  1. I got my room treatments from Auralex. They have bass traps, absorption, diffusion, etc. http://www.auralex.com/products.asp Ceiling is no longer color red - it looked awful... I repainted it with dark-gold rusty color. I fabricated a 24x48 plywood and used my car jack to hold the foams in place while the glue dries up
  2. Great idea. I have a 1TB(mirrored) NAS for my iTunes music and movies(HD). My blu-ray player has a 10/100 net port and will try hook it up and see if the quality is good. I'm afraid that with only 10/100, HD quality maybe degraded but will soon find out.
  3. It's not even finished yet and it's already looking good larbo13! I hope you don't mind me saying this but when you have everything enclosed, go into the most middle part of the room and clap your hand as hard as you can and listen for reverb or echos. You may need a few wall treatment. Otherwise, man, it looks awesome.
  4. Keep going. You're almost there. It took me a year to build mine. The year includes every weekend, summer break, and some vacations. I kept the project small and worked in phases; eg, carpentry work, wiring(electrical and low voltage), wall, ceiling, flooring, painting, etc so that each time I finished one phase, I know I'm getting closer to the end result. I did everything myself(no relative close by to help), except for laying down the carpet - I had someone come in to do it for me. The most important part of the project is the planning and many drawings that helped guide me. I can't wait to see your HT and the final results!
  5. You're absolutely right. After recalibrating the speakers, I set THX to auto(I always had it on THX Movie or Cinema) and loaded Act of Valor blu-ray. Wow, the seperation is just beautiful. I set my ear close to the La Scala and I could hear no trace of vocal output at -20dB. It's totally new experience for me with the RC-64 and new settings.
  6. Half-way my HT build process, I immediately put a warning sign, though less threathening but they get the point. Notice, the two RF-3II in the pic. My original fronts since HT built 5yrs ago. Now, I'll be putting these up for sale along withe RC-3II to get me RS-5/6 II and replace the RS-3II Since I just got the RC-64, cash is 0 and WAF for new surrounds is like -10.
  7. Don't remember the color sample name but it's from HD and it's a dark hunter-green color.
  8. Thanks mustang. I've updated my blu-ray's firmware several times already but none had improved the load times. It's really annoying. If anyone knows of a speedy blu-ray player, please share - maybe I'd be interested...
  9. For me, I see my RS-42 as my bottleneck. This is a nice little gem but I'd like something bigger to "match" the others. Then replace my RS-3II to match. I know the RS-3II is older but it does its job pretty well up on that wall. And then my Pioneer Elite BDP-94HD blu-ray player. It's an awesome player but it's just darn way too slow when loading blu-ray movies.
  10. Thanks derrickdj. I may need to recalibrate my fronts, center, and avr again. Then test the thx modes and see which one sounds best. I sometimes see crites crossover mention in the forum but never really investigate it. Maybe something to look at for future upgrades.
  11. Finally finished the "remodeling" and have the rc-64 in its new home. Scooby just can't stop staring at it. There is a very noticeable difference between the rc-3ii and rc-64 in terms of vocal output and efficiency. On rc-64, I set my volume level to -23 and I never have to touch it again. With the rc-3ii, to hear the same output, I had to set volume level to -18 and sometimes I still have to adjust volume during in-movie. rc-64 installed: watching enders game: Is there anyway to reduce the amount of vocal output coming from the La Scala? Is this plausible and is it even a good idea? Just trying to find out if anyone has done this already; new xover maybe?
  12. Wait, did I read you right... "three(3) RC-64 for center"? That is sick!
  13. Yup. I used Monster XP CL3 cables all around.
  14. That's heresy talk derrickdj. It's why we crave the most powerful amp, avr, and speakers in the world so that we can enjoy blowing our heads off!
  15. Ok, thanks for the input. Can you provide a bit more detail or background about your suggestion? I'm sure Klipsch didn't put dual poles for bi-amp or bi-wire just for looks... In a way, they did. Some people think bi-wiring makes a difference, so Klipsch did not want those buyers to dismiss their speakers because they didn't have the option to bi-wire. It's just an added feature to improve saleability. One properly-sized speaker cable will sound just as good as two, and cost less. Since you're using a separate power amp for your front left and right channels, I assume you're taking the signal from your receiver's front left and right Pre outs. That doesn't mean the matching speaker terminals on the receiver are still powered. They might or might not be. It appears that you may be mixing up bi-wiring and "fool's bi-amping", which is using different channels of an AVR to mimic using separate external power amp channels. That does not make any improvement in the sound. It just costs more for the extra cables. Yes, I'm using the pre-outs. I was thinking this through and I think I agree with you about the front L/R speaker terminals on the receiver. I'm not going to mess with it. I'm just trying to find out if anyone had any experience doing this and if it's worth the effort. I'm doing a demo on my existing HT to provide space for my RC-64 and don't want to recable again. Attached couple of pics just to show what I'm up to and why all these questions. That empty hole is where I have the RC-3II and I'm resizing it for the RC-64. I was looking for a reason to do bi-wiring and cable it now while I have the opening to do so rather that later. But looks like I won't be running additional cable afterall. I hope to have it completed in the next couple of days. Thanks for the input and suggestions.
  16. Bi-wiring a speaker, if it's capable, is to provide it seperate power to the hi and lo frequencies from a single amplified source;eg receiver. Bi-amping is providing same function except using two seperate amplified sources; eg, two seperate amplifiers. Wiring the speaker to amp/receiver are slightly different. My understanding is that if you give seperate power to the low and hi frequencies, the speaker can put out more SPL and provide better dynamic ranges. I'm just looking at my options before I put everything back. Don't want to recable again if I can avoid it.

  18. Hello all. So I recently bought the RC-64 and have come to a point where I need to make another configuration decision while re-architecting my center channel space; eg, hole still open for upgrade. So, the RC-64 has a 99dB sensitivity which provides 117dB@64watt or 120dB@128watt. My receiver has 110watt/channel(7ch) enough to power the center speaker to put out 117-120dB range. My receiver is capable of bi-wiring the front speakers, using front and rear-surrounds, but it does not say about the center. Since I'm using a dedicated 50watt amp for my front La Scalas, can I still use the freed front left and right channels to power/bi-wire my center? Thoughts and suggestion is much appreciated. Thanks! jav
  19. Should have stopped at my place and heard what an RF-7 custom center sounds like. Probably woulda taken back that RC-64. In all honesty, I was about 10 minutes from that guy. Yes, it's always nice to have an audio demo for comparison. But then again, you have RF-7 for a beastly center and 4xRC-7 for side-surrounds so I wouldn't consider that a fair comparison to a single RC-64... I have the RC-3II, would not compare it to an RC-7, and compared it against the RC-64 playing Elvis Costello at -18dB. I will say that 4 speakers is better than 2; that is, the RC-64 reproduced the vocals much more pronounced, cleaner, and produced much better dynamics. The RC-3II seems to be more constrained; the audio from the RC-3II sound as if the person is singing with nose pinched and the speaker itself, sounds walled-in or silod, or narrow, can't realy express this in words.. Honestly, I thought I was fully satisfied with my RC-3II until I heard the RC-64 - now, I know better.
  20. Sorry, the one in Iowa is gone; it's mine now... On Saturday morning, I took that 4-hour journey from St. Louis to Cedar Rapids to pick it up. Couldn't find an RC-7 so opted for an RC-64 instead and after testing it last night I believe I love the RC-64 more without even hearing the RC-7.. littleone, keep looking, something will turn out for you...and you're not alone, members are also looking out for you... good luck jav
  21. Hi Tim. In my search for RC-7 to replace my RC-3II, I came across an RC-64 for $500. It's listed in CL at SW Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I'm also in STL and would have taken that 4-hour drive to pick it up had he taken my offer. Understandingly enough, he won't go lower than $500. If you're willing to pay $500 and drive 8-hours(round-trip), I think it's a great buy. Here's the link and good luck: http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/ele/4312308859.html
  22. Love those coppers! Would love to hear Apocalypto, Gladiator, and Serenity with your setup. Enjoy your new HT!
  23. Very nice indeed. Great looking sets.
  24. Thank you Mongo171! I received the emblem today. I've glued it and it looks perfect! I appreciate your kindess and generosity.
