  1. []thankyou jt1stcav, that chassis is actually what i made with MDF, a 12 year old saw, some black marble fablon vinyl, and Iron on teak veneer, the one using the jewellery box "bluey" number 1 is here.. http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=blueysnewwonderfi4.jpg And this is Bluey number 2 made from a presentation box for whisky.. http://img245.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture2kg1.jpg
  2. []Hi guys, and Steve6 i also am an owner of the RB-81, and i have to say they sound likewise astounding, with my Tripath amp and tubed CD player, they simply are the best and i turned down making a pair of transmission line speakers, worth £700 in kit from. (comparable to £2000 speakers when made), to have these. Fantastic and nice to hear somone else enjoyin these brill speakers[]
  3. Hi guys, long time since i came here, My Klipsch RB-81,s well, they are superb, but anyway.... [] I have a few pics of my 60 watt (8ohms) Autocostriuire Tripath T100, mounted in an enclosure i made over xmas. I have to say i have heard the likes of krell some mighty fine old Sansuis, yamahas, quads Audiolabs, Creeks, and some newer Bel Cantos, and Nuforce amps. For the money, The Trends TA10.1, (i own myself) and other tripath amps are fantastic value, also the clarity and depth of the best made tripath chips, can sound as good as any amp at any price. Im talking of two imparticular, the Amp 2, from the 41Hz website, and the "Truepath". (300 watts). Coldamps, and Hypex modules, are also classy. but the Truepath is, for the money, the best amp you will ever buy. one problem though. they are in kitform[:^)]. but i hope to have mine made from a fine fellow in Malaysia, from then on in, i will start constructing the ready made modules into a workable power amp. If it doesnt involve a nervous breakdown. I might make a few, and see if anyone wants one, but thats a long way off for now. I am going to be attempting to make a hypex, Truepath and coldamp power amplifier and see what one is the best. (i am still a novice to amp building, encosures and components, im motivated by the fascination and excitement of what these farily priced amps can achieve) Anyway named after the first sonic impact i stuck in a blue jewellery box(bluey), and then with this current amp board, into the second edition blue box, (bluey 2), Here comes, the Tripath bluey 3...TB3, dont laugh now, its my first attempt, took me ages to make this[]. http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1040651xd5.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1040634qk3.jpg http://img149.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1040602fb2.jpg http://img245.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1040628lb2.jpg http://img236.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1040644nu9.jpg
  4. I am in audio heaven because of one of these, My Ah Njoe tjoeb, My Klipsch RB-81, and a slightly modified, and battery powered Trends TA10. It sounds awesome, I urge you to buy. If you dont already have a $1200 - $2000 Amp. It really is supreme, and for the money, you wont get better. Unless you buy another chipamp. It was on the weight of the David Kan review of the Trends, and the matchup with the Klipsch, that started me, onto Klipsch, for their high efficiency. I am astounded by their performance, i thought it was all hype. Or perhaps ive caught a balance with all my gear, alll i know is i listen with a smile on my face. It altogether sounds so musical. I forget its only 10 watts im listening too. Ive owned £1500 of Audiolab 8000C/8000SX, triamped amplier setup, compared, that sounded cold clinical and dead. Let alone the sound, its peanuts. so much so, i may attempt to make a 100watt kit version. because the poor little chip, although runs them loud, cant handle constant driving techno, or rock. The Glory goes to Tripath, the makers of the chip amp, this has given high end performance for peanuts.
  5. The Rega planar 3 , goldring, Trends TA10/ Klipsch, is all sounding a bit magical. the New stylus is excellent. It might also be due to the Cambridge Audio 640 preamp i bought as well, im playing all sorts for fun at the mo. [] Anyone else on here got a Tripath chip amp with their Klipsch?
  6. Well i have got a selection of a few vinyl albums i know well, and all seems to be playing, and bedding in well. I tried to remember when i first got my G1022GX cart at first, and that sounded a bit shrill to start off with, now, mine did that , but is now sounding very balanced, with great weight and nice decays on cymbals. I know how musical my T amp is, and the glistening shimmy that they have on good recordings, and clean sound is starting to form on the new stylus. im sure a good few hours run in will have it warner and sweeter. It sounds excellent enough already, a defenite improvement over the 1022GX, stylus. I played the First Album i played earlier, straight off, and its not sounding rasping on the treble. Nice and balanced. thanks for the views and help guys, think i will be good now[]
  7. IVe been trying to get a turntable FAQ on google, and just cant find anything , in the short time i have on here, im just wondering as i have bought a new stylus, goldring 1042 for my Rega planar 3, how long will it take for the stylus to run in?? tracking and weght, anti skate is all optimum, just sounds a bit thin, somewhere i read run in was about 50 hours, i hope it will not be so bright , ina few hours thanks andy
  8. This is a picture of me and my son[] Actually, i dont have a son, this is what my Freind did, to a pic I gave him, of me and my best friends son, poor kid, hes only 8 and has a beard!
  9. No, i got them from an electronics shop, who trade on Ebay hickmanndegmbh. I only ever use 100% feedback sellers if im buying from abroad, and these guys didnt dissapoint, within 3 days of paying, they arrived yesterday. They go well with my Trends TA10, but i have to be careful, as because thy go loud, if i push them the extra the Amps cutout. but a great speaker for the money, (good value for money considering the prices for britain). As i say i cant wait to get my sub, as it will fill in down below. Im used to speakers that go down to 33Hz. this will sound awesome.[] Little update, as it seems the woofers putting out a lot more tuneful bass, if i never had a sub, It wouldnt matter, the imaging and depth is the best ive ever had, am very happy[][]
  10. [][] Have had them on most of the day, wow they are very good, im just getting used to the sound, i like the way the horn makes the big soundstage. I am however used to more bass, so cant wait for the Sub to arrive. Even so, they do sound excellent without a sub. And they do push my little 10 watt amplifier to quite high levels. And thankfuly they do have the subtlety for the acoustic instrumental music, as well as my Eat Static. I have now been wholly baptised into the Church of Klipsch. It makes me realise the RF-82 would have been huge in my room. Yet to use the turntable as yet, still waiting for a new stylus to arrive in a week or so. All good stuff, I think these are keepers, and for me to say that is unheard of.
  11. AHem, if i care to mention as i like a lot of world influences....Ravi Shankar, he plays the Sitar, amazingly...well it looks like a guitar[]
  12. God so many names, I suppose if we all decided which one is the best, all would disagree. In my own world, and because i grew up listening to Pink floyd, from birth, Dave Gilmour. Still going strong, part of a musically artisitic band that was popular, through many years, till now. I have got led Zep, jimmi hendrix, and i kinda feel, I cant say that it really stands out for me. I think Led Zep became icons of a way of life that far surpassed their talent. And so, they did what was expected of them, although i love the Stones they do that too. Dave gilmour plays from the heart, Jimmy paige ended up playing from his balls, to please rock addicts. Eric Clapton made terrible solo music. I better stop before i get killed, lolol ahh well, heres some others, who i do rate very highly. Jeff Beck ......original, and a pioneer Joe Satriani...... until i listened to the album of his name, i thought he couldnt do emotove, but boy he has everything eric johnson.......technically excellent, and able to change styles, and uses non bluesy scales, original Steve Vai (Actually no, too much showmanship and with the exception, *for the love of god*, its a "look at me playing fast as a cheetah on speed") BB King....blues master Pat Metheny..... exceptionally talented not only in ability, but able to compose also Narcisso Yepes......brilliant spanish callssical guitarist, Eric Clapton, (guided by roger Waters) Ed Wynne .............Ozrics frontman, excellent guitarist and as good a keyboard player Bill frisell....................... unusual jazz oddity Steve Hackett........................better than Jean michel Jarre Jean michel Jarre...............not in the same league as Steve hackett The Edge........................a tone all of his own, and underrated Kim Thayil.............those riffs Peter Green............. had he kept of the drugs, he would have made better songs then clapton did in the 70's 80's Andy Latimer.........excellent english sounding guitarist, hardly any blues scales Kirk hammit..................powerhouse core of one of the great rock bands, that were honest and pure, unlike Guns and bloody roses, although Slash was brill Stevie Ray vaughn.................paved the way for so many others Jimmy Paige............he was ok, i suppose,
  13. thought i better update this, i ahve now, gone for the one down from the 82, ..the RB-81, Im using a quality Sub with it, as my room is quite small, and the 82 would be nice, but it would be overkill. all the same i feel quite good about waht i will get.
  14. Hi Tommyboy, in the end i think i said above i bought some RB-81, from the reference range, from a german dealer and im gonna use that with a sub[]. But, the guy who i was going to get the SF3's from was an ebay dealer who posts to the UK. Manuels hifishop. He is friendly and helpful ive found. I did have to tell they poor guy, after saying i was gonna buy his SF3's that i was buying something else. But, i did say that ina few months i will need monitors for my studio, and i like big speaker for this, so i will get a pair then
  15. My freind Andy, about 21 years ago, when we were 16, he brought home a massive box with some mourdant short speakers in. about two months later a Marantz Amp and a Dual turntable appeared. Ever since then i have loved seperates and hifi. im quite lucky as i can drop in and out with upgrading. Sometimes i dont have my music playing for weeks. Sometimes, quite a lot. Obviously at the moment im looking forward to getting my new Klipsch speakers. As Ive never been satisfied with the ones, ive already owned. I realise that Im not into the british hifi sound. Its a more neutral sound, i kind of call it lifeless. I like musicality, power and drama. And its from all the many reviews, since I bought my little Trends Amp, that have led me here. with words of that same vein, being spoken about Klipsch. So after the speakers, and a new goldring Stylus, and Nordost blue heaven, inters for me CD player, and the sub, im hopefully satisfied for a few years, and will spend it on vinyl and CD's. But i always go back to my old freind Andys, and thank that he bought that setup, as we both love listening to music. I helped him buy some great Tannoy DC2's , they have a concentric driver, and a supertweeter on top of the box. They image really well. but are low sensetivity, 89db. hence the move towards K's for me. Most my family think im obsessed with hifi. little do they know, Im not that bad, yet. musics something i love, so its always worth it, either making or listening
