  1. PC, Office 2000 Pro. Just did upgrade from 6.0 to 7.0 Adobe.... no cigar! Zip file seemed OK, but might be my McAfee. Sometimes e-mail attach. come through empty. Files?

Are you using a Mac or a PC, should open fine on a PC. The Excel is 2003, if you are running an older version I could down rev the file for you. The pdf opens fine with Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 on my PC. If you are having trouble with the Zip file I could email them to you. Let me know if I can help.

    *Sent you an e-mail!

    Thanks for assist!

  2. have you talked with them and asked them if they would rather lose a customer than offer you a deal on a package???...sometimes that works for someone who actually is in the customer service business but not for those who "read off the card."...good luck.

    Bill

A good idea to try as you are worth $ to them. Not convenient depending on location, but a good face to face can sometime do the trick.

Another thing, if you go satellite they will probably lose you forever! They do not like it that they are not always the only game in town!

  3. A lot of subtle nuances to be found in this Renaissance music:http://www.blackmoresnight.com/

Had been wondering what Richie had been up to, when along came a PBS special, awhile back, raising funds around this music.

Doesn't hurt that a hard core Deep Purple fan might find this interesting! Same could be said about Richie finding Candice Night a super-hottie![6]

Old castle with a very little electric Blackmore thrown in the mix.

  4. Sorry, was posting at same time! Since you mentioned the others in the picture, then this should be Brian Jones. Hair is almost unmistakable but the depiction of the face throws me somewhat.

Would be interesting how the others are depicted!

  5. There is an "anti-sag" device built into the Quintet III. Just in front of the stem that connects the speaker to the base, there is a chrome pin that can be raised or lowered so that it contacts the under side of the speaker when it's in the proper position. So, loosen the 3 bolts, put the speaker in the position you want, tighten the 3 bolts and finally, unscrew the chrome pin so it contacts the bottom of the satellite. Presto! No more sleepy speakers.

Klipsch does have a solution builtin to accomodate! Please disregard my fixit! LOL! Maybe they got it sorted out!

    Thanks!

  6. James is right

If you EVER need to call them, just sit down & expect it to take no less than 15 minutes for the most simple of issues AND expect to hang up generally irritated at best and flaming angry being the more typical.

The only reason I deal with that crap (and it IS a pile of crap) is the NFL ticket.

Their customer service motto seems to be "how can I not help you & otherwise irritate you today??"

    *GENERALLY SPEAKING:

Yes DISH NETWORK will have the overall better "customer service experience" and can actually resolve more issues regarding harware/software than DirecTv over the phone. Dish , technically speaking is a more detailed platform from top to bottom, which gives one more "user friendly" flexibility, on the receiving end, from the more advanced "bells and whistles" aspect of the indoor equipment.Future upgrades can be had via satellite downloads, thereby postponing, at some point the need for an equipment upgrade. Dish is usually the more aggressive player(of the 2) and usually drives advances, and can never be counted out in this battle of, 1 ups-manship.Can recommend their HD DVR.

DirecTv, while first out of the gate, has not had the luxury of resting upon their laurels, as Dish has been the complete & constant competitor(some would say adversary) from the get-go. Direct's customer service has actually improved(?) over the last few years. Frustration can be had readily, in the Direct CSR's lack (some say basics) of knowing their system, and the ability to resolve customer issues over the phone. When technical support personnel are otherwise occupied, a typical Dish CSR can often time resolve reception/technical problems. Direct's new *Slimline dish for HD/Local(Ku,Ka) is a much improved and stable design than their initial attempt. DirecTv, with competition in the marketplace, has had to keep up with the consumer experience, albeit at an added cost, in not totally just "getting it."

OVERALL: Both Direct or Dish deliver, but it is up to the consumer to decide after educating themselves on the programming, equipment, and the fine print of the contracts, which system is the best for them. Both systems can and typically do offer years of trouble free service. It is when the chips are down, that all the subtleties between the 2 can become all too apparent.

CONCLUSION: Enter VOOM! If this service had survived, it would be driving the market for HD programming, as initially they were able to provide 35 channels of HD content. Without VOOM, the attention was slow on the uptake to shoot for the stars, in giving all those unused HDTV's a job to do.

DISCLOSURE: I have no ties or affiliations with either service provider presently. Opinions offered are my own observations, and are formed solely for the purpose of trying to convey my own opinions. That in mind, I readily concede that generally speaking, there are without any doubt whatsoever, many fine and intricate **exceptions.** Tradeoff's do rule here so do your homework, and welcome to the "Wonderful World of Satellite"!

  7. Hello and Welcome!

First thing comes to me is with metal to metal contact would be *Loctite For other applications a 2 part adhesive, or super glue.

Loctite dries quickly enough! Not familiar with the mount, but this adhesive will work on more than screws(metal) and screws I would think are not backing off during the night.

Hope this helps you to find the real solution. Others here will be along more familiar with your design.

  8. No, I think they are still there, but in most systems (cable and satellite) you must subscribe to one of the 'larger' packges to get the few channels that are attractive. ~$75 per month is a bit much to justify just a few channels. A good portion of tht seems to go further (with a few tradeoffs admittedly) into picking up the media. I sure wish the service providers woud offer an al carte menu.

*OK, was wondering about their availability to you. Certainly congress is wanting the market to sort out the pick and choose (alacarte) options with DBS satellite, which while not as flexible as the older C-band was, is starting to make some headway?!

I guess its my way of rebelling after having worked (and refining) in Viacom engineering in the 80's, and on the Oak based addressable data and video encryption systems that were the precursor for DBS (direct broadcast satellite) systems and subsequently showing Zenith how the system worked and the refinements discovered tht led to their marketing their sinewave sync suppression and baseband encryption industry standard ZTac series converter... s well as working with the first fully implimented 2-way capable braodband network nd pioneering the first pay-per-view (Leonard Hearns fight) event...(nd remembering MTV with ll of the burning buildings nd 'dead air segments' waiting to be filled with promo and commercial spots... for after getting off the road. Hey, someone had to break the 40 bit proprietary encryption schema that subsequently led Videocypher to adopt DES encryption. But those were the fun and wild days of a new technlogy...

    * Interesting career, to me! Guessing now that that you may be referring to the Oak *Orion encrytion system. It was my 1st view into the world of audio/video scrambling(loose). Some in this country made use of the technolgy to access Canadian/Adult programming, as the spillover from Anik was there for the subscribing albeit illegally. MaComm, and then GI were indeed up against it out of the gate with the VCII. Relatively easy fix to get at the video(video invert). Certainly the consumer learned alot about the problem having to go with the VCII+ module. VC1 not available(military)to the public called for a system like the Digicipher to begin with, as video compression was upon us.

Instead, I choose to invest in the DVDs to the degree that they are available. Especially when I already have the SG1 series, WildWildWest, Have Gun Will Travel, Ray Bradbury, Tales from the Crypt, Andy Griffith, and so many other series, not to mention classic movies, already on DVD...

    * Good investment indeed! I am an out of the closet videophile seeking refuge in an audiophile forum.

But the thought of having 50+ Spanish channels at my disposal is mighty tempting....WinkTongue TiedConfused (over the top and, if possible, even more ridiculous that their English counterparts... but one has to admit, the women are hot!)Wink

    Si, Caliente!

  9. Seriously, though, there's some good old films on Turner Classic Movies, stuff I'd long heard of, but never had a chance to see, plus those old films don't need any kind of hi-res monitor to see at their best, as best was back then.

***Their best was back then direct from satellite. And if your system was 3dB above threshold you were all set at "Broadcast Quality."

Ironically enough, that and American Movie Classics are the channels I miss most, as I love the older movies where a story was foremost nd they did not depend solely on CGI or specialFX.

I mean, just the scene in The Big Sleep where Dorothy Malone 'drops' and renders the Acme Bookstore 'closed' has to be one of the most sensually suggestive, yet utterly innocent, scenes ever filmed... And the dialogue (and interplay) doesn't get better than Bringing Up Baby. But of course that is but a tip of the iceberg! And one wonders just what the heck is impeding the release of The African Queen on DVD...(I just hope its not a problem with the master)...

But you are right. If you need color you have it in spades (eg The Adventures of Robin Hood), and black and white is used with incredible sense of purpose.

There are a few other channels worth receiving (SciFi, History, A&E, Discovery, Military, etc.), but still...

But...I gotta run, TMZ is coming on and I need to keep up with Britny...heck, someone has to keep up with where she is at, as she certainly can't! Can you imgine the depth and scope of the conversation between her and Jessica Simpson as they ponder the concept of tuna fish and sea chickens...not to mention my man R Kelly ...Ick!Tongue Tied

    Stick out tongue

*Did those channels drop off of satellite (TMC,AMC)??? I know I am "The Man Wo Fell To Earth" but.....

  10. Friend downsized from the 65' Toshiba DLP...and now has a Sony 50' LCD...which accomodates his viewing area better. I'll see for myself on the 25th.

Have been waiting for the first film to do justice to Tolkiens' Hobbit... since early 70's! Maybe now they will start the process.

After the trilogy might as well do *Silmarillion, which I recently am discovering.

  12. Doc,

You ever eaten bear? If is very fatty and greasy, at least mine was, and except for a few choice cuts they suggested for jerky and sausage, the rest got donated to the local game meat for the poor program. You would have to really have to hide the taste with something, and I love just about every type of wild game there is. A lot is going to depend on what they eat too, so it will very from place to place.

    Travis

Never eaten bear, but some old-timers I used to go hunting with said that bear paws were a treat because they were muscular. I have a recipe in an old cookbook for fixing them.

*Some of them old cookbooks have some interesting recipes for sure like Hard Sauce.

When I told my nephew I would take him barr hunting his eyes got big. Bar hunting now, I've done that!

  13. All is good info so thanks for the input.

I think what it boils down to is if I want an LCD, I'm going to watch the Samsung LN-T5251f and wait for it to come into my price range (Butterfly Photo seems to be dropping their price fast) and if I want a Plasma, I'd love the Pioneer PDP-5010fd but it's way out of my price range. It's a great picture and loaded with extras. The next plasma choice would be one of the Panasonics which also have a great picture but not as many extras but currently have great prices.

Oddly enough (and it baffles me) my wife is actually pushing harder than I am to get the flat screen....now (what a shame). I'm trying to hold her off to see which TV drops into our price range between Christmas and Superbowl and then we'll pull the trigger.

Circuit City may be the place! Good Fortune!

    * 1 answer to DLP/LCD lamps, just buy the bulb. http://www.bulbsolutions.com/Toshiba_TBL4_LMP_Replacement_Lamp_p/tbl4-lmp.htm

  14. Timely post!

If you have a budget of $2500, why would you settle for something as little as a 50-52"?? Is your room very small?

Why not something bigger?? In todays market.........you can get a 73" 1080p DLP for only $3,000!! A 65" can be owned for only $2,000!!

My 2 cents....skip the little stuff and buy something big.

    * A friend has a new 65 Dlp Toshiba for less than 2k at Circuit City. Problems are optimum distance for watching is 10 foot 14 ideal but friend did not tell and sales did not ask, room size. Now wanting to keep TV he is worried about having to replace the $239 Radiance 150 lamp every 2 years, and afraid of LCD because he feels that it is like a disposable lighter.

**What to do? The lamp is rated at 6,000 hours life expectancy??? Likes the Samsung also!

  15. NooB section still good for this discovery!

I was rehooking up wires from the DVD after cleaning over the weekend, and instead of hooking up to speaker inputs on a PanicSonic 2000, I accidentally hooked the L/R to the ceramic input of the phono on the stereo receiver, right beside the magnetic phono L/R input. I cut it on and BS sounded different, better with more lowend on the bass/drums and more punch, but had to turn up the volume all the way to begin to get to my listening level. Thought...hummmm what had I done. So now I go back and unhook the phono cables from the magnetic side and input my wires. Had left the volume up alot and when cut back on, it was clipping. So cut off quickly and rehooked back to ceramic input and left the phono wires from turntable unconnected.

Viola... now my volume is up 3/4 at my listening level with my loudness boost lever off and hearing the real BS. Thought somethings were missing with the musuc but just attributed it to the panicsonic, Still going to do the duct thing (experiment) but if bass gets more intense, I may not can take it, as the mis-tuned on purpose with the x-overs must be the case,[H] as one hell of a punch!!!!!

So much for not knowing what I"m doing. Don't know why but maybe bypassed a filter. This is the best they have sounded, with all the range of instrumentation in the 6+ years I've had the Chorus 1's. Now to see how the Cornwall 2 compare.

May as well listen to Beck/Ola again to see what I missed (CD)!!! Accidental discovery.......Cooolllll!!!!

  16. Heineken Light(diet beer).....almost like the real one in taste, and can drink more, when can handle the taste.[+o(]

Prefer the homebrew, but probebly couldn't keep up with the brewing, let alone standing up to do it! That's it I'll just sit!

  17. Speaking to the Chorus line, I understand that the Cornwall line are similar component wise. I have the Chorus 1 for awhile now, and am happy with the bass, but understand that the Chorus 2 goes a little lower. The 1 is ported and the 2 has a passive radiator. The "presence" mentioned is larger no doubt somewhat due to the size of the Cornwall vs. the Chorus. I am happy with the Chorus in filling the room with loud, large clear sound, and if you found a deal on them, I cannot see you going too wrong with price range around $500, or less used, good condition. Next could be a Klipch sub. if wanted/needed. HOWEVER, you may take my advice with a grain, cause Chorus are my 1st Klipsch experience. Others here have had Belle, Cornwall, etc.

I want my next buy to be Cornwall,Heresy, etc. just to experience what others here know, that I want to find out.

I am *** NEWBIE TO FORUM ALERT**

  18. As an avid reader of Stereophile, I can tell you JGH never did review anything Klipsch. The first full review of any of the heritage series, speakers was of the LS2,in Nov06 vol. 29, no. 11.. SamTellig reviewed it favorably. The Absolute Sound reviewed the Klipschorn way back in, ,I think issue 4 and 5 in 1974. Not so favorable.

I understand from the original poster to this topic that Mr. Holt is still around, so it's never to late.......and thanks for the info......

*** Garyrc wrote: "Of course, tragically, some of the worst of the Boomers are now in very powerful positions."

I would tend to agree with that statement!
