  1. Mike, got your email, will call you soon.
  2. You are persistent. Here is the response I gave you on the Architectural forum. Audyssey has one for $2,500 plus a dealer kit for $325. See http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/916570.aspx Do they work. Well....................................................................maybe.
  3. Still haven't unboxed the f-113 yet. Bought it Monday. Looked at the outer carton Tuesday. Looked at the outer carton Wednesday. Looked at the outer carton Thursday. Thank God for the Week-end.!!! And thank the Lord for the nighttime.
  4. Buying a really big sub may get you moved out.
  5. of your health? No, concerned about her hearing and her internal organs. Did you know that with enough volume at the lowest frequencies you can make one physically sick and cause their organs to shutdown? True. But please don't try this at home. This should only be done by experienced professional audiophiles, in the privacy of their own homes. .....and if you do try it, make sure that you have 911 service in your area.
  6. Space can be a real issue. Really good compact subs can be hard to come by. Size is volume. I hate science. I can never get around it. There is a three sided triangle theory on this which Dr.Who can give you an article to read about it. ????? where? Right here: Basically, for a given motor strength the loudspeaker engineer has 3 main degrees of freedom: -Size of the Cabinet -Low frequency extension -Efficiency of the system Hoffman's Iron Law is a series of equations that describe the relationships between each of the above design criteria. Ignoring the math (unless you wanna get into it), "improving" any one of the design criteria to satisfy the desires of the market requires that you make sacrifices in other areas. For example, if you make the cabinet smaller and want to keep the efficiency the same, then the low frequency extension of the system moves higher. Or basically, you cannot make the system play lower without either increasing the size of the cabinet or reducing the efficiency. But if you don't mind a large cabinet, you can have the same efficiency AND the low frequency extension. This is why infinite baffle subs work so well. Another important thing to keep in mind is that most all distortion is a result of the movement of the driver. If you can reduce the amount of movement for the same SPL, then the system is going to have less distortion. Since SPL is tied to the amount of air displaced, the only way to reduce the cone excursion is to increase the total driver surface area. This is another reason why infinite baffles work so well. When you've got a small 12" driver in a small little cabinet, you've got all the variables working against you. Obviously, JL Audio has done some slick stuff with their motor to achieve their performance, so don't let me imply that you're hearing absolute crap. But it's still an iron-fisted approach, and for the amount of money and engineering put into that motor, I can't help but wonder what kind of performance they could be achieved in a cabinet twice or even four times the size. Heck, move to a 15" driver and now you need half the cone excursion for the same displacement! Double the size of the cabinet with a single 15" driver and you'd readily obtain 6dB more output all around. That can also read that you'll have 6dB less distortion at the same output levels. Of course, you could always purchase two units and achieve the same, but it's gonna cost way less when you've got a single driver in a single cabinet than multiple drivers in multiple cabinets. I know I'm looking at the problem like an engineer and I'm well aware that there is no JL Audio motor mounted to a larger driver in a larger cabinet, and that you probably feel like you purchased the best product that matches your criteria...and that may very well be the case (I can't think of anything off the top of my head that isn't DIY). That said, I think it helps to be aware of the huge hurdles the design is trying to leap over when wondering why the system doesn't meet expectations. In my eyes, you might as well purchase a wave runner designed to travel up waterfalls when it would be way easier to take an elevator built into the side of the mountain... I got this from DrWho at this link: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/5/914569/ShowThread.aspx if it is still active. This is what I meant by the triangle theory.
  7. Mike Benz I am waiting to hear from you about borrowing your measurement equipment.
  8. "....pork chitterlings and lamb fryes..." This has to mean to the South what "Cold Beer and Steamed Crabs" means to Baltimore. And don't forget "french fries with gravy" and "snowballs".
  9. I listen to rock music more than anything. For my whole life I have been just stereo 2.0 and then finally 2.1. I had both front and back speakers for stereo. My fronts were Forte IIs and my backs were KG-4s. However, this Winter I decided to make the switch from stereo 2.1 to surround 7.1. Boy, what a change. The sound complexity went up by a startlingly significant amount. There are so many more factors to consider with an eight channel system. Wow. Movies are less than 10% of my listening time so I have focused on creating a musical system that can also handle movies. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/885654.aspx http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/888415.aspx Let me know what you think of it.
  10. No can do. I know this looks stupid to anyone who is not over 50 and who has not lived in Baltimore during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. You see, how does one get over a love affair? How does one stop thinking about their true love? The Baltimore Colts brought such joy and excitement to their fans, granted in a prior era in football. An era before salaries went through the roof. An era that required many players to take on second jobs to make ends meet. An era, yes, of humility. I'm OK with the Baltimore Ravens. I am a fan of the Ravens but I have not been able to get over my loss. It's like indianapolis stole my memories and rememberances along with taking the team. Hard to get over. BTW, when is Klipsch planning to do a retreat in Baltimore? Or for that matter, anywhere but indianapolis? You know that there is a rumor that Klipsch is moving their headquaters out of indianapolis. Have you heard?
  11. Yes, but will you have any hearing left by then?
  12. Eventhough I abhor cats of all types, I am very sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easy nor ever forgotten when a beloved pet dies. Take care Tom. I'm sorry for your loss.
  13. Audyssey has one for $2,500 plus a dealer kit for $325. See http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/916570.aspx Do they work. Well....................................................................maybe.
  14. This is what you have to put up with when you live in South Mississippi. ps. It's about the same weather here in Baltimore, so go far north.
  15. I certainly hope that the cat got what it deserved.
  16. I doubt it. More power is never a problem to speakers as long as you don't overdrive or overheat them. Most speaker damage comes from distorted power being sent to the speakers. It is extremely rare for clean power to damage speakers.
  17. Sunday I bought two black Forte IIs. I am going to have them refinished in oiled walnut. Yes, fanatical but reasonable.
  18. Yes. It tastes a lot like chicken. I thought alligator tasted like chicken?[8-)] Chrissy, at some point I think everything tasted like chicken. It's become the way to refer to the taste of odd foods.
  19. Ladies and gentlemen, The woofing factor just went up. Monday I took delivery of my second JL Audio f-113 subwoofer. Once I get it hooked up then I can go back to square one and start the sound treatment journey all over again. What a hobby!!! Taking up all of my time. Someday, perhaps I can actually just pull up a chair, grab a drink and some snacks, and listen to music. That's it, just listen to music. Someday........
  20. Ok, this means you've got some phase cancellation with your main speakers. 3 feet at 80Hz is equivalent to about 90 degrees of phase rotation. I need to do some research on all the features on your F113 and then it would be immensely helpful if you could provide a top-down view sketch of your room. It doesn't have to be to scale, but it'll need to have fairly accurate dimensions. I know you've got all the pictures, but it's easier to work with a sketch. I'm also back in town so we can start talking about measuring some stuff too. DrWho, send me your address and I will hand draw the room for you.
