Why don't you contact Peachtree and see what they'd charge to repair it? That's a real nice amp and a great pair of speakers and almost a shame to get something different. I run a Carver amp myself on my CF-4's (and soon KLF-30's); I have the M-1.0t upgraded to the MkII Opt 002 which puts out 400+ watts/channel. I used to run the TFM-55 on other speakers for years and they are great amps. But like any older amp, they'll need service at some point. But I know what you mean about letting the magic smoke out of something. It sucks.

A gal that likes actually messing with the electrical side...that's awesome! Madisound is one of the other places that carries Solen caps and also PartsConnexion out of Canada. They, PC, also carry Mills resistors of which both Solen and Mills have been my picks for over 25 years. I avoid PE whenever I can but sometimes it's a have to.
Yes, it's always good to have no left over parts!

I've got one of the Magnavox 9304-20's that came from a console. EL84 tubes, 6EU7 pre drivers, updated caps and resistors all around, IEC power plug, RCA jacks, speaker outs, and a switch of course. I'm about to buy some replacement Sovtek tubes all the way around and I'll be done most likely. It's a great sounding amp for the money I've got in it and sounds really good on the CF-3's. Finding one that's already done just takes some research to find one done decently. But, they are quite nice for the money.

I heard them years ago when they were new...at CES and various home audio dealers. Always liked that series and the CF's. It might be a couple of months before I get to mess with them but that's ok.

Yep. Those are the ones. No one else bid on them and a good friend of mine is picking them up today and will either bring them back his next trip home or I'll make a weekend trip.

Ummm... You're saying to pull the panel and then fire up the music? I've read where some have used diluted Titebond glue in the crack or gorilla glue with good results. I have both actually. I know fully removing the panel and fixing it is the best way and I may wait and go that route this coming weekend. I've just recently found a pair of KLF-30's I'm going to be refinishing and I would imagine they'll need the bracing too.

What's the recommended "juice" to fix it?

Wow...was listening to some music up pretty loud while the family is out school shopping and noticed a "knocking" sound from the right speaker. Oh great....a bad woofer. Or maybe the picture she has sitting up there is moving. I put my ear to the back area and you could plainly hear the knocking from the back panel not being fully secured to the cabinet. Now, I've heard of this happening in the KLF series and the fix for those but was this something that happened in the Epic CF series as well? The left speakers panel is as solid as can be for stock but the other is rattling like a bi0tch when you give it some juice and it's especially noticeable on a kick drum. Well crap. I guess that's a project for another weekend.
Is this the glue thing?

They are just Chorus 2's overall. Good luck with that. Saw them on the Texarkana Craigslist for $1250 and still thought too much.

Since obviously to upgrade passive crossovers can get a little pricey with good caps, resistors, coils, etc, what about just bypassing the internal passive crossover and going full electronic 2-way? I did that for years in car audio, pro audio and some home audio applications but is there any hold back on doing these CF-3's this way to alleviate power loss from the passive network? I've got a modified Carver M-1.0t (425+ wpc) and also a modified M-200t (about 150 wpc) that could run in bi-amp setup. Yeah, maybe a little overkill in power but it's always opened up the staging, depth, imaging, etc, in dividing things out electronically versus passive. Anyhing to hold a person back from going this route?

I'm a Network Administrator for a school district and my wife is a Clinic Manager/Surgical Tech for a dermatology/skin cancer clinic. My first career was 18 years in home/car audio/video retail then 11 years as a Manufacturers Rep for multiple lines of home A/V including Sunfire, Onkyo, Integra, NAD, PSB, Elan Home Systems, Mitek (MTX, etc) and some others plus ar Audio including Rockford Fosgate, Lightning Audio, Q-Logic, Panasonic, and a few more. It's good to be out of that stress from before and all of the wild hours but I do miss the cool places I got to travel to. I really enjoy my hours now and having off a week for spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas break.

I think the first thing I'm going to do is replace all of the caps with Solen caps and the wire wound resistors with Mills 12w 1% resistors plus sound deaden the horns and woofer frames. Then, I'll go from there.

Mine are definitely the crossovers from post #3 above. The 40uf and 25uf caps are electrolytic and the others are the yellow Mylar caps. I guess it wouldn't hurt changing them all out for Solens at some point and possibly change the 5 resistors to Mills 5% versions.

The drawer guides weren't too bad to do really. I guess being good at math came in handy! Haha. Maybe that's why I did so many years in audio/video and understood ohms law and now in my second career, I deal with multiple VLAN's and thousands of computers and can subnet like a beast. ;-)

It's amazing how cool the M-1.0t runs even under reasonably loud playing but there is forced cooling through the backside of the cabinet. Thanks for the comments!

I figured since I hadnt been able to find a rack I liked, I'd just build my own. Having been around an uncle growing up who was a master craftsman/carpenter/cabinet maker and was major talented so I learned a lot from him. Not to mention I spent 25 years doing major custom car audio and home a/v installs so that helped too. I'm not near as fast at 47 years old as I was at 27 so it took me a tad longer. But, it turned out nice and is rock solid. It's built out of 1/2" MDF layered with 1/4" oak and the trim is done out of various sizes of red oak and I did my own routered trim pieces.
My wife was a major help with all the sanding and staining (she loves that part thank God) and did an awesome job.
It holds my Carver C-1 preamp that's been highly modified with all new Nichicon and Panasonic caps, 1% tolerance resistors, 8 new IC's, all new solid RCA jacks and I added remote control volume to it. Also my highly modified Carver M-1.0t that's upgraded to the MkII Opt 002 that puts out 425+ watts/channel and is dead quiet. There's also my ps3, a Carver CD player, Wii, and my 4 TB music server running JRiver with my CDs ripped in as FLAC files through a Fiii DAC for now.
Next up will be recapping my CF-3's and doing some bracing and deadening. When time allows...

I ended up with the CF-3's and am happy with the results. Haven't had a lot of listen time as my daughter has been in the hospital for three days now. But soon!

When I lived in Denton, tx, I bought quite a few things at great prices. A pair of '77 Heresy HBR's for $10 from Goodwill; they labeled them as "you want these homemade speakers?" Yep. Also bought Heresy 2's for $20 and another pair for $50. From one guy, I picked up (3) Academy's for $50. Also a pair or stunning '78 Klipschorns for $500 from a retired Delta Airlines pilot that came with the original gallon of Watco Walnut Danish Oil from a hardware store that showed it cost 99 cents. He also had a custom Barzilay cabinet with tambour doors that was made in CA to hold some of his albums, Tandberg and Mc equipment, etc. Two sections; six foot lower doiece and four foot upper piece. Think I gave $75 for it.
