  1. I too have a worn out rotator cuff ( among other things ) from wrenching for G.M. and laboring most of my life, what i found that works is resting the shoulder. I tried the doctor recommended excersises for years and nothing helped until i stopped using it so much.

For the pain i used Vicodin when needed and good old mary jane to keep my mind off the problem and help ease the pain.

Hope surgery is not the only option for you, Get better soon.

  2. I have that Queen and the AC/DC on vinyl.

What i was wondering too is i have a Frank Sanstra, Strangers in the night still in wraps but opened with some yellowing around the open end that maybe worth something.

Not much of a Sanatra fan myself anyways, looks like it may make a nice frizbee though.

    * just checked feebay pricing, looks like another frizbee for poor folk.

  3. 7 wpc should be more than enough with either of the speakers. Many folks who claim the need for much greater power like to listen at ear damaging (in my opinion) sound pressure levels. In reality, even 1 wpc is more than enough with the Chorus or La Scala in most applications. Do you have access to a sound pressure level meter? If so, take a reading at your listening position at the loudest level that you are likely to use when listening. That will quickly allow you to determine how much power you need. Many of the people for whom I've designed and built amplifiers are amazed to find that they only need a fraction of a watt for room filling levels.

If you want room filling sound buy a bose wave radio.

7 watts will drive Chorus II's but you would be missing out where the Chorus II's really shine, lots of power & live concert sound.

Comparing LaScala's to Chorus is like comparing apples to oranges, they are 2 different animals altogether.

In my opinion if you want to run tube equipment Chorus II's may not be your best choice, look for something that sounds a little better with less power such as Cornwalls, LaScala's Khorn ETC...

  4. I could use some help building a basic 2500-3000 hz crossover for my first speaker build if somebody would be kind enough to help.

This is just a basic set of 2 way 8 ohm drivers with close sensitivity for a set of bookshelf speakers for the workshop.

    Woofer:

No tweeter purchased yet, suggestions welcome.

    Maybe one of these ?

  5. Times do change.

I'm now using the Epik Conquest subwoofer. An 18" driver in a big ported box. It's the best subwoofer that I've had, so far. It come close, but it can't keep up with Klipschorns.

Now there is the Tuba HT horn loated sub. The 36" wide one should be worth a try.

There is also Danley Labs DTS-10. A tapped horn. This one has my attention.

36" will not fit through most doors, i made the 24" version and it far exceeds anything i ever heard, even in the high end stores.

Not only loudness but quality of sound is excellent.

More than enough to easily skip your CD player, break windows, rattle rain gutters or just make you feel nauseous, but that was not what i was going for.

  6. Both my Sony ES CD players have been bulletproof since new so i would probably gravitate to the same i guess but i have not made any type of decision as of yet.

I also saw saw that pioneer and looked it over previously but the only experience i have with pioneer is car stereo goods ( head unit, amps, passive EQ ) but the price looks nice.

If the sound is above and beyond what a compact disk is able to reproduce i think its time to start having a better look around.

  7. Some of what you said sounds just like what I have heard people say about the LaScala and the Khorn, both have the same mid and tweeters. So the crossover probably does have something to do with it and also the height difference between the four speakers. ?

I have also heard a few people say they wouldn't trade there Chorus ll for anything. I have never heard the Chorus or the ll version, but there must be something special about them, I have even heard them called one of the most balanced speakers they have ever heard.

The height is very different between the two (Heresy/C-wall) but the slant riser on the Heresy III makes up for the difference so both were at ear level pretty much.

There is a big difference between the K horn & LS II's for sure ( me & pops had free reign in both listening rooms at Simply Stereo ) i always had a fancy for K horns but after auditioning both i like the LS II's much better, the bottom end feels more natural and transparent to my ears minus the lack of the deepest notes the K horn produces.

Having only one pair of Chorus II's left in the house you would have to pry them from my cold lifeless grip.

  8. The Heresy lll and the Cornwall lll has the exact same mid horn and tweeter, and all titanium, but they sound much different in the bass department.

The sound of the Cornwall is much fuller, probably from different crossover frequency and higher efficiency.

Both sound nice, don't get me wrong but i recently did an A/B comparison between the two and the sound is much different than it appears on paper.

I still would not part from my Chorus II's for either but thats just me.

  9. New: Heresy IIIs are said to sound as good as Cornwall IIIs.

    Not even close

KLF 20s/30s (used) are said to be the best rock speakers available.

Right behind a pair of Chorus II's and some good power

PS..... If you want to listen to various speaker models; there are likely forum members nearby who would love to let you audition their setups....

    Are you in/near Chicago?

My door is always open. [;)]

  10. "Yes, I was. I hadn't actually seen a frequency response curve. I liked
the relative ease of build and have a spot for a La Scala sized sub.
Do any of the Tuba builds measure well if you consider only up to 80 Hz
    (or less)? "

    "This is the (advertised) curve"

The pro sound shoot-out I posted the Tuba 24 graph from has also posted several of his other designs. None of them measure as advertised.

A tapped horn is much better than a small conventional horn. jbell has a one 4 x 8 sheet tapped horn challenge going on over at DIY audio, any of them would be preferable to a BFM design, and be easier to build. Here is a 2' cube entry:

    http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/127908-jbells-set-four-tapped-horns-41.html

The Tuba 24 sub is too small to keep up with LaScala's or better anyways
unless you are stacking multi cabnets, one of the bigger designs will
work much better for the application.

  11. Looks good should be plenty strong enough.

You know what helps with making the edges easier, edge banding, iron on, trim then paint, it's easier than trying to sand and it seems on edges it's sometimes almost impossible to hide the layers, if thats plywood.

After ironing let cool for a few minutes and your ready to go, it sticks very well and easy to work with.

    just an idea ?

The sanding is going well so far, the white on the edges is compound residue, wax or both. Another hour of work and its done, my coping saw and sandpaper is right here when i feel like working again. Time to enjoy some tunes.

Plywood & particleboard scraps were used and some pine stock all glued up with heavy duty construction adhesive.

I wanted to add my thanks for everyone's kind words on my work, i have always enjoyed building stuff when i get a chance but it was hot as hell lately so i been working nights to escape the heat as my garage has no A/C.

Everything added up to $30 worth of materials since the wood was just leftovers of other projects.

  12. Here is the semi finished cabinet, the sides and top are completed and the front is next for sanding.

Excuse the CD player dust, the old tuner was on top and i have not dusted yet + the amp hole needs to be enlarged for proper fit.
