  1. You cant go wrong with Sansui and Klipsch ! Its a great combo.
  2. So true Pete. I bought this set on Thursday and sold it today. Since I dont know anything about room treatment I figured this was the best and quickest way to get the sound back. Now I have a real good reason to keep my other furniture.
  3. Thanks for asking Cornman ! These are actually Dodd Audio 120 monoblocks that I was very lucky to aquire. I have a friend who is a personal friend of Gary Dodd. About 6 years ago my friend Mark was having Gary build him a set but every time he finished a set he would sell them to a waiting customer. Mark took Gary 2 - 16" X 14' x 1/2' pieces of plexiglass and asked that he build the amps on them as he knew he wouldnt be able to sell them to the public. After Gary finished they ended up taking them on the road for demo. Mark hadnt used them in a few years so I was able to talk him out of them. They sound fantastic but I also give alot of credit for the sound to the Holfi Pre NB2 battery powered preamp that I use with them. These amps are definately for a newbie like me as you can bias them from the top with a small screwdriver and see the readings on the built in meter. After a few weeks I am going to take them back to Gary to make sure the tubes and everything is up to spec. You can click on the picture I have attached to make it larger.
  4. It is amazing how much it changed the sound. It took a long time trying to achieve the sound only to have it taken away in minutes. Needless to say the furniture is up for sale !
  5. Every since I started this quest 2 1/2 years ago I have had the same furniture in my den. I had just got my system sounding very good when I finally came across a deal on on some H/T recliners that I had been looking to find for quite awhile. After changing them out I sat down for a listen and didnt like it at all. I couldnt figure out what was wrong as the soundstage was gone. I tried listening again the next day and still no soundstage. After checking all my equipment over to see if there was a problem I realized it had to be the furniture swap. Needless to say I put everything back the way it was and I was in heaven again. I never realized that furniture could be somewhat of a room treatment. I think I might have to keep the furniture set-up that I have from now on !
  6. I have had most all the Adcom stuff from this era and the preamp of choice is the GTP-500 not the 500II. I have not had the GTP-350, it is much older. Which amp are you using ?
  7. No, that is the speaker wire incased in a clear jacket. I have cut pieces to go at the bottom of the tailboard but have not installed them yet. After going back and clicking on the picture to enlarge I believe what you are seeing is the clear film rolling up from the insulation board.
  8. By toeing them out it put my sweet spot in the center of the room which works better for home theater as well. I have a fireplace and raised hearth on the front wall where my mains are which could have affected the imaging. Now if I can just get all of the equipment up in the cabinets that I built for them the sound might even get better !
  9. My H/T room is 13'9" X 22' and I have Khorn front and rears. For the first year I had them tightly back in the corners and they never imaged at all. I had a tube guy over shortly after that to listen to my systems and he suggested that we tow them out. We towed them out 5" away from the back wall and I could not believe the difference, imaging for the first time ! The bass did not seem to go away but to make sure I installed false backs on all 4 of them and have never looked back. The sound is FABULOUS ! Here is what thet look like.
  10. So, what are you going to do the the Polk sda-srs that you have ?
  11. Smart move Randall, not everyone can 45 degree the corners on veneer, including myself and I have been a contractor and craftsmen for 36 years. If you can not do that it will never look as good as Klipsch IMHO ! Don
  12. Oldtimer, you are correct , what I meant is I like Walnut, Oak and others that have the real wood finishes !
  13. IMHO, they are the best bang for the buck that Klipsch sells ! I think everyone should own atleast 1 set, I own 4 sets and would not consider selling any of them ! Black is not the same as real wood veneer but they sound just as sweet. I personally would not make a 700 mile roundtrip to get a set but I waited 2 years for a set to come up in my area. In 2 weeks 3 sets came up and I bought all 3.Good Luck with your purchase on them.
  14. Looks like alot of the guys are in hope this weekend ! I looked at the set on audiogon and there is not much info on them. Being new to tubes info is the only thing I have to go on, doent even mention power. ( wpc )
  15. After having the Blueberry for a couple of weeks I am finally getting a chance to listen to it today. My tech friend went out of town and let me use his tube monoblocks for a few days so I could listen to the preamp on my system. It sounds alot more laided back than the Holfi battery powered SS preamp I used last time with the monoblocks. I didnt get any paperwork with the preamp when I bought it and I am very new to tubes so my next question is going to sound dumb. What does the gain knobs do ? Do they just increase the volume level or can they actually change the dynamics of the sound.
  16. Hey Craig, Thanks for the reply. The tubes came from Parts Express. He had the tubes biased at 28mA before I found the bad tube. When he put the mismatched tube in the bias on it was 24mA so he raised it to25mA which put the others to 29mA. What will this do to the sound ? Should I go back and try to get a third quad of matched tubes so they can be biased correctly. Your help is very much appreceiated !
  17. My tech is local and he re-biased it before I left with it. He wanted JJ,s but couldnt locate any. I am looking to see what brands others are using.
  18. Not so fast, I just got back in !
  19. I give up, what does that mean ? I cant help it I am from cental Texas.
  20. What output tubes would you recommend for a Fisher 400. I just had it restored and the original Fishers were replaced with Electro-Harmonix 7868EH tubes. Had very bad luck on the purchase. First matched set had a cracked tube and the second set had one of 2 little plate things (dont know what they are called) on the top that had fallen off and laying beside the glass. Ended up having to use a mismatched tube for the weekend. Before the restoration it sounded the worst on the khorns and best on the heresy,s now it sounds best on the khorns and the worst on the heresy,s. I am confused and any help would be appreceiated
  21. Great to have you back Don! Thanks Scott, your support was outstanding !
  22. Welcome back fellow Chorus II fanatic. Thanks Stormin, Its nice to be back !
  23. Well, you are from Texas... Glad you're back. We learn from the new people, too, btw. Bruce Guilty as charged, I am from Texas. It was not about the number of post it was about the treatment of longtime members after only being here for a short time.
  24. I was the other person involved. This was a subject that I know nothing about but was reading and hoping to learn something. While reading the post I felt as though the other person was disrespecting what I consider to be senior members whom I have alot of respect for and pay great attention to thier advice ! I posted something about all the post in such a short time and the reply I got didnt set very well with me. I answered with my fingers before my brain had time to think about it. I have a very bad habit of standing up for others without being asked. Well, the fight was on and one thing led to another. I have now learned to keep my fingers on my own business. It was never about the topic as posted. Thanks to Amy for reinstating me as I have alot more to learn. Don
