How does the F20 compare performance wise to the THT?
I'll try to find some specs, but I believe they were very close in performance.
Performance depends on the width of the THT & driver compliment.
The two cabinets are very different but if going by size only a 29" THTLS would offer a flatter response & higher efficiency.
F-20 being 60"L x 29.375"W x 20"D
29" THT being 60"L x 29"W x 18"D
On the F-20 the horn mouth is 20" wide tuned to 20 Hz
On the THT the horn mouth is 29" wide tuned to 22 Hz
You could get similar results of the F-20 with a much smaller width THT.
According to the frequency charts the F-20 will dig slightly lower but like everything else your results will be room dependent and will vary.

Is anyone else struggling with where the 12" came into the equation?
Just for a comparison and price point, nothing else.
The reason i chose to use the Dayton Classic 15" because it was the best bang for the buck.
Why is a 12" driver being compared when it's not being considered in the upgrade?
If its not being considered just disregard the comparison, i did not recall seeing a 15" driver being a prerequisite for your subwoofer.
My question is how will the 15" budget driver compare to the 15" higher quality driver in the same application? ;)
You will loose about 2 dB in maximum output using the budget driver due to less X-Max.
20 watts will drive most people out of the room, if you want extreme volume use a better driver.
-
I see what you're saying if you were to compare direct radiating designs but with these horn subs its really the horn that dictates how deep the frequency will reach and driver size along with X-max determines maximum output.
-
The Tuba HT can be loaded with a 12" or 15" driver.
-
That Dayton Classic 15" will still outperform the best 12" driver in this application and do so with less cone movement, its a good price/performance option.
-
The THT that I'm considering uses the Dayton Audio DCS380-4 driver. It's a lower end model than the suggested Dayton RSS390HF-4 driver. Have no idea how much it will effect performance.
-2dB max output.

The price of drivers is skyrocketing lately.
I know they need to raise prices a bit but 40-50% or more at a time you know there is price gouging going on somewhere in the chain.

I traded these for something many years ago and they have just been sitting around, i have too many speakers & projects as it is.

Kind of trashy looking.
I agree, probably sounds like garbage.

Went through the attic and found a set of Infinity 4000 3 way's, i think these have the good Peerless cone tweeters in them.
The woofers are shot, one needs a surround and one needs reconing.
Cabinets are Walnut one has a drink ring on top otherwise pretty decent.
$40 OBO for the pair or I'm willing to part out if someone needs parts.
If anybody is interested in any parts or the cabinets and all feel free to PM or E-mail me.

Of course somehow, someway, we survived the first 70+ years of electricity without a single "ground" on any outlet. There are still many of those old outlets in use without a ground.
My last house had only 2 plug outlets, i installed GFI's in the kitchen & bathroom using the cold water line for the ground.
Not to code but better than nothing at all.

That iron on veneer looks interesting, never saw that on anything besides edge banding.

give me an example of cheap and an example of quality if you don't mind jason.Cheap veneer & good veneer are hard to find together.Quality and type of backing material makes a difference.
Type of wood.
Free of defects.

Cheap veneer & good veneer are hard to find together.
If you're starting out on a first project Parts Express has basic veneer that's not overly expensive.
Buy quality adhesive and let all materials acclimate for at least a few days before application.

Klipsch makes lots of good stuff, never heard a Klipsch sub i liked.
I would like to hear the new horn sub to compare to other models.

Never understood why somebody would want to grill with gas.
I have owned a few Weber grilles over the years and find them very useful from the smokey joe to the full size models.
A smoker would be nice to have but it would probably not get used much so i never invested in one.
-
Double braces would be a bit excessive, one 1/2 - 5/8" brace would be plenty to keep the horn mouth from resonating.
-
Interesting Heresy mod.
Maybe you could get by without a subwoofer with this version.

Take a ride out to Simply Stereo in Hoffman Estates IL, they have the Heritage series lineup all hooked up and will cut you a decent price.
-
Your local fabric store should stock polyester batting in either sheet or loose fill.
-
If only i had the cash i would buy these in a heartbeat.
Good luck with your sale.

I gave Youthman the heads up.
You would be hard pressed to build one for that price.
