I'm currently running the Marantz SR8200 & absolutely love the 2 channel it produces. Such a warm match for Cornwall's! Bypassing the digital filters is a MUST! Always use the 2 channel direct mode. Regards, Disco Stu

damaged during shipping KV3 i need some advice
Stu Pidass replied to bkollus's topic in Home Theater
Bummer about the damage. I had a speaker doamged in shipping. Only cpsmetic though. Turned out that UPS paid me the insured value & I kept the speaker. Makes a fine center channel for my Klipsh heritage system. No doubt an insurance claim is in order. Assuming you purchased insurance. Good luck. Just be patient. The end result should be fine. Regards, Stu -
Definitely use your best speakers for mains. Surrounds provide mostly ambient sound anyway.

New House - Trying to Decide... Home Theater Setup?
Stu Pidass replied to rmeredith@pa.net's topic in Home Theater
It looks to me that your environment dictates those rear speaker placements. Ideally they would be a foot or 2 behind the couch firing at each other. Try angling them in at different degrees to see what sounds best. Sorry I can't comment on the RS3's compatibility without knowledge of your other components. Yeesh....how did guns become a topic in the 2 channel forum? People actually feel compelled to carry weapons? What a sad reflection on society that is!!!! For those in the great white north this is not an issue eh. I kinda like the fact that murders here are actually reported in the news (front page). I can't imagine the anxiety people live with that causes them to feel "safe" only when packing heat. When society gets to that point.......well you have to question why and how. It's really sad. You have to check out the Marantz line of receivers. Hiss is a foreign word...I mean these are SILENT. It's really quite amazing. The SR8000 might be a bit pricy for your budget but give the SR7000 a listen in direct mode to bypass all the digital filtering. They compliment the heritage line very well musically and don't take a back seat for Ht either. "Good thing it wasn't a Heresy -- your thumb would have gone right through the paper driver." HA HA HA HA HA HA HA .................!!!! Dean: Some people might suggest you have some kind of complex about the Heritage line (certainly not me). The reference series with their "New Technologies" are fine speakers. Your speculation on the paper fibre cones is just that, merely speculation. I can say with some certainty the Heresy cone, unlike the Reference series, certainly don't crease by merely rubbing your thumb on them as Crash indicated. It's just a crease though so don't sweat it. Used Hersy's are a great value and make fine HT speakers. Having said that, you will find a sub is a must unless you use them strictly as a center and surrounds and they are matched with capable mains (Cornwalls ). They can in fact be used quite nicely as a center channel. Simply set it on it's side and voila. Talon: I'm no electrical engineer nor "expert" at much that audio involves. It's my understanding that moving twice as much air results in a 6db gain. Add a second sub and you do move twice as much air (which is of course how sound is generated). You are correct that doubling the power to a speaker or speakers results in only a 3db gain. I own a single PW2200 and price was a consideration also being from Canada. I can say with some certainty that the PW2200 is no garbage can. The bass is tight and musical yet has the range for effective HT. A second PW220 will increase the output by 6db. That may not sound like much but is actually quite substantial. Certainly the SVS line is no slouch and does not take a back seat to the PW2200, however, for the money you just can't even come close to the PW2200 and their output will rival the SVS. You'll be hard pressed to match Marantz for music. This especially true when matched with Klipsch speakers. Having said that you should actually listen to the receiver in your own environment before you make up your mind. It boils down to what "YOU" like. Sorry but there is no MAGIC answer. HornEd: You comments regarding working outside the "rules" as dictated by the listening environment are absolutely true and well taken. They are guidelines only and sometimes need to be bent.
