  1. One week later, she's still alive but Dr's say 72 hours or less. She's not been responsive to anything in a week and is almost in a comatose state. I went to see her earlier for awhile and came back home to sleep in my own bed for the first time in two weeks. I know in my heart that I've done all I can do and I have no regrets. I'll go to work tomorrow, also for the first time in two weeks, and just wait for the call when they say it's close or she's gone. It's in God's hands...it has been in God's hands. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

  2. Well, with all this time I've spent in the hospital with my mother in hospice care, I've pondered more. So if it were down to a choice of a Bottlehead Stereomour II 2a3 amp versus the Latino ST-70/120 at similar price points, what's everyone's personal opinion of what they'd go with? It would be run on my CF-3's (99db @ 1 watt) for now and eventally Belle clones (103db). I know....some like more tube power, some like the allure of the SET sonic nature (which I'm curious of as well)

Again, just curious of others opinions and I take them as such.

  3. Join the Polk forum and I believe you can get them for under $50. May have changed, though. Got to give Polk credit; they still stock and supply parts to people that run those "quarter century old speakers". And you don't have to jump through fiery hoops to get them. Except for passive radiators....those are unobtanium for the most part.

    Did you Google them?

Solid resale value, possibly $1400?  (no date when value was assessed)

Sounds like they have some issues but can be modified.

$1400 is what they once retailed for. They do not go for that high now. I've owned RTA's, SDA's, and Monitor series over the years. Good sounding speakers and do like power. I'd take a pair of RTA 15's any day of the week. They give the CF's a serious run for the money.

What issues? A bad tweeter? That's no big deal. A person doesn't have to do near the modifications on those like seems to have to be done on Klipsch. Change this, change that, add this, do that. Capacitors and resistors are all I ever did short of maybe changing to the newer Polk RD0 tweeters.

Where are you located? If you don't like them, I'd take them off your hands. If you were close. ;)

  5. Yes, I'm in the hospital room with my mother where I've been for 10 days now. Been doing a lot of reading and pondering about SET amps and have bugged Maynard as well. It seems that when most SET amps are described, they talk about vocals (specifically female), instrument placement, staging, depth, etc. Are SET's more of a music genre limited amplifier? Since that type of music may be about 40% or less of my listening, and the rest being more in various iterations of rock, what happens then? I'm assuming the sound quality is still there but the power of the SET would be more taxed in trying to play R&R, etc.

Do those with SET switch to other amps when they feel the need to crank? Just curious. I'm 50...I still crank it up on occasion when the family is gone. 80's hair bands, 70's rock, harder newer stuff, etc.

  6. She is down to her final hours now. All of the signs are showing that the time is near. She has been comfortable and peaceful, overall, and I pray it continues. Respiratory is down to 9 or 10 per minute and hasn't been very responsive today as far as asking for a drink or even being agitated when being moved around in bed by the nurses. I've been here every day and night since last Monday and have seen it progress. It's hard to watch and experience but I felt like I needed to be here as much as possible as there isn't anyone else. I'm the only child of an only child.

I pray for a peaceful passing for you, mom. I love you...

  7. Without going into a lot of medical history with her health, it's down to the last hours as I sit with her in hospice care in the hospital. 6 trips to hospital and 5 weeks worth of rehab earlier in the year just haven't been able to clear the many things that have plagued her. She's on comfort care now...no medicine, no oxygen, no telemetry; just as her wishes were. Please keep her in your prayers for a comfortable and peaceful passing whenever that time comes.
