  1. Pretty much your, reciever can make a difference in sound some like one brand over another. But if you like the sound now you will most likely like it when you up grade. A for the sub you might be fine for now I wouldnt worry to much untill you get in your new place. But it sounds like you are on the right path. And yes I would up grade that center as soon as you can after you upgrade your fronts.

  2. The hd500 is a sub and 5 channel plus sub set up this is a great entry level setup. Your Onkyo is a 7.2 so going with the f30s for your fronts I would move the mains that came with the hd500 setup to your surrounds, and your surrounds to your surround backs. But I would upgrade your center to the c20 so you have a good timbre match. Since your Onkyo seems to have 2 sub outs, you could go with only on sub which depending on your room size might be all right if not I would find either a matching sub or scrap the sub and and find 2 of the same.

How big is your room, there are lots around here with many different setups in many different rooms and can tell you were money is best spent. But I must warn you if you have joined this forum all ready looking to upgrade you must have been bitten by the upgrade bug which means you will get bitten again. So drop the money and go with a all 7.2 Reference line setup, and put that hd500 in your bedroom, or donate it to a friend or family that you feel would appreciate good sound, plus you will need a close by friend to share your new hobbie and interest in. Hope I don't scare you away cheers and have fun.

  3. Yup, everything is possible... but sometimes thinking outside the box. I'd pick up some veneered hardwood plywood (1/8" or 1/4") and simply recover them. You also have to cap the edges with a small square moulding (which would also allow you to deepen the front edge to recieve a grill) and veneer over that front edge.

    But that is just me...

Thought about this as well, then I get to thinking would it just be easier to make new cabs.

  4. I can see what you mean by the rounded corners, do even the Kpts have pebble paint. I guess I thought that more along the lines of the touring speakers would have the pebble paint. But if so, does it take alot to sand it off, I was thinking if not being able to veneer maybe a high gloss black piano like finish.

  5. They are large, but still a smaller footprint into the room than a Heresy. How deep is the bottom edge of the KPT-1201?

Where would I find them and what do they retail for?

The bottoms are 7" deep. I got them from American Cinema. Roy put me in contact with them. I forget what they cost, but it wasn't cheap. BTW, look at the Garage sale section. Rigma has a whole bunch of cinema speakers for sale. Just went up. Not these, but previous KPT models and they might work for you. Prices are excellent.

I just got a quote from a local cinema vendor they were around 650 each for what Rigma has you could buy 3 for that price.

  6. Duder,

If you open up the Dog House cover, normally somewhere in there, there should be a hand written note that will include the signature of the builder, serial number (which will probably be more legible than the outside tag) and "Made in Hope, Arkansas". Everyone of the 50's K Horns I have have this wrirtten somewhere inside the Dog House.

    Hope this helps,

    W. C.

I can read the serial number on the tag and if I pulled the speaker out of the corner more I could read the stain, and wood type better. I can also read that it was made in hope Arkansas, in 1953.

I do have another khorn knock off that was made very nicely in 1957 which is also sign by the builder, I was watching that fellow who was thinking of selling his dads with the pi finish. Maybe someday I will find antoher close the same year. I know if it sounds just as good it shouldn't be a big deal but the collector in me feels the need to have the actuall thing.

Thanks for the input, now I just need to find someone local who can help me reveneer these.

  7. I'm not sure how they can claim that their screens fit both 16:9 and 2.35:1 since it's impossible to do so without masking. That's just simple geometry.

Went to the website this morning and they don't claim, they just don't sell 2.35:1 from what I can tell you might be able to custom order but looks like he might have just ordered what he had seen on the website which is 16.9:1. Sorry for any confusion.

  8. Beautiful, just beautiful. These would be the only speakers I would ever upgrade my Khorns to. Thank you so much for what you have done for our country, you deserve it so much and be safe out there.

Whats the mounster on the av rack next to the make shift rack, it looks like a giant amp.

  9. For some reason his screen from jamestown seems to not have much of the black bars regardless of the moive aspect ratio.

Sounds like his screen is not 2.35:1 or wider. Does he have a standard 16:9 screen?

from what I can tell jametown doesn't give you a option, they claim the way they make there screens fits both very good. When we go to the projector calculator for 120" diag, the deminsions for horizontal and verticale, for both aspect ratio don't match up.

  10. My buddy recently got a projecto 120", Most of the blu rays were 2.35:1 I find this with most of my blu rays maybe this is why I go with blu rays now. WIth my tv I don't notice it but with the projector i notice it more. For some reason his screen from jamestown seems to not have much of the black bars regardless of the moive aspect ratio.

    my 2cents worth.

  11. I just ran these cables from the PC to my 42" panasonic
    3590 35ft Super VGA M/M CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) Cable w/ Ferrites (Gold Plated) 1 $10.50 $10.50
    3976 35ft High-quality Coaxial Audio/Video RCA CL2 Rated Cable - RG6/U 75ohm (for S/PDIF, Digital Coax, Subwoofer & Composite Video) 1 $8.09 $8.09
    2831 35ft Premium Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector 1 $9.91 $9.91

Watch a movie today and it looks great. I haven't decided which audio I like better yet, but as you can see I ran both.

Were did you get them from.

  12. I will be running a dvi to hdmi cable from my comp to my TV, It will be about 20'. Monoprice offers a couple seems to be once you get into longer runs they only over thicker cables. I have the option to get 25' of either 26 or 24 gauge. Will I notice a difference in either one. I know its only 4-5 dollars difference but the way I see it there is no reason to spend money if I don't need to, but if I do then I will.

    Thanks

    Nick

Dillon's Rainy day Women just started playing some I going to crank it up and chill for a min.

  13. used the hatchet to break up some small logs for kindling last night - like butta! going to my folks this evening to show off the big brother 36" axe to my dad and pick up a chopping stump for splitting, as I have yet to fell any trees on my property.

How big is your chopping stump or how big would be, I always liked chopping wood. I don't have a fire place now but do a have fire pit in the backyard. I always found chopping wood a good exercise.

  14. Hey there Datsun, nice to see your system, big and VERY compact, thanks for sharing.

Super88, thanks for the added photos, you'll get it together once you get the home setup Wink DO send photos of your progress.

And..................FINALLY after a flood last MARCH which took out my home theater, it is NOW, after all this time finally going back together! I will put together a group of photos showing the progress over the last half year to the current work being done. Part of the problem was saving up some $$$ to have an all NEW floor installed first, along with new walls and wall moldings! (insurance didn't cover it all)...

Tonight, more of the curtains, all washed and ready to be hung will be installed and steam ironed in place. This will be a TRUE two system theater, with both a complete 7.1 system as before, WITH a combination of all INDEPENDENT tube vintage gear as well Yes

    More to come.

    ..........Gary

Gary good to see you still around even after going through a flood like that, hope all is well and can't wait to see some pics. Hopefully them beautiful Khorns of yours didn't get ruined in the flood.

    Take care.

  15. Thanks for the comments guys, For the record I would never stack my ps3 on top fo anything. It actually was in the cabinet by itself, I guess do to my neglect I never had taken it out and dusted it, I have tried fixing it but it only seems to be good for streaming music off of my comp. When I do get a new one I will be getting one of those fans that connects to the back and it will be on top of the entertainment center were it can get plenty of air. I will be building a new entertainment center this summer which will have bigger cavities I think I might even find a way to add some fans in the back.

    Thanks

  16. How much area around the Emotiva amps do you need. I have a upa-5 I have been sitting on for about a year, I didn't have a space in my entertainment center for it or it would have been installed already. But now my ps3 craped out on my and I have my wife convinced if we get a new one I will be putting it on top now for air flow. So this leaves me with some space in the entertainment center to put the amp in, there is plenty of space on top but I don't know if there is enough air flow on the sides. I guess I could look at the owners manual to see what it says, but it looks as though some of you might have yours in a tight space.

    thanks

    Nick
