  1. I did the same thing a few years ago and in my opinion treating your room gives a much greater impact on sound quality than anything. The cost of some DIY panels and the ease of building them, make it a no brainer!!! Way to go muel. :emotion-21:
  2. In my mind I believe an active Xover is the way to go but my heart does not want to let my Integrated amp go. Not that I am lazy (maybe a bit) but more that I am not technically up on building passive, or adjusting active crossovers. I would like nothing better than just plugging in the tested and proven DX38 numbers and sitting back and enjoying without too much fiddling.
  3. Thanks for all the help dtel... I do agree, there probably is not a "wrong" choice. Jordan's Faital HF-200s arrived yesterday. These are very nice looking drivers, I hope they sound as good as they look. I am still not sure if I will go active or passive, but I bid on a DX38 over on FeaBay this weekend and won it. I spent more than a couple hours over the weekend looking at both dtel's MWM build and Jordan's Jub build, and I am still debating which way to go for my build. I love the KISS aspect of building the MWMs and dtel's do look fantastic with the oak finish! Jordan's Jubilees are simply a work of art and would definitely require a fair bit more work to build. If I had a definitive set of plans for a Jub bin, I might consider giving them a go.
  4. Ya, I wish Mark. My 2A3 is as simple as they come to minimize the circuitry for the best sonic performance. Just 3 inputs controlled by the DACT selector and the output is looked after by the Alps Blue Japan Vol Pot. Hopefully Triode Lab is willing to retrofit something for me. What is the distance between your MWM bins? When I measured my mock up as per above pic, I would still have approx. 44-45in between with MWMs tucked into corners.
  5. I really don't know what I am going to do next, even with all the great intel earlier in this thread. The Faital HF-200s that Jordan was selling are on the way to me so I should have decent CDs for the 402s. I was going to start another thread asking to help me narrow down a plan. As of right now my points of contention are: I do want to "somehow" keep my new 2A3 Integrated amp in the mix, so I was thinking a passive network. I have a call out to my amp builder to see if he thinks it would be a good idea to add a pre-out and a pre-in to my amp. If he does not call "blasphemy" and thinks it would not hurt the great sound I am getting, I could then think about going with an active Xover like a SP 2060, DX38, or the DC One that is list in the Garage sale right now. Add another amp for the bass and voila! I was thinking about temporarily using the Cornscals for bass. My 1st choice would be to build a pair of Jub Bins but after talking to dtel a bit about his MWMs I am leaning to building a pair of singles… a much easier build than the Jubilees. For those that have owned or heard both, how much is there to choose between the MWMs and Jubs for sonics? The MWMs will take up a larger footprint as my mock up shows, but I think they could work in my 14.5ft room?
  6. I just took them out of the box and sat the 402s on top of the Cornscals to get a perspective of how they will look. This is the 1st time I have seen these horns in person... They are definitely "Man Size".
  7. Holy horns, Batman... Now what the am I going to do...
  8. My amplifier, is a Triode Lab Integrated. http://www.triodelab.com/2a3-integrate/ With some of the options I had added, my amp is somewhere between the "S" model and their "FFX" model. It is Single Ended and puts out 4-5wpc. The way my amp is configured right now, I do not have a "tape loop" to drop an EQ unit into but will need to speak to Triode Lab to see if there is anything they can do for a work around. Triode Lab is local to me in the Toronto area and Frank, the owner only lives about 20 minutes from me, is very open to taylor his amplifiers to his customers likes and needs.
  9. For the immediate future I would like to go passive, mainly because of the Integrated amplifier (2A3 SET @ 4-5wpc). This amp is very special sounding, but would limit me being able to connect a DX38 or SP2060 and additional amplifiers. Active is something I might consider in the future, but for now would like to stick with my new 2A3. After doing a little research, it seems a 3way passive Xover would be more complex than a 2way passive and obviously more cash? For my music only listening room, I am satisfied with the bass my Cornscalas produce and really doubt I would want or need a sub. I do have a recently built F-20 in the TV room which is being driven by a Crown XLS-1500, but would be happy to leave it with the HT.
  10. Thanks jwc! As you can see, I have jumped into this without really thinking things through and decided on an exact plan. My heart kind of lit up when I came across the pair of 402, and I have yet to let my mind catch up. I should have the 402s home next week and try to figure out what might be a good fit "physically" into my basement listening room. That room is approx. 14.5' x 20' x 7'-4". I have run speakers on both the long wall and short wall, I currently have my Cornscalas on the short wall as in previous pic. If I was to go with a Jub bass and 3way with the 510/402, my room height may be awkward with that stack. If I was to go with single MWMs (2 or 4), I would do better in the height department but I am not sure if my 14.5' wide room (assuming short wall placement) would accommodate the almost 70" MWMs. Claude's Quater Pie could be an option, but from what I have read, they will not play as low as Jub or MWM? Plus I am not sure if there is a passive for the Pie with my new horns and drivers?
  11. Sorry, I left out my DAC... Mac Mini server, with John Kenny Ciúnas DAC> Triode Lab 2A3 Integrated amp> Style C Cornscalas with ALK Universal Cornscala-Wall Xovers, B&C DE85TNs. http://www.johnkenny.biz/ciunas-dac
  12. PS: Eventually, I would like to explore an active set up but I was encouraged to hear both you and Mark's feelings that a passive setup (with some sort of EQ device) will work.
  13. Well... It has been of a bit of a yard sale approach since coming across these local 402s that I happened across. I don't have a real plan, more of a dream at this point. Unfortunately the dream is fuelled by a beer budget vs. champagne budget. My current set up is… as per post #45. Mac Mini server> Triode Lab 2A3 Integrated amp> Style C Cornscalas with ALK Universal Cornscala-Wall Xovers, B&C DE85TNs. When I decided to grab the 402s that I was asking about here, I decided to push some needed $ at Jordan for the Faiatal HF-200 (16ohm) that he had listed. In talking with Mark (1101) I also ordered a pair of 510s with the suggestion that 3way might be worth exploring in a Jub set up. My integrated amp (which I am LOVING) and my current limited budget will necessitate me going passive for the time being and I will try to use my Cornscalas for bass duties until I can either find a beater pair of La Scalas (JubScalas) or better yet build a pair of Jub bass bins. Another option if the Jub bins look too much for my building abilities might be to build a pair of DBBs… ? When all these "yardsale" components arrive, for giggles I am going to plug then into my CSs by blocking off the CS mid and tweet and then place the 402/510...B&C 85s/HF-200 atop the Cornscalas, feeding them signal from the ALK Universal Cornscala-Wall Xovers. Not sure what will happen...
  14. Roy graciously has made available appropriate delay, xo points and EQ for certain end user configurations. This is limited to a few drivers with the K510 or K402 horn on a few different bass bins. This is a snap with an active digital processor. Hey jwc, I have gone ahead and purchase the 402s that I was lucky enough to come across and while I was at it sprung for a pair of 510s I do have some options now Speaking of options, I do remember reading a post were someone (maybe you) listed Roy's proven horn/driver/ bass combos they he made available the Xover set-ups. I cannot find, any idea where to read up on this?
  15. I believe those were the ones I just sold him. Man I hope all is all right and he gets everything worked out. I believe Bob Crites uses those on his 402s and the reason I purchased them. Maybe contact Bob and see what he has to say. Hey 1982, Thanks for your input. Yes, most importantly we all wish for the best for jorjen and his son! I just sent Bob an email to see what he says. It would be nice to be able to help out a guy that has given so much inspiration with his posts on this forum. jorjen still has my most favourite masterpiece that I have seen created on this forum, and this forum has had hundreds (plus) of memorable builds!
  16. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/162986-fs-pair-faital-pro-hf-200-compression-drivers/ What say you guys, Would this be a good driver to go with these 402s that I hopefully will be buying? They are 16ohm version, does that work in a 2 way Jubilee, or will I need a 8ohm CD? I can't really afford drivers right now, but if I can help out jorgen and get a good match for the 402s, I would throw the drivers on my card. Someone should also help Jorgen out and buy his VRDs!!!
  17. I hear ya jwc, mine are not getting the juice yours are but my new Triode Lab 2A3 Integrated does it's job… very well !
  18. Hey Guys... Thanks for the responses regarding pricing, and thanks for insight into some of the questions that I will be thinking about once I have purchased the 402s. Up here in Canada, it is a pretty rare opportunity to come across something like a pair of 402s. Although I am not really financially ready to build up a complete Jubilee system all at one time, I think I will spring for these horns while I have the chance. I have been really enjoying my Cornscalas that I built 3 years ago, I wish I could dream up a way to utilize the 402s with my CSs while I take my time sourcing the balance of a Jub set up.
  19. If I get the 402s, I would probably put them atop a pair of La Scalas if I can find a pair locally. Is there a Xoxev schematic available for a passive 2 way 402 / K69 + La Scala bass bin?
  20. I have a line on a pair of brand new 402s, what would be a good… and fair price? If I go for them, I would plan on probably put together a JubScala set up, at least until I felt I had the time and skill to build a pair of Jubilee bass bins.
  21. I must be 1 of those "half dozen" that are waiting to hear back. I can do a bit of soldering, but I have "a guy" for when I want to make sure things are A1.
  22. Well, who would have thought this classified post would get pinged after all this time. It did not sell 3 years ago and has had little use since then. Kasialuca, I will PM you back.
  23. What I'd be afraid of is that I saw a magazine ad just last night where they are openly being advertised, brand new with warranty, for $250, shipped, and you might could get them cheaper. If people are paying $200 plus shipping for used ones that likely have no warranty, they just don't know where to look. I tend to agree with MLO. Last year I bought a brand new one from an authorized feaBay seller for $270 shipped, with full warranty. I am not sure how recently, but the XLS series has been "updated" to the V2 (eg: XLS 1502). For critical listening, I doubt I would want to drive my speakers in full range with one of these but my XLS1500 does a nice job as a sub amp for my F-20. I would like to buy another one (not at 200 bucks) to drive my pair of Exodus Anarchy 6.5" 25hz tapped horns subs.
