  1. Hey Claude, Ya, that Shelby Lynne has some spooky good sound to it... glad you are enjoying it. If I find myself down in your neck of the woods I will make sure I try to drop in for a listen. Great work on your system... [Y]
  2. All kidding aside Claude, I hope that I have the chance to get back down to Claude's place some day and hear the new set-up. When I was down last summer to pick- up that hot, single blonde... I mean La Scalla, I got a quick demo down in the man cave and it was VERY impressive! And that was still while it was a "work in progress" Congratulations Doctor, on another successful operation.
  3. Then Claude found himself on the couch discussing his situation with a professional...
  4. "Everyone else thinks I'm nuts but I'm in good company here, eh?" I have had the pleasure to meet Claude several times and own 3 of his speakers that I was fortunate to get when he started make room in his laboratory (Man Cave) for this CRAZY project. I even have a photo of Claude from one of my visits that does give some credibility to some thinking he is nuts.
  5. Hey Peeper, That is a nice looking system with some great people behind your upgrades. After looking at you pics, I realize it might be difficult to make it work in your room but if you could find a way to try your Forte IIs on the long wall it might be worth trying. I was reasonably happy with the way my system was sounding, but then I tried my speakers on the long wall. What I thought sounded pretty good on the short wall has been greatly surpassed with the sound on the long wall. See my thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/111977.aspx Now my imaging is much better, the sound stage is huge. With the new ratio, the music fills the whole wall and at times it seems to be actually wider than the room. Now when playing Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls", it seems a little wider than I remembered.[] My brother was over at Xmas and after listening for a bit, he asked how I was driving the center La Scalla. I informed him that it was just the 2 corner speakers playing and he couldn't believe it. The vocals usually play close to centre and then all the accompanying instruments spread out along the rest of the wall and maybe a bit beyond. Positioning is the best (and most affordable) upgrade I have come across, try a couple of radical changes and then fine tune the position after you hear something that is a noticeable change for the better.
  6. I made a few changes this year, probably more than I could justify to the financial planner: - added a pair of Heresy IIs, in place of a pair Paradigm outdoor speakers for rears in the HT. - swapped out a Definitive Technology CLR for a single La Scalla for centre channel duties. - moved a Denon DVD player to strictly movie playback and added a Jolida JD-100A for music playback. - replace a Jolida JD-300B integrated with a JM Peach II and a pair of Welborne DRD 45 amps. BUT BY FAR the best gear change I did was change the location of my KHorns, from the short wall, to the long wall. As much as I love the new electronics (specially the Welbornes), moving the speakers to the long wall and having them 20' apart vs. 15' by far made the biggest improvement to the way my system sounds!
  7. And new Left channel, with the new wall... Still need to add some trim at top of new wall and ceiling and hang a picture.
  8. Well, it took a little longer than expected... I should know better than to start a project at this time of year. Here is the new right side of the room...
  9. I agree, they will not sound bad at all on the short wall. What got me thinking about moving to the long wall was when I got my "new to me" JM Peach pre I was fine tuning the balance gains. I would make a quick adjustment and step back to about the middle of the room instead of going all the way back to my main listening spot, listen, go make another gain adjustment...did this a few times to get the balance and gain dialed in. While in the middle of the room, I noticed that everything sounded much better in this location. This prompted me to look a little closer at the geometry of the room and thought why not drag one of the KHorns to the other corner and see how it sounds. When you do move the horns to the other room, let us know what you think / hear. I would be interested to see if you get the same results as I did... it pleasantly [] me.
  10. pythagore, The Khorns look very nice in your room. It looks like from your pics that the speakers are on your short wall, I realize that this may be the better configuration for HT but you should see if there is any chance that you can move things around so that you get the KHorns on the long wall. My room is 15' x 20' and I up until last week had my speakers on the 15' wall. This worked very well for HT and not bad for 2 channel but I tried the KHorns on the 20' wall and was shocked at how much better things sounded. See my thread for my situation: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/111977.aspx?PageIndex=1 I have everything done except for a bit of trim (chair rail, baseboard, etc) and will be posting a couple of pics when I get home from work tonight. I don't know if this would be the best for you, but I am glad I tried it. Just a thought.
  11. Hey fini, Although the seller is new to Canuck Audio Mart, he seems to be on the up and up, he even offered have prospective buyers come by in person to look and negotiate. I am not sure how the P-300 rates sonically, but it does have some historical significance as it is the very first production model from Accuphase. It would be neat to open up the box after close to 35 years... I think the production run was 1973-1977.
  12. Just saw this classified on CAM: http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/108509-new_in_box_vintage_accuphase_pioneer_nakamichi_etc/ I wouldn't mind having the ACCUPHASE POWER AMP P-300. Any idea what price this stuff might fetch?
  13. Congrats pythagore, Too bad for you they are not the lacquer finish, as everybody knows that lacquer ones sound a way better. Because I am a nice guy and would like you to have the best sound, I would be willing to take your new inferior oilers off your hands and give you my sonically superior lacquer Khorns. [6] Way to go [Y]
  14. Hi pythagore, I saw those ones, they do look nice. This seller seems to be selling a lot of gear in the last week or so, a buddy at work inquired about a Copland 505 amp that Paul was selling last week. I have a pair of '75 K-B-WL Klipschorns that I bought here from a fellow forum member and I paid $2000 usd, delivered from Detroit to my place in the GTA. I would think the $2500 cnd price is not out of the ballpark, his listing price at $2800 is starting to get a little on the high side. Paul's look to be in a bit better condition than mine are and they are an oiled finish [], which I would have paid a little more to get if I could have. I had Corns prier to the Khorns and I would agree that the sound is not necessarily better, different, for sure. Wish I had kept my Cornwalls, along with the Klipschorns. I think you will enjoy them, I know I am.
  15. tommyboy, You are right, it is amazing what a huge difference this has made. I am excited all, over again with these speakers! I was able to get the drywall up, mudded, and sanded. Hopefully I will get the wall primed tonight after work.
  16. Doctor, With the little bit of listening that I have done so far, things are sounding pretty good with the couch up against the rear wall. I am sure the sound will change again (hopefully better again), once I have the new wall dry-walled and finished. Sitting in this position, the sound stage seems at least twice as wide as what it was on the 15 foot wall. In the old set-up, the rear channel effects were very good with the Heresys being 3 or 4 feet behind the main couch. The rear channels for HT are definitely going to suffer, but for the 10 percent of the time that we watch movies will be overshadowed by the huge improvement that I am now getting in stereo music. Not sure if I will get everything finished this weekend but I will at least have the drywall hung, that will let me hear how things will be sounding.
  17. This is very sad news. oldbuckster was one of the very 1st members to welcome me to the forum and as a matter of fact is the one who got me officially into this "Madness". When I was considering the Cornwall as a speaker that I would like to try, Rob pointed me toward Tuned4life and highly recommended that I buy Doug's Corns. Rob was right on the mark and subsequently, I was lucky enough to get help from OB many more time over the last year and a half. Thank you Rob, RIP.
  18. The sweet spot... it will be much sweeter once the job is done and the room is put back together:
  19. Well... I got side tracked yesterday watching 3 blow out games and didn't get much done other than clean up a little and take a few pictures to show my "lack" of progress. Still to do, hang the drywall, mud, sand, paint, stain trim, install trim. I will what to relocate my dedicated AC lines to the long wall for the electronics... not looking forward to working with that 10/2 Romex again.
  20. Hey MechMan, If it is from Scarberia, you should probably give that one to me and try and find another one that has not played so much heavy metal... [] PM sent
  21. Congrats Rick, Where you able to find the 2505 locally or did you have to have it shipped? I am in the process of moving my room around right now, once the dust settles down with that, I was thinking about adding another type of amplifier to coexist with the DRD 45s that I am really liking. I would love a pair of used VRDs but they don't surface that often, maybe something like your MC-2505 might be an interesting higher powered option... you seem to be loving it.
  22. Hey Guys, Thanks very much for passing on your experiences. Yesterday, I got up to discover about 5-6 inches of snow and since we are a little slow this week at work I decided to take a "snow day". First thing up was cutting an old butcher block into a couple of 12.5" x 16" amp stands for the new to me, DRD 45s. Next was drag my right Khorn to the diagonal corner to make it the left speaker on the long wall. I slid it into the false corner and moved the electronics to the centre of the long wall and fired it all up. WOW, what a difference! You guys are absolutely right about there being much better detail and the sound on the long front wall is HUGE. I am not sure if I fiddled a bit with the left and right gain on the JM Peach but the sound as well as being bigger and more open, seems to be louder at a same spot on the volume control. Everything is just bigger and better, so much so, that off to Home Depot I went and got some lumber to build the wall to separate the front and back of the basement room. I got the wall framed and erected and then moved the rest of the furnishing around a bit to get an idea of how things will look and sound... a little stiff this morning. I may have to shorten the wall to 8 feet from 9 feet to allow for a better opening into the front part of the room. I have not moved the old rear projection TV yet, but Bill, read my mind about mounting a nice flat screen on the wall above the La Scala, right side up... Maybe when I move the TV I will accidentally, on purpose, tip it over and break it. Honey, I don't know how that could have happened [*-)] but maybe we should got to Best Buy and have a look around. I think you guys are also correct about the sweet spot may be better if I move the couch off the back wall a bit, I will have to play with that location after I get the room back together. I will maybe snap a couple of pics when I get home tonight to show what stage I am at. Don, I wish I had access to another Welborne DRD 45 to try the La Scala as a centre for the 2 channel music. 1st impressions are that I am getting a pretty good centre stage, but it is something that I would like to look into.
