    Yes, will do.

I'm going to check them both and probably run it through DATS to get some numbers on them.

    Hey Pete!

As you know, I have a Ton of old KP-600 gear.

What you may not know is that besides the KP-600's and all my TSCM's, I also used to have A bunch of MCM-1900 stuff. I had five MWM doubles and four MWM singles along with a ton of other MCM-1900 pieces. I also had a pair of KP-480's among others. I also used to have like 43 separate spare 15 inch Klipsch drivers. Your 15 inch drivers in question do look to me like the K-48 drivers from my KP-480's Bass Bins to me. Those speakers were pristine and 100% untouched. One thing I have learned from the KP-600's is that the early KP-600's had a split pair off K-60 drivers that were replaced in newer KP-600's with a single K-432 driver for greater power handling. Also, the earlier KP-600's had flat magnet K-46 drivers like your drivers in question, where as newer KP-600's have the improved "Bump Back" K-46 which allows for more former excursion and better power handling. Not saying what I am going to say next is so but, I suspect your drivers in Question may be earlier versions of the K-48 ???

Please, a lot more close up of the details of your nickel plating. Did you polish and Nickle plate the pot metal corners as well ??? I have four split La Scalas and a pair of Pro Heresy slant monitors that are all getting veneered with Santos Rosewood for my daughter and I am trying to decide on redoing an exact original finish or something like a polished nickel finish with the dark wood veneer ???

    Bobby,

I don't allow my wife an opinion on my speakers! She has free rain to do anything she wants in her Kitchen. She has free rain to make any choices she wants on the bedroom. She has free choice of anything she wants in the bathroom. GDmit, I have the right to make ANY decisions I want on one room and she doesn't get ANY input !!

PS; I am having those splits veneered in Santose Rosewood veneer for a system for my Daughter. So far I have four matching split La Scalas with trim and a pair of Pro Klipsch Heresy slant monitors with trim, all to be veneered eventually in Santose Rosewood Venner for her that she picked out in person her self.  :D

I didn't change out the crossover.   The Klipsch spec sheet I have (from 2014, after the Belle was discontinued) says that the crossovers are at 450 Hz (and 4,500 Hz), the same as the Klipschorn.  Maybe it's a misprint or they were undergoing changes near the end of production?

What would be the consequences of having the crossover between the bass and the midrange too high for the K-400 (mine is actually a K-401).

Thanks for the tip on the F-20 DIYs.

    Gary,

The K-400 or K-401 La Sccala or Klipschorn Horn is capable of going down to 400 Hz. Male Vocals can also go down as low as 300 Hz. Better to handle as many of these vocals through the Midrange Squawker than the Woofer, so just make sure you have the proper La Scala or Klipschorn cross over as the Belle does not use a 400 or 401 horn as you already know. Also, the K-43E Pro La Scala has much stronger Mid Bass than the K-33E for this as well.

Hi all! I’m right outside of Nashville looking to buy a center for my heritage setup. I’ve seen people on here that have built a 3-way center with a mid and tweeter taken from either a Heresy or Cornwall donor. I’m super interested in a build like that! If not I’m looking for an academy or KV-4. I’m running Cornwall L/R and forte 2 surrounds and a KV-3 center in my 5.1setup. Right now and it sounds pretty good, but for those of us that frequent this page, pretty good ain’t gon’ cut it!

    Thanks in advance!

    Bobby,

Have you considered a single Split La Scala ? That is the best option as far as II am concerned. If a La Scala is too tall, you can set the top section dead center on top of a milk crate and set the bass bin off center to either side of the top hat since the bass is less directional. I need a single Split La Scala with trim like one of these if you are interested in splitng a pair.

Would turning the heresy on it’s side leave too narrow of a sweet spot?

No. The Cornwall was made with vertical and horizontal horn layout

How about a Heresy slant monitor?  They lay on their sides.

Slant Monitors also fit perfectly in a corner at a perfect 45 degree angle, just like Klipschorns and this increases their bass output as well.

The original Heritage center was a Heresy.  Later a Cornwall.  At some point La Scala was used, and for duty between two Klipschorns, or any two fully horn loaded (horn loaded even in the bass) LF and RF speakers, either La Scala or Belle Klipsch was recommended,  because, since they were fully horn loaded, they would have the very low Frequency Modulation distortion that the front sides had.  This was covered in one of the later Dope from Hope bulletins, and was meant for Klipsch's 3 channel Wide Stage Stereo (before home theater).

Will this be for movies, music or both?

Since you have Cornwall L & R, you could use a Cornwall center, or, for added dialog clarity a La Scala or a Belle.  Or, as you mentioned, make your own center out of donations from some Klipsch speaker. The La Scala or the Belle won't have as much bass as the Cornwall, but, you might not want that much bass in a center, because, for movies, it is largely a dialog channel.  When Berkeley Custom Electronics was helping a local Art House re-vamp it's sound, it was recommended to avoid too much bass, for dialog clarity.  So, they put in La Scalas.  I use a Belle Klipsch for a center, modified with a full length mid-horn (K401, yes, it sticks out the back, so the center is set into a wall) to match the Khorns on the sides.  On ~~ 90% of the movies, it sounds great, but for about 10%, there is too much bass.  For films with characters with cockney accidents this can be bad, the original British version of Train Spotting, I thought I'd need a translator.

    Hey Gary !!!

Both Belle and LaScala only play down to 55 Hz but they are not even working as a Horn below 100 Hz because the Horn is way to short for below 100 Hz. Cross your speakers at 100 Hz and hire Carl to build you one or a pair of F-20 DIY horn suns. Problem with dialogue instantly solved.

Also, did you change out the cross overs in your Belle's ?? The Belle Cross over crosses the midrange too high for a K-400 horn...

    That would be better.

So what are the spiked things supposed do ? Make a more solid connection to the floor ?

If so wouldn't a large piece  of something like felt let the whole bottom of the speaker sit firmly to the floor ?

    I don't know just wondering.

    Hey Eldon !!

My Velodyne HGS-18 II Subs were on shag Carpet and the X-Mas on the Cone Excursion is so much that even though they weigh 105 pounds each, I believe the boxes move some on the carpet and affected the bass very little. I put spikes on the subs to punch through the carpet and anchor my subs.  YMMV !!

If you want spikes go for it, don't know how you would use them on the speaker, just don't scratch them up.

I read somewhere that most Vipers are low-milers.  Many owners don’t drive them all that much.  I don’t know why.

As to the rear end getting loose, one time around 1998 I took my last van to the dealer for a service, and near the reception area a Viper was parked.  All the body panels had been unbolted and were just sitting or leaning on the car.  When I asked about it, I was told that its owner was doing a donut in a parking lot.  It got away from him and he hit a curb hard enough to bend the frame.

I prefer cars that just bend a rim or an A-arm when that happens.  Speaking from experience, I had a ‘71 Vette back in the late Seventies.  I thought it would be good in the Toronto winter, because it had Posi, plastic don’t rust, plus the small cabin heats up quickly.  Sure, but yes, the rear end gets loose on snow and ice, especially when it’s rolling on summer T/As.

Anyway, to get to the point, it spun out at low speed on a snowy road and the right rear wheel hit the curb.  The wheel was still straight, but the hub was bent.  I was able to drive it home, and it didn’t cost much to fix.  Those delicate cars are best left to rich guys who can afford to fix them, in my opinion.  As for me, I was on a low budget back then, and even the Corvette got to be tiresome to own, needing something fixed every month.  But that’s another story.

Danny, my best buddy Farms over 4,500 acres, has a 400,000 chicken egg farm he owns. He owns five semis, two newer 3/4 ton diesel pickups, one newer, top model Jeep Grand Cherokee, it has some word denoting the top model that lights up in the door sills, a 2020 model $50,000 Jeep with over $15,000 in aftermarket extras, a small black two seater Mercedes with convertible hard top, a 1978 Z-28 with a 496 cubic inch big block, turbo 400 and 12 bolt and the Viper. I think he can afford it... He also pushes over 100 lots of snow in the winter, play the market, his Jeeps liscense plate is "BUY PUTS" and the Vipers plate was bought by his wife and is "BD BABY" and yes, it is her name for him and means what you think. He also has three large gun safes and over $100,000 in his master bathroom, plus two cabins in the Smokies, 14 acres in the Smokies he is planning on developing into a camp grounds, a Condominium beach side on Daytona Beach and a time share at Disney World, and no, he isn't strapped at all.

  16. Considering selling two stack KP-600 project.

I have two of the high frequency Top Cabinets in Minty Condition. I have two of the middle double 15 inch bass horn cabinets in Minty condition. I have two empty and stripped KP-600 cabinets that could be made into KP-684 Bass Cabinets $2,000 for everything plus shipping or you can pick up yourself. I also have 4 K-47 woofers in minty condition I will sell for $175 each if the cabinets are bought.
