Well, the weak link finally started acting up, so I have to replace the Sony CD player. Any suggestions or recommendations within the $200-$300 price range? I've been looking at the Denon's, Nak MB8, Yamaha various units, but not too impressed w/Yamaha specs.

I've heard of inflation, but WTH
Klipsched with Yamahas replied to Klipsched with Yamahas's topic in General Klipsch Info
To be honest Pauln, it's been packed away w/my TEAC since I relocated (not enough space), so I'll have to get it out and put it to the scope for closer inspection. I figure the unit has about 200-300 hours Maximum, of useage since date of purchase. If not now, I will eventually require another one, since my vinyl collection is HUGE. I am in the process of getting my components restored to specs. Just had the amp/preamps serviced, but still have a little scratchiness in the balance/volume controls. Cannot find an authorized Yamaha service center anywhere close. But I digress, and let's just say it would be after the holidays before I proceed in acquiring another cartridge, but DAYEM I can't believe the increase. Thanks, Mark (stupified) -
OK, so I do a search for possible turntable cartridge replacement (MMC-2) for my B&O which I paid around $300. OMG, B&O website wants $899 + shipping. WOW, my old cartridge is sounding better by the minute.[] Now there must be alternatives! GEEZ!

Accidental acceptably perfect system?
Klipsched with Yamahas replied to pauln's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Took me (10) years to piece mine together, but the equipment I wanted (and still want) aren't within my wherewithal (financially speaking). Thank goodness for hi-end stereo shops. Trade this, buy that.....and haven't upgraded a single home unit piece in 20 years(except for the POS CD player, which has now began to go up) Seems car audio has gotten into my wallet instead (lol). Now when I approach the SQ level there, then it'll be time to upgrade the home system. At the moment, close on tonality, but NOT the imaging. Yes, I would consider myself fortunate and satisfied w/my system's performance. -
Sweet, and I'm thinking about digital for my next car audio project, but I love those JBL GTI Crowns. BTW, I've got the xovers pulled, and they look almost brand new. I'll be sending them out 2nd week in November. Thanks, and have fun w/those directions(hope they aren't as bad as the Alpine F1) [6]

I'm told Klipsch horns sound "harsh"???
Klipsched with Yamahas replied to JetSnake's topic in Home Theater
I would definitely put KLIPSCH in the TOP 3 for overall performance, if tuned properly and acoustically setup correctly(placement). Again, everyone has different opinions, and hearing capabilities. -
WOW.....nobody told me this was an A/V thread [][] I concur, she's music to my ears ( and eyes)

I heard a set of Snell's the other night, when down visiting a friend! I was darned impressed. The R312's Cerwin Vega were a nice 3-way book shelf speaker system, and of course I have always like the studio JBL equipment (classic JBL and Cerwin Vega) I would put Dahlquists and Canton on my list also.

Best engineered and recorded CD's
Klipsched with Yamahas replied to JetJockey's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Mark Cohn, The King Singers, Allison Krauss, Chuck Mangione, and many of the Sheffield CD's.....all very good! Most of the "UNPLUGGED" versions are also very well recorded. As for more contemporary music, I LOVE Bony James (sax), and his CD's have quite a variety of talented musicians/vocalists. Many of my favorites have already been mentioned! -
I've had my TEAC in mothballs for almost 8 years now, but gettin' the urge to unpack it, and set it up! Just not much room in my trailer! Long story, but had to sell the house, and space is a premium. NOT my best acoustical setup considering, but one must do, what one must do!

Cornwall IIIs, to rewire or not...?
Klipsched with Yamahas replied to WPM's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I wasn't trying to "dis" Kimber, just a cost/benefit analysis and personal decision. GREAT QUALITY product(s), I would definitely agree! Somthing stuck between the ears, that says "no way, I'd pay those prices". Not so sure my system is hi-end enough for those products. I've stuck w/Monster cable over the years, and pro-series Tsunami RCA's. Now if you can recommend better products that don't require a mortgage, I'd love to hear them. -

Kinda like going overboard on these: http://www.kimber.com/ Never could justify the cost in my mind! -
True confessions: I am an owner of a 3-2-1 system......[:$] No volume, but it does the job! NEVER owned a set of speakers until I purchased this system (overpriced IMO)

Well, (a) I would assume that it would take major marketing dollars to gain market share, and ( being a very cost competitive industry (outsourcing overseas manufacturing - Taiwan, Korea, etc.) to keep costs down. I can certainly understand WHY NOT, but with the Klipsch name, I would have thought their would be a small hi-end market for their products. Of course, how many Nak's, Mac's, and Harman HU's are sold annually? Probably very few! Again, if you can find your niche, probably better off focusing on those strengths. Supposedly, at CES this winter, JBL will be introducing their new Model #XX-X (7.1 DSP processor) that is supposed to be an impressive piece of equipment for car audio. I don't want to openly publish the model #, since this hasn't been fully released to the public quite yet. I just got thinking that with ID offering their own set of HLCD's, that Klipsch could rival them with their own set. Ain't nothing like a set of PROPERLY TUNED horned drivers for automotive application in SQ. Just curious!

LMAO.... classic? How about historic? Some of the best equipment (including car audio) are older (non-mass produced) products like JBL (pre-Altec Lansing), and some of the home Cervwin-Vega products from the 70's. Not saying I would ever want to go back to tubes, but they do have their place also. Between my graphic and parametric(pre-amp), I can pretty well control the system, but I have tweaked as much as possible, and feel I can still obtain more! Not sure I actually (preferably) like the natural sound as opposed to other equipment I have used in the past, but almost absolute zero THD. I was mostly impressed with the specs, and w/processing I can overcome the sometimes (IMO) sterile sound. WOW, I didn't realize that many people ran Yamaha equipment. In this elite crowd, I figured Harman, Mac, Denon and some of the more obscure/unknown hi-fi brands.

No problem, I'll pull the backs off tomorrow and investigate....but I believe I purchased them in 1980 - 1982 from Sound Studio (now belly up) in Salisbury, MD. Thanks guys, I'll post back w/info. As for the Heresy's, my roommate back during my college days was so impressed w/my Cornwalls, he went and bought a pair of the Heresy's. I call them mini-cornwalls (lol). Funny thing is I fell in love w/Klipsch while attending a concert w/towers of Klipsch equipment. I mean I was deaf after 5 minutes, but didn't hurt my ears until afterwards. Just hard-hitting drivers, clean and tight w/pure sound pressure pushing me backwards. Now that is a true sign of GOOD speaker systems. Maybe someday I can get to HQ and visit the facility. The commercial equipment WAS, and I am sure still is, very impressive.
