  1. Seriously think that something is amiss here, do you have an extremely large room? What is the voltage you are pushing to the THT (test with AC multimeter at amplifier speaker connections) Ask and you shall receive: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10753603#post10753603 Also on the same thread they measure the Oaudio 500 watt plate amplifier which stacked up as one of the best budget plate amplifiers out there. If you're honestly wondering if the Behringer amplifier is a good one or not, just trust those recommending it. It is dollar for dollar the king of DIY subwoofer amplifiers, and with an easy fan mod it is virtually silent. SO many of us DIY'ers use it as a sub amp and unless you somehow get a lemon, the amplifier is a trooper and takes a lot of abuse. For clarification, the behringer ep2500 is the same amplifier as the behringer ep4000.
  2. If you are using the recommended dayton DVC driver in the plans then you will be fine without a high pass filter, you're fine as long as you aren't feeding the sub over 200 watts, and most people never even push 100 watts to their THT. I've been runing mine for quite a while now, haven't used a high pass filter since I had to get rid of the faulty Dayton SA1000. I'm glad I got the Behringer EP2500 and did the fan mod. I will be adding another THT in the future and will love having the flexibility to do so without changing amplification.
  3. I think its cool that we can give feedback, I'll be doing the download tomorrow night.
  4. I found the issue, you have to reboot and force download during the night on fridays or saturdays during certain times, so that is the key information that wasn't given previously in this thread.
  5. Did the reboot, it downloaded new software, still no Pandora.
  6. I don't have the update yet, I guess I'll be anxiously waiting!
  7. Does anyone know how to force and update on Directv? I know there is a way, just can't figure it out. I don't see pandora.
  8. May I suggest simply going with three of the Dayton apa-150's for the front three. awesome mono blocks, I highly recommend them, and for the price they are very hard to beat.
  9. How far from the Mains is your seating position?
  10. I don't think so. It's a weakness between highly efficient speakers and the receivers ability to cut the gain. The software uses the sub tone to get the sub to 75 db. Then it raises or lowers (with Klipsch it lowers) the gain to match. Since the receiver will trim a maximum of 12 db and the speakers are running at ~ 93 db in the neutral position, the receiver can't bring the gain low enough to match so it bottoms out at about 79 db. The way to fix this is to set your sub to 85 db during the test tone sequence. Audyssey will then trim your speakers to match at 85 without bottoming out. Then your "Reference level" is set to -10 instead of zero. After reading through your post again I think I now realize what you're saying. That at 0 DB the receiver is unable to trim the speakers back far enough to get down to 75 DB. I guess we're not saying the same thing. With external amplifiers this would be no problem with this, it would just be a matter of setting amplifier gain knobs low to help Audyssey in trimming the gain.
  11. We're saying the same thing, with a more powerful subwoofer there would be no problem. what I've learned of Audyssey is that it lowers all gain levels to the weakest component in the system, so since the subwoofer is no where near as sensitive as the main speakers with its amplifier gain knob set at 50%, then crank up the subwoofer gain knob so that Audyssey doesn't have to cut back the gain on the main speakers so much. Or just use Audyssey as is, then use a DB meter to set gain settings to whatever reference level you want.
  12. Audyssey is simply exposing the weak point in your system, which evidently is your subwoofer. Simply set the subwoofer amplifier gain higher, simple solution.
  13. The one that kicks all their collective booties for the least money is the Tapped Horn sub using an Eminence LAB12 woofer. For about $175 driver and hardware cost with $100 worth of Oak Plywood, you can build your own. It will outperform any type of sealed or vented box. Or build a Spud Tapped Horn if you want a smaller box for about the same cost. And if you want even less distortion, go with the tuba ht. Trade offs in every design though.

  15. I think it's hilarious, beyond a little extra shielding it is completely pointless, to go through all the trouble of massive power cables only to then have the power go through the bottle neck of a few tiny fuses on the interior of our audio equipment...LOL!!! Its like sticking your finger in a small hole that is leaking in the bottom of your boat, while water is cascading in from massive holes at either end of the boat. Only fixing one small part of the problem doesn't even begin to fix the whole large problem.
  16. I must say, that for the price the rsw is not going to be the best for your money, unless you get it for dirt cheap. As far as matching sonically, not really an issue since the frequencies a subwoofer produces most often are not being produced by the other speakers in your system, so there is no sonic matching needed. just wanted to make sure a voice of reason is being heard, the rsw is not a bad sub, just not as good as other current options.
  17. How much was the ikea kit?, can you control the brightness as well?
  18. At least Snell is being closer to honest about the output of the amplifier than what Dayton was rating it at. Dayton was rating there's at 1000 Watts, which is double what it tests at-500 Watts.
  19. Why not just get a behringer 2500 for less and get so much more power, just do a simple quiet fan replacement.
  20. I love my THT, plenty of clean output. Am I the only one that doesn't adjust my subwoofer once matched with Mains? Once I calibrate to 90 DB reference I don't adjust the sub level for music or movies. I know that one issue some of us have is trying to reach a flat bass response in room , even after auto calibration. Use of tactile transducers can help with that problem, they can make the perceived bass response seem much more flat.
  21. You could get 2 passive captivators and power then with a behringer 2500, awesome bass!
  22. Sell the Klipsch subs and get a couple jtr captivators. They come very highly regarded.
  23. The qsc's effectively fill the roll I wanted them to- sledge hammers covered in velvet. I always wanted powered horns with enough headroom to never worry about distortion/compression. I wanted authoritative speakers to slap you in the face but also be able to soothe with definition at low volumes. The qsc's accomplish these goals with ease. the qsc kw122's are basically industrial Klipsch speakers with perfectly matched amplifiers and a six year warranty, Hard to beat. I also wanted speakers that had an industrial finish that could take some abuse but not show it. It is unfair to compare the klf's to the qsc's, since they are completely different animals, but the qsc's do have more surprising dynamics than what my stock klf's had.
  24. The onlly difference between the two are that the KLF-30 is more efficient with the larger woofers and that it has a little more low end authority, the mid and high horns are exactly the same. So yes, the 20's and 30's will work well and to some ears it is hard to even tell the two apart.
  25. Well as some of you know a lot has gone on in the last couple of months for me, bought a house on a short sale deal (fixer upper) and have gone from KLF-30's to Powered QSC KW-122's for my main speakers in my 3.1 home theater. Once we knock out the wall to extend the living room/home theater room I will get the RSX-5's up to complete the 7.1 system. So here are some pics to show you the evolution of the 3.1 Please excuse some of the wire mess, things have been so in flux lately I have not had time to recover and get things tidy yet.
