  1. Sherbourne also make s very good pre/pro that is almost identical to the Outlaw 950. However, the review I read said that on paper, the Sherbourne's specs were a bit better than the Outlaw and that the Sherbourne did indeed have better electrical components than the Outlaw. In tests, the two compared favorably with a slight nod going to the Sherbourne. The test/review (I believe, if memory serves me) was in Home Theater magazine a couple of months ago. Tom
  2. Hey Tom - it's me...Tom I (well...the wife) owns a '03 TL-S in black. Sweet car, eh? Have you discovered acura-tl.com yet? There's some good stuff there - if you look hard enough. Our car is at the 20,000 mile mark and we've had a couple of nit picky things go wrong. Haven't had any transmission problems yet (rapping knunckles on head), but we just had the rotors turned cause they warped. Anyhow... Enjoy the car - it's great fun. Tom
  3. Thanks JM for the bracing advice. Sounds like an easy thing to do since there is plenty of scrap 2x4's and spare nails lying around the place. My Cornwalls will be the mains, fini's Heresy for the center and (for now) a single KSW15 will be in the right front corner. I've been given the green light for a SVS PB2-Plus with the stipulation that we get into the house first. BTW - the good folks from Audio Warehouse are at the house today pulling wiring & cabling (including LAN cable). The Family room in this house will have a TV cavity above the fireplace. In it we'll put our Toshiba 36", the wife's Denon 1802 and (for now) a cheapie DVD/VCR player. Sound will be via the wife's RB5's. I've got a Niles switch box that I'll hook to the Denon in order to run the patio speakers. Eventually, my Denon 3800 will retire from HT duty and replace the 1802. The wife wants an autonomous system in the Master bedroom, so the 1802 will assume that duty. I'm not sure what I'll do with my KSW15 when I get the SVS. I've got provisions in the Family room wiring for a sub, but I may get a smaller more musical sub and sell the KSW15. Of course....if one of you guys here was just dying to buy my KSW15, that would cause me to have to buy the SVS PB2-Plus now darnit. Tom
  4. Thanks for putting the pictures in. The room measures right at 15' wide by 26' long. The ceiling is a bit over 8 feet. All the electrical wiring was done by the builders' electrician and done to my requirements. In fact, I was at the house yesterday and Heath was finishing up installing some recessed cans and a few other things. And every time I asked him to move something or add something, the reply was the same, "No problem. Whatever you need just lemme know." I'm very please with the electrical work - much better than my previous three houses. All the HT wiring/cabling will be done by my audio dealer. Tom
  5. My Cornwalls are the vertical horn models. I have a pair of Heresy I's so I'll be able to do the A/B comparison once fini finds enough gym socks to pack that single Heresy in (sorry - inside joke) and ships it to me. My goal was to have all Heresy I's for side & rear surrounds and center. But looks like I might make do with a Heresy II for center. As for the prices on eBay....while I truly love Klipsch speakers (have had my Heresys since 1979), I think the price people are paying is a bit over-inflated. Oh well...all good things come to those who wait. Tom
  6. Well crap! I was gonna try and be all fancy shmancy and try to embed images like 'ol Justin does. Man...as dense as I am - I shoulda known better. Guess I'll have to do it the old fashion way. Here's the first one. Tom Adams
  7. Ok...someone much smarter than me needs to help me out here because when I pull this thread up I see photos within the text box. Whassup??? Tom Adams
  8. Hey Frzn... How'd you know I was getting that single Heresy from fini?? My ged - is nothing sacred on this board?? And yes...fini is being very gracious. Unlike those low-life sons-a-guns that out bid me on eBay. Oh - and thanks for the replies/opinions guys. Tom Adams
  9. Well...some of you asked for photos as my HT (and house) progresses, so here's some. Below is a shot looking towards the back of the room and my lovely wife and beautiful step-daughter. The door opening on the right leads downstairs and opening my wife is standing in leads to the attic. You can see the recessed lights and boxes for the projector. There will be Heresys (inverted) in the back corners placed at the top of the kneewalls. Main equipment rack will be recessed on the left (looking at the picture) with the equipment being triggered with an IR repeater. This is just a shot of about where the main A/V equipment will be. I had them install a dedicated 30 amp feed with it's own ground for the equipment. This is just a shot towards the front of the room. Again, you can see the recessed lights (6 of them). Additionally, we'll have 4 wall sconces (2 each side) on the kneewalls. The recessed, motor driven screen will be above the window. Until next time. Tom
  10. Anyone care to offer an opinion about how Heresy I's or Heresy II's match up with Cornwalls? Or does it really matter? I'm buying a single Heresy II to use as a center channel and my mains are Cornwalls. I'm just wondering if the Heresy II be ok or should I be looking for a Heresy I?? Thanks! Tom Adams
  11. Hey fini - About that single Heresy of yours..... I need one for the center channel in my new home theater. Can we talk?? Either way - email me at: tom.adams.iii@gulfstream.com Thanks!! Tom
  12. Elmoe - Yes, there are kneewalls on both sides. They are 6 feet tall and the ceiling rises up from there. Believe me - there will be no bumping of heads in this room. But I'm glad you asked for I need to post a new pic or two. As for K-horns....(sigh)....one can only hope. Tom
  13. Once again....I sincerely appreciate the suggestions, opinions, info and feedback from you guys. At this point my brain is telling me that at, let's say, the $3000 price point, there will be several projector offerings to choose from. Ho boy.....I can feel the confusion settling in to my brain. Looks like it's homework time. Tom Adams
  14. Thanks guys for the info. I've checked out Projector Central before and found some good info there. Will have to check out the other suggestions too. The Yamaha LPX-500 that my dealer has up & running (and quoted me a price for)is a very nice unit. However, the Optoma H56 seems (on paper) to be as good or better for about the same money. Additionally, the new Optoma H76 catches my eye if the rumored price is true. I know it's probably unfair to compare the LCD Yamaha to the DLP Optoma, but...maybe not. I dunno. This stuff is rather new to me still. Tom Adams
  15. Can anyone point me in the direction of some online reviews of front projectors? And preferably sites that are up-to-date? It's amazing how many online sites have such old info. TIA Tom Adams
  16. As some of you know, the wife & I have a new home under construction and it includes a dedicated HT room. Well, recently, the wife & I stopped at Audio Warehouse to set up a time for them to do wiring/cabling installation. After establishing when they need to do their thing, I wander around until I find the wife in their largest HT room relaxing in a Berkline theater chair watching Star Wars II on a 120" screen. I sit down and we both comment how crisp the image is and how quiet the projector is (she's also very impressed with the Berkline and so am I). Come to find out, the projector is a new Yamaha CRT unit that replaced the noisy ??? DLP they had in there. The wife asks me to explain (again) why I have decided to not go the front projector route in the HT. So I explain that: a) for the cost of the projector alone, I can get a very nice, very big RPTV; the screen can cost serious money; c) all the projectors I've seen have noisy fans. So she asks, "But don't RPTV images suffer when you're sitting too high/low or off too far to one side?" "Uh...well, yeah." "And isn't this a very nice picture we're viewing?" "Absolutely dear" "And you can't hardly hear the projector can you?" "Well....not really" "So why in heavens name, if we're gonna do this HT room, are we not gonna do it right?" Next thing I know, she & Mark are writing up a quote. Am I luck or what??? Tom Adams
  17. fini - Thanks for the link. Believe me....I've been reading as much as I can and posing many questions to my friends at Audio Warehouse to try and make my HT as good as I can afford. Notice the caveat, "as I can afford". Wow...left unchecked, it can get totally out of hand. One pretty much has to establish a budget and stick to it. As for gym socks...ho boy...you wouldn't believe what I got planned. BTW - you see where that prodj guy went and stole my gym sock gig to protect his speaker from a door knob whack? Why da nerve.... Tom Adams
  18. Thanks guys for the patience advice and I know you're right. I'm sure something "good" will happen to me just like my incredible vertical horn Cornwall find. What's that they say about all good things come to those who wait?? Anyhow...since I'm seriously looking for some Heresys for my HT, if any of you hear of some, please steer them my way! And at the risk of dragging this thread out.... Am I the only one that's noticing a pattern of the Heresys going for higher amounts than Heresy II's? Tom Adams
  19. Man....please. Don't remind me about Heresys on eBay. I was bidding on a pair that I was praying that I'd win. But when the price went to $510 and I got to thinking about the potential $100+ for shipping....well, I called it quits. Call me a cheap bastid but I just couldn't see paying possibly $650 for them. I mean, I only paid $900 for my Cornwalls a year or so ago. I dunno - maybe that's the going price for Heresys?? Yes? No? What really disappointed me was that the serial numbers were very very very close to the serial numbers of my Heresys. I just thought it would be cool to have two pairs of Heresys that were made probably 2 or 3 months apart. Oh well..... Tom Adams
  20. Ok Trey...I promise, I promise, I promise, this will be my last question. What advantages/disadvantages would you see with me using a KPT-250 for surround versus a Heresy (other than than that cool, purposeful, industrial look ). Tom Adams
  21. Not to drag this out Trey...but are you saying that you feel a KPT-250 voices close to Cornwalls & Heresys? Tom Adams
  22. Trey - Can I pick your brain a bit about your choice of side surrounds? First, the Klipsch website doesn't list a KSM-2. There are KSM-12's & -15's. Is this kinda what you have? And why did you choose these? The reason I'm so curious is that (depending on your answer), your choice of those pro speakers opens up a whole new set of options for me to consider for my Cornwall main anchored HT. As for the center and subs, I'm assuming that was a tinkering project? Thanks man! Tom
  23. For you jazz fans or folks that want to get into that genre, here's an interesting source: http://www.weather.com/aboutus/television/music/ Yes - the Weather Channel. Tom Adams
