  1. I don't see how this knid of damage occured without damaging the box??? Were the missing pieces of veneer in the box with the speaker??? or did he sell you a speaker that was already messed up?? Roger
  2. Thats true!! But all joking aside it was poor packing!! The box wasnt damaged at all otherwise i wouldnt have sign for it!! But never the less UPS is retarded! thats the rear corner! Makes no difference!!! One of the subs, was signature confirmation and the UPS driver forged my signature and delivered it when I wasn't home. I argued with them that he did this because he knew the contents were destroyed, you could hear the magnet structure rolling arround inside the box!! THe Box was destroyed. I bought a Velodyne HGS18-II from an authorized dealer that was a demo. He couldn't find the Velodyne box, so he shipped it in a brand new Klipsch RSW-15 factory box and packing. UPS excuse...... "Not propperly packaged"!!! Roger
  3. Iam considering sending it back! What it comes down to is Time! And i would have to pay to ship unit back! Plus if i ship it back the way i got unit it would be destroyed!! period!! And iam not going to go pay for UPS to box it again!! The Right way!! I paid them $60.00 to ship unit..Then he found out that it would cost 120.00 and decided to take it out of the other box...And get this UPS said it would be fine that way and they will use peanuts to pack it up better in the original box! This was never told to be until today!! I think iam better off tying to get a desent refund back........Or paypal here i come!! I dont want to be a jerk about this but what am i to do?? The problem is that most of these guys haven't done enough buisness to know what terrible D*CKs UPS are. You got less that a 50/50 chance with them on anything heavy, even if you mark it fragile, and it is still going to be YOUR fault, even if you bought insurance!! They claim packing insufficient every time!! Like I said, Score to date; UPS has destroyed 3 subwoofers and a 300 watt mono block for me. DHL? the yellow trucks with red lettering, have destroyed one subwoofer for me. Fed-Ex hasn't destroyed anything yet for me, and neither has the USPS!!, or any of the freight deliveries I have done so far with private carriers. Get this, on two of the subs, they had been thrown or dropped from a height high enough that it sheared the magnet structure in half, severing the voice coil and former and all, and UPS retards still claim bad packaging!! They are fric*in thieves!!! Roger
  4. Let me guess... Fricken UPS strikes again, and forget about that you bought insurance!! They have destroyed three subs and a mono bolck amp for me and they always blame it on the packing job and wont pay, even with a lift fork hole in the box!! Roger
  5. Man, that sucks in a MAJOR way!!! Great oppurtunity to upgrade to a nicer veneer then Cherry though!! Every cloud silver lining thing. Spend the money and get in touch with 928gts and make them pretty!! On the other side, for those do it yourselfers, I worked for 3.5 years in a custom woodworking shop and 2.5 years in a custom laminate shop prior to finishing college. To fix messed up MDF, dig all the loose stuff away with a small screw driver or knife and use car bondo, make sure you have more than enough to raise the surface beyond where it is needed, then take it to a local woodworking shop that has a widebelt with a table large enough to handle the outside dimentions of your box. a few passes and you have a perfectly square corner to lay veneer on and it shouldn't cost much either. Roger
  6. Gary, If the Tinnitus ever gets bad enough, maybe you could upgrade to a set of 50s CornerHorns with the wooden midrange horn, and make like Thomas Alva Edison did?? Roger
  7. Hey Old Timer, Why no response about a Thunderbolt Fairlane?? Your not one of those closet Chevy freaks that doesn't know what a Thunderbolt is and looks at peoples speakers in the wrong way are ...YOU???? [*-)]-[:$]-[:|]-[:S] Roger
  8. looks like some kind of mold or fungal growth!! Just think of the release of the spore cloud when you want to rock out!! [+o(] Roger
  9. I highly beg to differ!! Isn't Insanity that keeps us comming back for more?? Look at The Ear, and his obsession with mass accumulation of Subs! Look at at "the house of Klipsch and his accumulation of large Klipsch, and then there is Thebes, well he just needs help period!![^o)][<)][:#] Roger[6]
  10. Sell him a monster Mike[Y] Roger
  11. My sub is about 25' away from the popcorn machine, it definately does not rattle. Maybe this means I need a better sub? If your popcorn machine rattles at 5 feet from the sub, but wont at 25 feet, then I would say yes, that you need more sub!![] I would assume with glass doors and the weighted popping lid, that it would rattle with any really serious bass hit. I personally love the gun shot effects on open range with my Velodynes!![6] Roger
  12. Daddy Dee, My point exactly about home theatre with a Heresey center between LaScalas. Not only the midrange/dialog completely different with the smaller horn, but you have a major difference in sensitivity!!! Those LaScalas NEED a LaScala center!! Roger
  13. Let's get back on track for B.Althaus shall we?? To say that all SS amps are the same is a major crock full of SH*T!! If I can convince you of one thing dude, please stay as far away from that Sony amp as possible. It would be a major help to know how much you are willing to spend on an amp?? If you are primarily looking in the used market, I would suggest an old Nakamichi PA-7 or PA-5 amp. They are the same vintage as your speakers and Nakamichi is the best thing I ever heard on my Quartets when they were new period!! Roger
  14. WSU99999, I run all Cornerhorns with a LaScala center. My buddy has had a pair of Corner horns and a pair of LaScalas for over 20 years and liked to listen to music in 4 channel stereo. Very Loud. I told him for years that he needed another LaScala. I finally took mine over and popped in a 5.1 Ozzy DVD. It was like the first time I took him to listen to a pair of K-Horns all over again. He couldn't believe the things he had been missing and how it brought out Johns voice front and center. A Heresy is only a substitute, buy a pair of LaScalas if you have to and sell one, or buy two LaScalas and hold on to the extra till you find a single, and then sell the Fortes. I like the Fortes for better articulation, but they are being wasted on surround duties and two more LaScalas wont really eat up much more realestate because of needing to pull the Fortes out from the corners, plus the Db output on 5 channel stereo with 5 LaScalas is very impressive to show off with friends. Roger
  15. I need to get a popcorn machine, but I wouldn't have it in the room. I am sure that thing would rattle like crazy with my twin Velodyne HGS18-IIs. Doesn't your sub make that thing anoying to have in the room?? Roger
  16. But would you be so anal about a ford fairlane? OT, I guess that would depend on if that Fairlane was an orriginal factory Thunderbolt or not now wouldn't it?? Roger
  17. OT, Best post, & best answer I have seen in this thread to the orriginal question!! How far do you let some pervert making eyes at your underage daughter go before you get off your A*S and do something about it?? I guess you have to figgure out where your priorities lay. Roger
  18. Gary, If you think that was loud, then you need to hear multiple big Klipsch at full throttle. On a side note, do you have any pictures of your work?? I have a knife that was hand made for me by a friend about ten years ago. That friend is now dead, and I would like to have something nice to sheath it in. The biggest problem is the point end of the blade is considderably wider than the hilt end. Some sort of snapping loop would need to be employed to keep the knife secured tight and forward. Roger
  19. James, I have two 1967 "S" code 390 big block GT fastback mustangs and I'm considdering selling one of them. I had a guy and his brother come to look at the car I am considdering selling. Now this kid is worth several million dollars and owns a 426 max wedge factory light weight Savoy among other things, and I am selling a 427 Ford "Hi-Riser" dual factory 4BBL with it like the ones that came in Thunderbolt Fairlains and factory Light Weight Galaxies that competed in A F/X. I am overhead getting the intake for the Hi-Riser out and the brother askes "What's the deal on this black car. I can see him from where I am at, and I tell him, that car is not for sale. He then proceeds to open the hood and open the car and look arround inside. Now if he had asked, there would not have been a problem, but he didn't, so I say in a rather curt, raised voice " I said that car isn't for sale and you don't have enough F--N money to buy it from me. This jerk then goes over to my 427 SOHC engine on my engine stand and asks what the deal on the motor is? I tell him that it isn't for sale. I have the spark plugs out of the heads and this guy pulls one of the spark plug tubes out of the valve cover and looks into the hole. (He is lucky I didn't put a .44 in his face and tell him to run). A week later the kid who is interested calls and wants to know if he can bring his personal body guy over with him to look at the car. I tell him that is fine, but his brother is not welcome on my propperty and explain why. Long story short, he never called or came back. Some people need disposed of!!! Roger
  20. Wow, that 15WK looks MINT! One of the great woofers when properly crossed over within the system. The light is just right in the mirror to show the glint of the stamped "K" after the 15W, both in reverse, in the first pic above. It should be worth something in auction.EDIT: Earlier in the thread, twistedcrankcammer said it would have an orange-red surround if it were an unreconed Klipsch 15WK, and that's my memory of it. If it doesn't, I wonder if it might be a non-Klipsch E-V 15WK, or re-coned. Larry C, I have seen alot of Electro Voice 15W-Ks. The majority of them have been reconed long ago with the black surround with the EV printed on the dust cap. These orriginal replacement cones are no longer available. If it is a black surround recone, it is worth $150. If it has the orangish red surround, it could bring up to $250 if in perfect condition. The badge is the most valuable piece next to the surround. Even if it needs a recone, it is worth $100 with the badge. There are three diferent models of the EV 15W-K woofer; The newest or coffee can version has a cast aluminum housing over a ferrite magnet. This version looks like it has a chrome band or bowtie on the housing which is just a raised and polished part of the cover. The rest of the cover is the same tannish color. The coffee can version is the newest version, and is not worth much at all, $100 perfect. The other two versions have alnico magnets with steel housings. One of the reasons I wanted to see the badge was that if all these parts came from a Patrition IV, it could have been an EV 18W-K, and then we would be talking somw serious money. The version Nate has is the oldest version as evidenced by the badge and the the two machine screws going through the back of the magnet structure. The Stevens true sonic is worth a little more, I just saw one on ebay go for about $325. Nate3200, I thing it is a major shame that you don't restore these, but if you are going to part them out, I am interested in the Electro Voice EV 15W-K woofer, but will need full photos out of the cabinet. I will pay a fair price even if I have to get it reconed. I have been putting these woofers in all of my Heritage speakers. Thanks.... Roger
  21. Nope...not at all. They love the demos but do not have a passion for music nor HT. My four children know not to run, touch or even look at my speakers. LOL. I actually debated when I got them whether to leave them in the box until we build our house and have a dedicated theater room or to use them in the meantime. I couldn't bare the thought of keeping them locked up in those cramped boxes for over a year. I just had to rescue them and free them from their bondage. Youthman, The keep them locked up in the box....... The kids or the speakers??? LOL Roger
  22. Nate3200, Neither of these two were orriginal too your speaker. Your 1954 cabinet with the 190 serial number is the 69th Klipschorn built at the factory ever. Paul Klipsch made 20 more of these speakers in a shed prior to opening up the factory, so this is probably the 89th Klipschorn ever built. Orriginally, your speaker would have had a University MID-T-4401 tweeter. This will be very hard to find. Until you can find a pair of these, I would suggest putting in a pair of Electro Voice T-35 tweeters that they first started using in November of 1957. These early EV tweeters will have the same tannish painted Alnico Magnet driver as your EV woofer. These early EV T-35 tweeters will be alot easier to find, and came with two different sized horn lenses. A skinny one, and one with the same dimention horn as on the new speakers. I believe the skinny one to be more period correct from the few early units I have seen pictures of. (I just checked ebay and there are several University MID-T-4401 tweeters for sale right now!!) Maybe BEC or Colter, or someone knows which ohms rating you need for sure, but I suspect you need a 16 ohm. Can anybody verify this???? If your Stephens Woofer is Orriginal, it should be a 103LX2 woofer. I just saw one of these on ebay. Please post a picture of your stephens woofers model number. Please also post a good picture of the badge on the back of your EV woofer, a close up please. Do both of your units have the wooden K-5-T horn with university drivers attached??? I watch Klipsch on ebay about twice a week. You should be able to pick up a close to period correct crossover with alot of dedication. You can call my cell (419)-231-5494 but I will be OOT till Tuesday afternoon. I woould keep all of the Patrician IV stuff, and build one. The books with the planns for one of these is readily available on ebay under Electro Voice. Good Luck...... Roger
  23. bhenry, I did not use regular house recepticles, although 25 amp recepticles most certainly do exist. I did not want the wife or anyone else for that matter to be able to plug into my dedicated circuits. At 1,250 watts RMS a 15 amp braker with #14 gauge wire would be marginal at best. Cost of #6 wire cost prohibitive??? For yo-yos who would spend $1,000 or more on a line conditioner, speaker wire or high priced inter connects, good feed is a much better investment. Why would someone buy great speakers and a high end amp plus all the other stuff and sink $20,000 plus and not build a dedicated listening room when next to speakers, accoustics have the biggest effect?? This relates to power supply as well!!! Why put all the money$$$ into connects etc., and a line conditioner and not pay for a second line transformer and or only be marginal on feed. Very backwards perspective in lack of thought process from my viewpoint!!! Roger
  24. That would be "damned" voices. (I truely have dyslexia, so spelling isn't my strong point either!!) oldbuckster, While I know that the Cornwalls used the same drivers as used in the Klipschorn, and I know a guy who owns some, are the woofers in the cornwall still 4 ohm voice coiled drivers?? The Corner Horn was fitted with 4 ohm 15 inch woofers specifically because the resistance of horn loading makes the crossover see 16 ohms of resistance. This could be handled with added resistance built into to Cornwalls cross over, a question that I am sure BEC could surely answer, but just something to make sure of on the compatabilty of BECs woofers in a Cornwall aplication. Roger
  25. kaiser, You dont have to modify your LaScala base bins to make Bobs woofers fit. you can grind some off of the two sides of the woofer frame. The EV15W-K woofer fits right into a LaScala base bin without modification and has the added benifit of being orriginal equipement for Klipsch. I am going to have a 4 woofer comparison, but I know for a fact that the newer round magnet Eminence K-33E wasn't even close when I compared it back and forth (I changed it twice with my brother in law / also a CornerHorn owner) with the Electro Voice woofer. The EV was much better sounding, but I want to try all 4 speekers, with 3 guys that own K-Horns, and two of us also own LaScalas, and a third guy who is the only private reconer in the country recomended by Electro Voice who works on EV 30Ws. Roger
