Garage sale booty, or How to score Cornwalls by Jeremy
two dot replied to capo72's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Unbelievable SCORE!!!! Nice work! I really like those grills, are they decorator or just new style cane? Also what is the rest of the equipment under the JM? I assume that is a TD 124, Right? -
Have you tried getthing them about 16" off the floor? Really helps, I think. Good luck and congrats.

This won't be much of a guess...but has anyone ever seen this one before??? [imghttp://say4567.smugmug.com/photos/126932201-M.jpg[/img]

This is one one of my favorite "reference" albums, I have played it 100's of times and everytime I look at that TT and wonder... what is that???? I have been jonesing for a 124 or something similar of late. It would be great to find a table of equal quality thet did not have the "cult status" value of the the 124.

At least the were blown by the master... I always say "there is no shame in being beaten by your master"....

Flynn, I have sent you a pm, I am interested in your Cornwalls. I am in Santa Barbara.

Seems like someone ought to mention McIntosh... Maybe an MA6200 or some such thing. Vintage McIntosh and Klipsch make a nice pairing.

Travis, You do not know me, but I know your pain. One of the worse facts of life is that man lives longer than his dog. Peace to you and your wife. Stephen

Ok guys... I guess I should have been more clear on "concert level"... I am not talking stadium rock at blarring, distoted levels. I am talking, quality, loud , small venue, thoughtful set up, good amps producing live music sounds. Lets not get a war started here...

Nice work Allan... Enjoy the table Gary.

Dean, Currently (but subject to change) my room is 12X17 with the sweet spot about 10 feet from my Cornwalls. I listen to a lot of old blues, rock and some jazz. I like to listen at concert levels. No neighbors, no wife, no kids, no tv, just 2 channel music. I plan on an appropriate pre also. Either Mc 220 or maybe JM. Thanks for your help. Stephen

Thanks Josh, Now... have you made a direct comparison between the Pcats and the VRD's? Just trying to learn all that I can here...
-
Thanks for the reply Speakerfritz, Not trying to rule out any of the other amps mentioned. I just knew that there were alot of folks here using and loving the VRD's...and the 275 is kind of a reference point that a lot of people know. At least more so than some of the small esoteric brands. Some of the posts that say "tubes changed my life..." have me thinking. I do not have a good way to home demo anything without just buying it and trying it. Thanks again. PS> I might start with a Mc tube pre and SS power.

I am in Southern California... thats part of the problem. It is a bit of a "tube wasteland" out here.
-
Interesting, thanks. I have sent craig a email to see what we might can do. Keep the opinions coming.
-
Ok, send me BOTH amps,... and I will do just that!!! Oh, BTW, please send a pre amp too!!!
-
Very nice thoughtful response.... Thank you Anyone else???

OK, you guys have me really dying to try out some tubes with my Cornwalls. I know there are a lot of VRD fans here... I think I will go with the Mc C220 in either case. Will I experience the same "transformation" with the Mc as the VRD's? Thanks in advance.
