The innovation was in how they converted it into a rock sound that was nothing like anything before it.

I did say they made it sound better than the others.  I'm thinking of start to finish, creation to production.  That's all.  No slight on their abilities/movement of the masses.

After agreeing there's a lot of great music from 1971, I diagree so strongly I don't know where to begin.   Forget labels, IMO, Led Zeppelin is in a completely higher league than Black Sabbath.  You and probably many others feel otherwise.

The diversity of opinions is part of what makes this Forum great.  Take our friend Marty, aka @thebes, who loathes the Beatles.  Of course he's mistaken, but we love him anyway.

I dread the time when reasonable people will debate the merits of various rap songs or "artists."  Generations have always panned the next generation's music, but this time we're right. ;)

But, Led Zeppelin ripped off a bunch of artists to make their music.  Granted, they made it sound better than the original tracks, but where's the innovation?  Still like their tunes though.  As an example, there's lots of them...

I have to debate with dirtmudd on the 80's cutoff.  There was plenty of good music after that.  Especially, when the 'grunge' sound hit up here.  I understand it's not for all, but still great music to lots of folks.  As far as rap, well, you know, I'm all about 50 cent, yo.

    I forgot, I don't drink coffee, I don't know if I'm allowed here......

You know your trucks! Even though she is beauty for her age its just a hauler/ bad weather truck for me. How often can you find a 15 year old truck with only 53K miles, like, never. And with the desirable LS1 engine I snapped it up from the second owner about three years ago.

You could sell it for a mint up here.  My '92 is now a classic, if you can think of that way.  25 years old and no longer has to go through the 'sniffers' of the DOT.  My ABS consists of the Kelsey/Hayes build that only pertains to the rear wheels/drums.  When it goes wrong it's not all to cheap to fix.  But, I can do anything I want to it now.  She does what she's expected to when needed.  No reason to mess with something that works.

Edit - By the way, the 5.3 is close to, thought of as, a 327.  1 liter = 61.0237 cu. in.  I had to look it up.  So, 5.3 x 61.0237 = 323 cu. in.  How 'bout them apples.

Actually mine has the 5.3, not sure but don't think they refer to it as Vortec. LS1 I' m thinkin'?

It's a Vortec/LS1 motor.  Quote from Motor Trend about the 99's:

"A structurally stiff frame with hydro-formed steel rails, standard four-wheel disc brakes with four-wheel ABS, the largest extended-rear cab area available, and a new line of powerful Vortec V-8s were just a few of the reasons the new-for-’99 Silverado captured our Truck of the Year award."

Actually, I think we're both right, it's an LS1 with Vortec heads.  Some guys do Vortec head swaps to the old TBI's like mine.  A little better breathing.

What I got today without the photos was 4 ft. of new steel brake line and 4 new shocks for my 1999 Silverado. A beauty she is with only 61K and constant offers to sell her. So all of a sudden yesterday brake pedal is to the floor, pull in the drive and a puddle is forming, brake fluid. Call my body shop buddy and general mechanical wizard and with no hesitation he says brake line has rusted away. Sure enough, right again. But being absolutely buried between frame rail and bed we opt to remove bed. Goes quickly with 1000ib. hoist I set him up with a few years ago. Splice in the new line and with easy access to rear shocks change them out. Back on lift for the two fronts began at 9a, finish at 1'ish. Not what I had planned when this began yesterday but a good ending for a rainy Saturday in KC Town. Only wish I had a new amp or something Fun but hey, a truck has gots to stop.

I've got a '92 C1500 2WD extra cab.  I had to change the brake lines due to age when I bought it.  It's got almost 150K on it now, I bought it with 138K about 9 years ago.  I don't drive it much.  But, she's got the old TBI 350 and just keeps running.  You've probably got the Vortec 350 if I'm not mistaken.  Stopping is good.  It's what I do everyday for a living.  This is the product that I peddle/service.  Cuts your rotors on vehicle and matches your rotors to the hub.  Accounts for stacked tolerance issues and let's your rig stop smoother.  Sorry, you hit a hot button.  Later.

  6. I picked up this little gem of a Marantz SR8002 yesterday for $250.  Everything works.  Much better than what I was using before.  Having a blast testing it's limits.  I know, I know, it's not McIntosh, or tubes, or more pricey stuff, but for me it's a definite upgrade.

  7. Totally off topic here but I wanted your opinion.  I found a Marantz SR 8002 on Craigslist locally that the seller says is near mint cosmetically, perfect working order.  He's asking $275.  If it is what he says I want to buy it.  It will be mainly for 2 channel, bi-amp capable, etc.  I've been watching these for awhile.  I believe it's one of the last stand alone AVR's that Marantz produced with the torodial transformer.  Thoughts?

(not only the car, but you'd be English too)

Saw this earlier too.  Dumbarse throttled it on wet roads and more than likely broke the back end lose, tried taking off like a plane, caught it on fire and melted it down.  $280,000 wasted in about an hour.  Here's your sign....

Edit - I want to help untangle the cables.  Then I could show them how to straighten.....

  9. Thing is with air pressure is that it should always be done when the tires are cold.  Period.  Try this, check your pressures when you've been driving around for awhile and set them where you want.  Then, check them again the next morning before you drive the rig.  Surprising how much difference there can be.  Tire pressures increase as the tire gets warm and the air gets agitated.  How's that for great photography?  I feel like we've invaded this post with what should be in the car guy thread.  I do like talkin' 'bout some cars 'dough!!

  10. Tragic, really.  Like going to look at a '32 Ford for a resto project and realizing that the body is too far gone to bring it back to life.  Sometimes, when they're done, they're done.  RIP KHorns.  Such a shame.  Sometimes, people just don't know what they have in front of them.  If we could only educate them all.....

It's Pro Bono work.  We appreciate the donation.  As I said before, it really is a great forum.  So many personalities, I feel for the Mod's.  Kind of like being a 'Hall Monitor' back in grade school.  Don't let the ignorant ruin the sum of it's parts.

  12. So, as a relative newbie here, have been a member since '08 but haven't 'been' a member since late last year, this year, all I can say is that the vast majority of members that I have conversed with are helpful, awnry, smart arse, quasi intellectual, funny, and informative.  Cliques, I don't see it.  Are there members that know each other well, have time amongst them, have bantered back and forth for years, sure.  But, I've jumped in on conversations with these folks and they have always 'included' me in the mix.

Do some members want nothing but high level audio geometry discussed, sure, are there others that want to discuss frying pans, absolutely, but that's what I enjoy so much about this forum.  It covers all spectrum's, but most all have one thing in common, Klipsch.  I dig hanging out in RTM on a Friday night posting my music that other's may not enjoy, and them posting what they like.  It's a fabric of audio, all backed by Klipsch.

So, I understand what DizRotus is saying, "be the bigger person", but sometimes when a troll posts a topic like 'idiots', they deserve a little heat from the kitchen.  This forum has evolved from simply audio to lifestyle all backed by the brand that presents it.  Hard to do considering most products.  Here's to the quest of audio.  Here's to Klipsch and it's forum members, may your pursuits be influenced by a man named Paul.  Enough said.

  13. I've seen this before.  They believe that there is 'noise' being generated from their neighbors appliances, etc.  Maybe their right.  But spending that kind of dough for a noise fix is just slightly extreme, especially if it's a placebo.  What I do know is the first guy has a serious vinyl collection.  How'd you like to be the neighbor of the second guy in that apartment?  No thanks.  But, in either case they're dedicated for sure.  No new clothes for 15 years??  I want to send him a package of underwear, damn.

Interesting note: Why is it we're on the Klipsch forum but the auto spelling checker highlights "Klipsch" as an unrecognized word?!

    I've wondered that myself.

Question.  If I'm not mistaken I can go in the setup and  change the db ( I BELIEVE that is the one) and the bookshelves are then turned on and static/white noise comes forth (louder than they are when playing music) from the tweeters and if i bring them (db) to negative, the white noise lowers and if I raise it, it will grow louder. I have them at 0.0 at the moment. is that alright?

and Also, I will look around and see how to change the Hz to 80.

Thank you all for your time helping me. Greatly appreciated.

The db/white noise is used for leveling the output between all of your speakers.  This helps with the overall sound field such that the audio being reproduced is arriving at the listening position at a similar intended volume level from each speaker position.  I'm not familiar with Onkyo AVR's, but would presume that the AccuEQ that you used would have set the channel gains for you.  Essentially, using the db setting just to increase overall volume is not what it's meant for, that's what the volume knob is for.

I agree with the others about speaker placement and sub crossover settings.  Run the same track over and over with different crossover points to see which one you like best.  50 definitely seems low for the combination that you have.  Pictures help a lot.  The members here are great at suggesting fixes without spending a ton of dough.

  16. Roger,

You got rid of two 'Eleanor's'????  How dare you.  I can only imagine.  Very cool.  How's the take off with the 4.40?  Something about a 427, Chevy or Ford, I want one.  Looks like you have it tuned for high speed.  The wife's first ride was a '68 Camaro.  Her Pops removed the linkage to the second set of traps on the carb.  He didn't want her to go to fast.  I wished that she would have kept it.

  17. I can handle the parking!!  For work, I had a 2006 Sprinter van and now drive a Ford (shame on me) Transit 250, full size.  I ordered it with the 3.5 ecoboost, little baby turbos off each manifold, but what a difference.  She runs 310 horse/400 lb. ft. torque, from a V6.  Longevity is in question, but so far it's been good.

James Dean met his maker with one that was kind of like this one.  My wife loved it.  She's kind of a Porsche gal.  We went to the Car d'Alene, in Couer d'Alene, ID this year and I taught my ladies what a 'gasser' is.  They're so cool.

    Aaron,

A buddie of mine restored a Cadilac Convertible with tail fins just like that. I think it was a 53, but I am no Cadillac professor. I do however know that it was a prototype car for that year thatshould have been crushed as the console and many parts were hand made before actual building of the cars happened. It was a Red car  ;)

Nice.  They're definitely not for the go fast guys, cruisers for sure.  But, a little LS3/trans, dropped a couple of inches, right wheel/tire combo, audio with tweets front and rear, 6.5's as well, with two 12's in her backside and I could drive it endlessly.

    Aaron,

Sounds like a good time Arron, and yes, I am very much a gear head both cars and Audio  ;) Thank God I haven't done permanent damage to my discs yet, although I am not very sure as to how I haven't died yet let alone waste or bulge a disc!

    Rog

I've got three bulged in the low back.  Sports, car wrecks, stupid lifting, etc. brought them about.  They don't bother me much.  Main thing is with back issues is to keep moving.  Go dormant and the problems get worse.  As to cars, I want one of these in the worst way.

I will tell you what, a 32 inch or 35 inch tube is heavy, but that 40 incher seperates the men from the boys when it is time to hurt your back and carry it!

    Rog

Who needs nice vertebrae anyway?  Hey, you appear to be a gear head.  I was just telling my ladies that I'll be at SEMA this year with my new position.  The killer part is that it will run on Halloween night.  Couple of my counterparts said it's nuts when this has happened before.  I can't wait, photos will be a must.

  21. I had a 32" Panasonic that had a great picture.  Had moved it to the basement for some painting and killed it on the way back up.  I picked it up with the screen facing away from me and completely crushed the back end of the TV.  The wife was not happy.
