twisted pair of wires, with no sheild, alone will prevent some emi. the twisted pair with the sheild prevents most emi. now according to the engineers i work with, you can float one end and ground the other and it will work just fine. also in most cases you just float both ends and it should also work as well. in the aircraft we have hundreds of these pairs of wires running mostly over 100' all tied together. we normally ground both ends, but there is a few applications that we just ground one end. sounds a little gibberish... basically you don't HAVE to ground an end. you CAN ground one end and you will be okay. if you can ground both ends it may work better. the only thing to remember keep as much of the sheild as possible. only strip back no more than 3" on each end. also trim the sheild so there are no stray strands and if you have it, put heat shrink over the cut strands so it makes it a clean termination. (basically covering up the sheith that is cut back).
  7. mas, i knew you would chime in. i am just trying to get a little feel on what to look for in a speaker. i currently have the 10.5 set up. i don't really know if i have something that is ok, good, great, or well it will do. if i look to upgrade i need to know what i actually am upgrading. it is obvious that the rf 83 and rf63 have much better numbers than mine, but again i don't really know if my numbers are even bad. i figured when i bought them, klipsch is the greatest speakers the average person can buy. anything above klipsch to me starts around $10,000 a speaker. i defiantly know you won't be able to go to c.c. and buy better speakers. (i was going to say b.b. but they now sell klipsch) i have my eye on the rf63 set, and i know they are a better speaker, i just don't know how much better they are and are they worth the extra money. to date i love the sound, all the movies i play sound awesome. that is all that i was meaning by asking the question. i know you can't solely judge a speaker by a few numbers.
  8. alright here you go with the 85" screen (across). i also didn't know which thx speakers you had i did label them. if i have them incorrect please let me know. it looks like you should have room for two rows of recling chairs. thx room.pdf
  9. i have the 10.5 speakers and to me they sound great. later on when the house comes and there is way more money my wife says i could look at getting the rf63.
  10. alright, i will adjust the drawing when i get home. just remember the dimentions will never be exact because the construction of the wall isn't perfect. this way with the drawing it gives you some kind "look" how to set it up (at least the way thx states). let me know if there is any additions you will need. i can draw in the chairs if you use the belkon ones. i have the dimentions for those.
  11. alright, that sums it up. thanks for the input. i was trying to see how much a difference the rf83 vs the rf63 was. it seems that they are very close to each other, i will most likely never be able to tell the difference because i will never get high enough in electronics. that helps me decide which way to go. thanks again guys.
  12. okay got a question. looking at the specks on the rf83 vs rf63. here is the specks on the rf83: frequency response 29Hz-21kHz +/-3dB sensitivity 100dB @ 2.83V / 1m high freq crossover 1650Hz the specific question is, on each category is higher the number good or bad????
  13. here you go. i drew the room up. i used the dimensions from klipsch... of course...and i input all the dimensions from thx.com this is where you want your speaker placement according to thx.com. don't forget after you get all this stuff placed in there and hooked up, you will need some kind of acoustic treatment. thats a whole other ball of wax. i for one have no idea how to do it right, so i just might hire someone. if this is how you actually want to set up your room i will give you the dimensions for the speaker placement, like from what distance they are on the wall...stuff like that. also i guessed about the tv. i am assuming you meant 92" ACROSS it matters to thx. i would need the ACROSS dimension. thx room.pdf
  14. here is my current et center. it holds a 36" regular tv (tube), processor, cable box, dvd player, sony ps2, and a vcr. it also holds the klipsch c-5 center speakers along with two cubby holds to hold several dvds or games. entertainment center.pdf
  15. here is one example, this one holds a 70" tv, outlaw audio 990 pre/pro, outlaw audio 7700 amp, blue ray player, sony ps2, and klipsch rc-64 center channel. there is also two spots where i would have drawers installed. new et center.pdf
  16. well let me know what you actually want in the et center and i can sketch something out. give me an over all highth, width, and depth, and then all the components.
  17. okay, cool cockpit. i thought it was something different. it looks like the falcons a little.
  18. http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-Jets-Attack-Aircraft/dp/6305138419 http://store.aetv.com/html/subject/index.jhtml?search=&start=131&itemType=&searchType=&subject=&priceRange=&closedCaptioning=&SORT_BY=&SORT_ORDER=&searchStr=&id=wwf1000 this above site is where your going to get all the good dvd videos. http://store.aetv.com/html/search/searchindex.jhtml?search=heavy+metal&itemType=All&key=||heavy%20metal||&_requestid=436657 here is a sub catorgry for them. it looks like videos on specific aircraft, even the black bird.
  19. i drew something up quick. i used the tv i am going to be using, it's the sony 70" (http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/876362.aspx) thats the tread i have it posted in. if you give me some specific dimensions i can draw exactly what that room will look like. dolby digital set up stephen.pdf
  20. jet jockey, what cockpit pic is that from??? mpmiller, just my suggestion, either go with outlaw audio (www.outlawaudio.com) and get the 990/7700 combo, or go with sunfire. sunfire will be a lot more money. quite a few people here stick with the outlaw because it's not that expencive and it works great. i suggested the 7700 because it is the 7 channel amp and it's ballanced, it's also 200watts per channel. you didn't list the speakers so i didn't know what kind of watts you can handle.
  21. mas, no more suggestions? i guess now i have to get the room built, everything in it, turn it on, and measure before i do any more tweeking. well it's going to be a long wait then...lol never hurts to wait for what you want.
  22. okay, not too sure about how the house is built or where you are running it from, but here is an idea. take the wire and wrap it with a paper clip, several times if you have to. then take a good high powered magnet. see where i am going with this one...when you put the wire in the hole, place the magnet over it, the pull the wire with the magnet. just an idea.
  23. i think this is going to be the initial set up. i didn't want to put the surrounds 90degrees from me because of the possible echo effect. i figured if they were offset a little it might help out. i know later down the road i will need bass traps, and all the other stuff. dolby digital set up 1.pdf
  24. hey guys, just jumping in for a second. i looked at blue jeans and cable solutions (it the ebay company i am talking about), and blue jeans uses 24awg twisted with a copper wrap (used as a conductor) and cable solutions uses a quad cable with 21 awg. now obviously cable solutions uses larger wire, but why a quad set up? what is the extra wire used for? i check both web sites and there is no explanation for this. please help, it may determine my next amp.
  25. i live in lewisville right now, i might be moving to rockwall. yeah i was asking for you worked for dassault in little rock. that would be cool to do the training on those planes. i worked for the company for 4 years building every model they have. i like the 2000 line the most. the 50ex was a pain in the neck! i have to admit they are some of the best built planes out there. the inspection on them takes so long and they are very through.
