Classical music, specially when a pipe organ is involved, try Bach for this. On newer music Enya have several recordings with lower 30's and some high 20's (Hz), try also Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, John Serrie, Skinny Puppy or Laurie Anderson.

  3. Tom, I have read about that the parameters of the tube and the port are calibrated for an specific driver... how come that one can change it? Can you help me with this?
  4. What did you use to test volume? an RS SPL? or your ears? In my Room, the Heresy's are able to achieve around 35Hz, but at that frequency they are (I don't recall the actual numbers) 10dB lower than at 45Hz. At around 60hz to 100Hz the dB's are lower than at 50Hz. And from there the response is relatively flat to a peak of +3dB at around 5Khz and then flat to 10Khz (the limit of the RS SPL). The numbers are not exact, that's what I recall of my last test.
  5. Audio Flynn, It is in Mexico City, it have all the Klipsch line, Paradigm, Thiel and some other stuff. Here is the address: Alvaro Obregon 302 Mexico D.F. 06700 The name is "Sala Chopin".

I made clear that my setup is really well made and that the RF7 will sound better matched to a real amplifer, what I didn't say (but I though was implied) is that when you listen to speakers with the dealer they are not properly positioned (at least this was my case) to explote them at full.
  7. All I can tell is wow. The RF7's sound very wide and open, the clarity is outstanding by all means, and Im sure they can sound still better (they were coupled to an HK AV receiver), which don't have (in my view) the power necesary to really drive them to their limits (bass was specially "weak"). Of course the real bass was provided by the RSW15, impressive sub to say the least. I took my MP3 devices to the test sesion (and a couple of my favorite classical CD's) and made a tone test, the RSW15 keep going right to 21Hz with plently power, below that it just "dissapeared". Now, one of the thinks I really liked about hearing those RF7's was that my good old Heresy's are not noticeable behind them!! At least in my room, and in their current (really studied) location, I think Im not missing that much. That is good news for my wallet! The sad part was my "poor" KSW12, it is WAAY behind the RSW15, all that he can is put sound to around 26Hz in my room, far away from the authoritative 21Hz from the RSW.

  9. HornEd don't worry ;-) Im not wanting to buy it. I currently own a KSW12, not the best, but good. And Im planning to get either a SVS or a HSU, or even make my own sonosub with plently power (no less than 500wRMS) and a Tempest driver. Still, I think the audiosource is a really nice sub for the price. You won't be able to buy a 200watts amplifier (and I guess Audiosource is putting real numbers here, according to his reputation with good quality amplifiers), or even just a good 15 inch driver with 200 bucks... 10. As any cheap sub, it appears to be boomy (that doesn't bothers me because setting the crossover to the lowest will get rid of any boominess) and do its best job at around 30-40Hz. It has a reported output to about 25Hz still with power, but almost nothing at 20Hz... but... FOR LESS THAN 200 BUCKS? its a steal, IMO

We were both scratching our heads... My mistake, as English is (obviously) not my first language, I guess sometimes is hard to understand me. Anyway, Im a philosopher and I was enjoying a lot another discussion (I think was on cables) where philosophy, politics and even religion came to the forum. You writed good posts there and when you said something about doing some philosphy (at least thats what I understood) it was like a kind of confirmation on why do we seem to agree on that topic. Anyway, no hard feelings.

  15. quote: Originally posted by Hipnotic_Tranz: At this point I'm so lost on what the best sounding sub I cna get for ~$350 that I just am going to trust a friend of mine and get the one above. It will have to be better than anything I've ever had or have heard so far. I don't know if you specifically are seeking for a sealed one, but check this one, the price seems amazing (and I had read somewhere that there are better prices for this on the street) I bet it will give you more more bass than the unit you mentioned at a better price. You can even close the ports on it to get "a sealed sub" that still will go deeper than the one you saw (I think)... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00001OXQE/qid=1013395736/br=1-15/ref=br_lf_e_15/102-6085261-0293717

I suppose we agree, and yet take different appoach to dispelling those myths." Completly Agree. There are A LOT of myths surrounding the reproduction of the sound. Most audiophiles will fall in lot of them without further researching nor thinking. I personally want to thank you both because your clear thinking... even if sometimes you don't agree with each other! Manuel
  18. Oh yes! Ted Nugent! WANGO TANGO was like an hymn for me and my friends... really good times!
  19. quote: Originally posted by BenG: I feel a loss of detail, clarity, I once had. This is really strange. Most people feels exactly the opposite when first exposed to the Heresy's. In fact, they feel so MUCH detail and clarity that they feel the speakers as "harsh"! I think something is going on on your system...
  20. Justin, the sound of the street with the window open is louder than the total power of my system ;-) And no, this is not a noisy neighborhood.
  21. The apartment under me is for rent, and I wanted to know how much sound its transmited from my equipment before the new neighbor arrives. So I just cranked my system to the max using a heavy song by Limp Bizkit and I found that the building (an old very solid construction) is very well isolated. Anyway, I picked up my RS SPL meter and found that the continue SPL was between 104-106dB at my listening position (about 5 meters from each speaker). There were no audible distortion nor clipping at all (just an "out of headroom" or compression sensation). This amount may sound like not to much, but it is well above my listening tastes, and it was fun to see what my system can do at its limits. 22. This one is easy!, just buy three more pairs of Heresy's!
  23. quote: Originally posted by BenG: Familiar recordings such as Young & Rollins Salsa Flamenca, I lost detail in every aspect. (im still in disbelief) Don't panic! there are several reasons for you to feel this way. First of all, as mobile said, wait to break in the speakers! It is really important, trust me. Secondly, you are jumping to a conclusion to fast. PLAY WITH POSITIONING, I know, sounds like first grade class, but all the speakers have "secret sounds" that can only come out with careful positioning. In the case of the Horn systems perhaps this is more critical than with normal drivers. Toe them in!, play with the distance to the walls! try to put them at your ears level! And, lastly, you are used to your old speakers, of course Heresy's will sound very different. But you have to admit that, perhaps (just perhaps) your new speakers are sounding a hole more "real" than your older ones, and that you have been so used to them that you started to believe that they were producing "good sound" (whatever than means).
  24. quote: Originally posted by mdeneen: Integrated tube amps are pretty limiting in configuring your system. I see no advantage or reason to get them when you are going to be messing with subs and all that. I have a pair of Heresy's and a KSW12 (soon to be replaced with a SVS or HSU). I drive them all with an old Technics 30wpc integrated amplfier wich have two "tape rec outs" on which I connect the subwoofer. The sound is simply beautiful. It sounds a lot better than my friends equipments (B&W's, NHT's, Mirage's coupled with much more expensive SS amplfiers) at least to my ears (all that matters). But I wonder if I can improve the sound with a tube amplifier, just for curiosity and in the never ending desire to improve my system. On the bass side, my KSW12 can reach in my room around the 26Hz anounced, but without authority, and I want something that extend the lows to around 20Hz with solid amounts of bass. I use my system mainly for classical music listening and I can't imagine to hear it without authoritative bass to at least 30Hz, so the use of a subwoofer is an absolute requirement (with my current speakers of course).
  25. quote: Originally posted by deang: I'm no expert - but it seems to me that even an RF7 could benefit by being driven by an amplifier that has plenty of reserve power. I think theears does exactly this, he drives his RF7 with a Bryston (I don't remember the model) and he say this do wonders for the speakers. I have personally tested the 3B-ST the amount of power is just HUGE, and it was coupled with a set of NHT's with far less sensitivity than any Klipsch. The thing that was more apparent to me is the massive amouts of bass that amplifier is able to put, even with the 8 inch drivers on the NHT's.
