^^^^ This, I have read it over and over again many times on this forum by those who have tried it.

It is best not to skimp on the DSP.

The buck seems to stop at the Xilica.

    Electronics.thumb.jpg.ac909306d5f4a14dd7e4d4dfe65995f1.jpg

    My active set up:

    Preamp is a Wyred 4 Sound, STP-SE.

The W4S connects via XLRs to my DSP Crossover which is a Xilica, XP-4080.
Great Xover which looks after crossover points and slopes, EQ, Time Delays, and Gains.

The Xilica sends the Hi frequency to the Triode Labs tube amp, 2A3 SET at about 3.5-4wpc.
More than enough power for the big horn and it’s 2 inch K-691 compression drivers.
Bass frequency goes to the Classe, CA-150 to power the FH-1s that have a single 15in Crites cast woofer in each bin.
Finally the XP-4080 feeds a mono signal to a Crown XLS 1500 that powers 1: F20 tapped horn Subwoofer and 1: TubaHT Subwoofer, which are on opposite sides of the room.

Note: the small horn and top hat that the big 402s are sitting on are currently sitting idle and not in use.
When I initially refurbished the Peavey bins I built the matching Walnut top hats to house the Klipsch K-510 horns
that have the Faital HF-200 CDs on them.
This set up sounded very good, but remembering how my previous speakers sounded (DIY, Klipsch Jubilee), I eventually
    bought another pair of K-402s.
    Size does matter!

But, as I mentioned earlier, most would be content with the K-510s on top.

It only would become obvious how the K-402 is better when A/B'ing the 2 horns, which I can do easily by switching the Hi frequency signal from one to the other and then switch the Xilica settings that I have for each Horn/CD combo.

As for those different setting, I must again thank Chris for his expertise in interpreting my REW sweeps, and then

coming up with the settings for my XP-4080!  👏👏

  2. Hey Claude,

    "built by a Canadian friend

Even thought the Bills won this aft, I was still feeling a little blue... for what ever reason.

The above quote made me feel better!!!

    The felling is mutual.

And thanks for the heads up Randy.

  3. For the OP to give his current speaker system a chance, I feel he needs to find something like a XP-4080, a UMIK-1, and a free copy of REW (Room EQ Wizzard).

Then let the above hardware software do their magic... then let your ears get involved.

After listening to things properly dialled in, you can then decide if your current horns and drivers are giving you what you are after.

Meanwhile Coytee has given you a great invitation to hear his "properly dialled in system".

I am sure a few hours in the car will make you a believer!

  4. I 100% agree with Tom, to get your current set-up to sound it's best, you really need to get a decent DSP crossover (I use a Xilica, XP-4080)

and dial everything in with 4 channels of amplification.

I am not sure what and how close your "knock-off K-510"s are to the real thing but the Klipsch K-510 is a very good horn.

I was running K-510 with my Faital HF-200 CD on top of my refurbished Peavey FH-1s and was getting very nice results.

    Now I currently run K-402s with K-691s.

Yes the big 402s are better, but a cannot imagine most people would not be very happy with K-510s!

  5. They do not compare!

Several years ago I built a pair of Jub-Like clones, with the Faital HF-200 CDs on the 402s.

I had never heard a pair of Jubs and this build was a TON of work, but they did turn out nice... sounding and looking!

Regrettably I sold them (momentary lack of reasoning) and now I have redone my system around a pair of beefed up Peavey FH-200 bins

    and another pair of 402s.

Both system being directed by a Xilica XP-4080.

I have owned every Heritage Klipsch (including KHorns) with the exception of the Belle and can say without a shadow of a doubt that the Jubilee (K-402)

is they VERY best Klipsch system there is.

I thought my previous beloved KEF 107s were great (which they were) but I do love what I am listening to as I type this!!!

These are not mine, but I have dealt with the seller and he is a VERY good guy with tons of knowledge in Klipsch, and HiFi in general.

For anybody in the GTA or southwestern Ontario, they should grab these, they do not come up very often on the market.

For anyone south of the border, they should also be attractive, when you factor in the US / Canada exchange rate.

    Marvel,

I am not so sure Townes ever played WFLB's ever that fast, but I LOVE this version.

I've never gotten any brand of gas grill to go more than 6 or 7 years here.  Looking at the longevity that some have gotten im thinking my bad luck is mostly due to the constant 90%+ humidity we have here.  Its 99% here now as i type.

Our Napoleon Prestige sees all 4 seasons up here and is used several times a week, all year round.

From hot muggy summers to sub zero snowy winters.

It has not been covered since it was brand new and the wind sent it dancing somewhere across the neighborhood. 😳

I wish it would die, so I can go and buy one of the new versions with all the bells and whistles.

I love all the lighting on the new ones!

  9. I have only had two Gas Grills in my 40 years of home ownership.

First was a Broil Master (propane)... was a very good grill that lasted me about a 15 years before

I got tired of changing out the burners ever few years.

I tried the original cast iron burners as well as the stainless steal burners.

Then we replace it with a Napoleon grill (natural gas).

    https://www.napoleon.com/en/ca/barbecues/products/gas-grills

This grill is still going strong, with only a starter replaced about 5 years ago.

Not sure of Napoleon's availability State side, but if you can find a retailer near by I strongly recommend giving them a look!

Absolutely LOVE them, but never heard the 402's.

Not a joke.  It is what I have heard.

    Emile,

I have heard them and thanks to Chris's Xilica settings, I can flick easily between the 2way 402 and the 2way 510.

The 510s are no joke, but the 402s need to be heard to really understand what they do.

It is just that the 402s are the punchline!!!

Uh.  I wanna hear more about the difference that made.  I read good stuff on that.

    jc

That's a tough one to compare as it has been 6 or so years since adding the Regen, initially to the JKenny,  Ciúnas DAC USB DAC,

and then very briefly to a Chord Hugo DAC before settling on my current Musical Paradise MP-D2 DAC.

I would never claim to have a Golden Ear, but I am very happy with the Regen/MP-D2 combo.

It looks like the OG Regen has been replaced by the ISO Regen.

    https://uptoneaudio.com/products/iso-regen

At only $325 for a brand new one, or maybe finding a used one at a discount... it's not a huge chunk of change to give it a try.

Experimenting with different music players might also be worth while, most have free trial periods.

  12. I have been running my Mac Mini server for about 8 years or so now and I have always toyed with getting an audiophile USB cable but was  sure if they justify the price.

I  just run a decent computer grade USB cable (Gold Plated Belkin) out of my Mini into a Uptone Regen which is connected directly to the

back of my Musical Paradise MP-D2 DAC.

I have exclusively used Audirvana Plus as my music player on the Mac Mini.

I did try a couple other players but A Plus seemed to be my preference on the Mac, not sure if it would work as well with your PC?

I have been very happy with this set up and have had many compliments on how the Mini / MP-D2 play music.

  13. Congrats from me as well Rich.

I am running the same system, but actively (XP-4080) and with K-691 and can strongly echo Rich's description on how this set up can sound.

Prior to this I had my DIY Tigerwood Jub-likes and can say that the Peavey/402 combo is not a huge distance behind the Jubilee.

And also congrats to the new owner, who I am sure will be very happy!!!

Thanks to carlthess40, will give me 7 HIIs in my new system, along with a couple of new Klipsch SW, 86” LG4K, Denon 4700 AVR, & an AudioSource AMP100VS to run the last pair of kg3, Walnut Oiled.

1980 La Scalas remain from Front L&R, along with a single HII, circa 1991, Flat Black...

My name is Sancho Panza, and I am a Klipschaholic. 😉

    Congrats on the them speaks!

The crossover may not be completely fixed, or some part of the crossover may resonate on that particular frequency.

After I had recapped my H1s, this is what happened to me, I was sloppy when putting the crossovers back. Got the problem solved when I fixated the crossover.

I would bet that it is like MM said, loose crossover board or one of the components on the board.

Years ago I had a PMC speaker with a similar symptom and we tracked it down to a capacitor that was loose on the Xover.

The really strange thing about this... lately all the buzz has been on the new Heresy IVs. 🤨

  16. Parts Express says that the UM18-22 18" Ultimax can be used for both sealed and vented enclosures.

Not the 18in, but for the 15in, Bill Fitzmaurice recommends it as the premium driver for his 24 inch Tuba...

"The RSS 390-HF-4 lacks a gasket on the front of the frame, so if you order it get speaker gasket tape as well.
An inexpensive choice is the Dayton DCS 385-4, a premium driver is the Ultimax 15."

I was going to go with the Ultimax 15 for the empty Tuba TH that I just bought, but they are out of stock, as was the RSS 390-HF.
Solen had one RSS 390-HF in stock, so I went with it.

  17. I should have also suggested CDT Audio.

CDT is what I went with in my old Civic back in 2006, my front doors had 6.75in for the OEM front for speakers

so I replaced them with ES-062 Braxial.

    https://www.cdtaudio.com/braxials/braxials/es062brax.php

These were a very nice sounding speaker!

After looking closer at the 2005 Camry I see that it did use 6x9s in the front doors, this could be a very nice drop in replacement...
