  1. Well I was over at Mike's and saw the system. I thought it sounded great. We listened to some vinyl and some DVD-A which I was thoughly impressed with. I thought that the Scott sounded great. As Mike has said it is very clean throughout. I wouldn't worry about changing anything, it was solid. I was trying to convince Mike that he needs to get his Heresey's back from his girlfriends house and put them on the rear insted of the Chorus. I think they would compliment the LaScala's so much better for 5.1 listening. Any thoughts. We also stated that I thought the Heresy's would sound great running 2 channel with the LaScala's and the Scott. I told him that I didn't think that running two speakers off of one channel is no problem ie quadraphonic 2 channel. I have done it a thousand times back in the days before 2+ channel amps(at least any I had acess to). Just connect +/+ (LaScala/Heresey) and -/- (LaScala/Heresey) into each side of out put on amp (ie conect them in parralel not series). This should not change anything such as ohmage which is probably the most crucial. He will have to crank the volume up to get same decibles out of system due to increased load but you don't get something for nothing. I have two Heresey's connected this way for my HT center channel and have never expirenced a problem. Anyway Mike has a killer system with all of the bells and whistles for HT (Dennon 4800) and 2 channel. The rega sounded great and we never expirienced any of the problems he spoke of in the BB so I guess he got that worked out. The LaScala's looked and sounded great. Q-man did a fantastic job on refinishing them. I can't wait to have Mike over to hear my system which in no way compares to Mike's as far as components go. I am running the system with a Yam 5150 and X-box for CD/DVD audio with the Optical link and heavy zip cord for speaker wire, but in my biased opinion the system rocks. Unfortunatly until the new addition is complete the K-horns arent in corners but we'll make due. ------------------ K-horn's(Main) Cornwall's(Rear) Heresey's(Center) KSW-12(Sub) Yamaha HTR 5150 61" Hitachi WIDESCREEN Dish Net w/Opt Out Xbox w/Comp Out(DVD) JVC S-VHS Pioneer 6 Disk CD Sony Minidisk ------------------------- Can you hear me now?
  2. Mike, No I didn't pick that pair up but I saw them and I contemplated bidding on them. They were very nice but I wasn't sure about the modification but I'm sure they could have easily been restored back to original. I picked up a black pair from a guy in clearwater,fl. I am picking them up this sunday. Right now I just bought a new house in Oviedo (Behind tuskawilla middle school on Tuskawilla Rd) but I am not going to move in for a couple months. We are going to add on to it before we move in. Adding on a theater room (25'x30') for me and a second master. The new theater room will allow me to house the Khorns. Until then they will be sitting my garage getting refinished to woodgrain. Getting together would be neat. Maybe once I get the new horns you can come and check them out. ------------------ K-horn's(Main) Cornwall's(Rear) Heresey's(Center) KSW-12(Sub) Yamaha HTR 5150 61" Hitachi WIDESCREEN Dish Net w/Opt Out Xbox w/Comp Out(DVD) JVC S-VHS Pioneer 6 Disk CD Sony Minidisk ------------------------- Can you hear me now?
  3. How much are used speakers in the heritage line going for these days? I am current owner of Cornwalls and Heresey's. I just purchased K-horns for what I thought was top dollar $2950 but they are like new. I wasn't really sure what the going rate was but more looked at what they were worth to me. To me it was an investment in sound. They will probably be worth more in 5 years than if I put the money in the stock/money market. Anyway, what did you buy/sell you Klipsch for? If I get enough responses I will go through the info and post the statistics. Info to post: 1. Speaker type (Give year if known) 2. Condition 3. Year purchased 4. Price My info: 1. 80' Heresys, Very Nice, 1991, $600 2. 84 Cornwalls, Very Nice, 1998, $350 3. 90 K-Horns, Like New, 2002, $2950 ------------------ K-horn's(Main) Cornwall's(Rear) Heresey's(Center) KSW-12(Sub) Yamaha HTR 5150 61" Hitachi WIDESCREEN Dish Net w/Opt Out Xbox w/Comp Out(DVD) JVC S-VHS Pioneer 6 Disk CD Sony Minidisk ------------------------- Can you hear me now?
  4. Has anyone in this forum tried to refinish a set of black laquer heritage back to woodgrain? If so please see my post under Tech ?'s and let me know how it turned out.
  5. This is a cool page I came across showing some vintage K-horns and similiar horn loaded models as well as vintage speakers. http://community-2.webtv.net/KerrB/VINTAGETUBEAMPHORN/page4.html Page forward and backwards for some interesting information on horn loaded speakers. Last page has links to other horn fanatiks. This message has been edited by erikjohn on 08-05-2002 at 12:37 PM
  6. HDBRbuilder, Please see the attached photo's of the speakers as they were posted on Ebay which shows the serial numbers. Also are you saying that I am going to have to add laminate on the corners because the the black finish models are not laminated on the edges? Or is this because i may not be able to remove the black form the edges? How about woodgrain? Trader said that they use the less attractive woodgrain models for the black finish. Is this true as it would make sense.
  7. Trader, Yeh, just picked them up off ebay this weekend. Been wanting a pair of K horns since I got my first pair of Hereseys in 91'. I had the money and they were relatively close to home so I snatched them up. I guess I didn't get a steal on them like I see some of the posters getting as I ended up paying $2950 for them but to me it was worth it. However I did steal my Cornwalls from someone in Phoenix for $350 about 5 years ago so I guess it equals out. I need some posters out there to give me some confidence before I dig into these bad boys. I am picking them up next Sunday and I know the first touch of the sanding pad is goiing to feel like DIY surgerey on my first born child. If they don't turn out I just don't think I could bear to live with myself. Anyway I will post my progress as it is inevitable that I will be refinishing them as the wife gave me the OK to get them under these circumstances. She loves woodgrain Klipsch and wants all of the speakers to match. This message has been edited by erikjohn on 08-05-2002 at 08:13 AM
  8. I will be adding big brother to my current Corns and Heresey setup. I have refinished the Corns and Heresey's myself but I just purchased a set of K-Horns which I will be picking up next week. They are in perfect shape and have the "Black Laquer Finish" which is fine with me but my wife says I need to refinish them to match the rest of the system. My first question would be "Is it possible to refinish these back to woodgrain finish?" I am concerned that when the black laquer was applied it probably bled deep into the wood making it nearly impossible to bring back to bare wood color. Note that i would like to stain them in walnut to maatch the Cornwalls. Second question, "If it is possible to refinish these speakers what is the best way to go about removing the old color?" ie is there something out there that will strip the old color off of them relatively easily? Any suggestions and feedback is appreciated. Hey HDBRbuilder do you have any comments on this subject?
  9. I have found that the Hereseys do make a very good match with the Corns as that is what I run. In fact they are very close, probably the closest you'll come to matching the sound of the Corns for under 1k(Used of course). However Unless your plan is to go with a full HT setup of Heritage I would highly reccomend using the Heresy's for the center as it make the sould across the front much more seamless where to me at least it seems to be the most noticeable if speakers are not as closely matched as possible. The rears don't need to be as close as of match when your talking about HT(Over 50% of what you hear in HT is out of the center if your running a High Current amp with full range 20-20k on all channels). Simply because for the most part your are hearing the same range of sounds across the front and when they don't mesh together right it is noticeable. When you match the center correctly you really dont even know it's there. What I mean is it's tough to selectivlely pick out the noticeable sound of the center other than direction. The rears are not as imortant as the center however If I was running klipsch on the front and center I would not go with anything other than klipsch in the rear to keep everything in the family.
  10. BOA, I thought you ran a Sony on your HT not Marantz.
  11. I am currently in the market for buying a new receiver for my HT. I have seen a whole lot of posts that boast Denon, Marantz and Onkyo. I currently have a Yamaha HTR 5250 and I love the way it sounds although I have never done a taste test comparison to other receivers. I guess what I'm looking for is for some feedback on the new Yamaha models and any comparisons any one has done as far as Yam VS. Denon or Yam VS Marantz. Anyway I am looking to spend btwn $1000-$1500. I run a mostly Heritage system. Yamaha HTR-5250 85 Cornwalls - Frnt 81 Heresy(Pr) - Ctr KSF-8.5 - Rear KSW-12 Sub Hitachi 61" HDTV SuperUltravision
  12. Stupidass, I have the corns on the front with a pair of Heresey I's on top of the 36". The sound is seamless with the right amp. EJ Yamaha 5250 Receiver Cornwall Mains Heresey's Centers KSF 8.5's Rears KSW 12 Sub
  13. I recently upgraded from the Sony STR 545 to the Yamaha HTR 5250. The difference in sound is no comparison. The full power on all channels is awesome. Anybody with klipsch speakers has to make sure they get an amp with full frequency and power on all channels or you are just killing the sound of your klipsch. The guts of my system is: Yamaha HTR-5250 Front: Cornwall I's Rear: KSF 8.5's Center: Pair Heresey I's Sub: None When I swithched the Sony from 2 channel to 5 channel there was a huge gap in the sound frequencies I was hearing. I totally lost alot of sound. It sucked and really irritated me so I had to get an amp that would not do this. The Yamy rocks. I can hardley tell a difference in this with the Yamy the only difference is the placement of the sound.( note that in order to not hear a noticeable difference in the sound you must have at least a properly matched center to your fronts which I learned on this board a couple months ago) I am wondering if anybody out there has made the same discovery as me. Also does anyone have any thing good or bad to say obout the Yamy. I will say tat the sound is great, wish it had more options for the DSP, I like the Video switching, remote is a bit confusing at first but grows on you, menus for changing settings could be better. The bottom line though and most important is it sounds great and the price is very low for the high quality of the sound($469 w/a set of Yamaha Speakers at Best Buy). So what do you got to say about it or any Fully Discrete, Full Range, Full Power on all channel amps. EJ
