  1. What a great thread! I originally bought a 65" Mitsubishi HDTV on clearance from Best Buy in the summer of 2007 and soon realized that some surround sound would really enhance my tv watching and video game playing, so I scoured craigslist and bought some JBL speakers with stands and a receiver, my first home theater setup. I discovered that I loved home theater and it has been a hobby since then, so much so that I decided to work at Best Buy for the holiday season last Christmas, and to my surprise they had great employee pricing on Klipsch stuff, so I researched and after reading this forum I was hooked even before hearing the speakers. I thought they offered that employee pricing so we would sell more klipsch stuff, which I did, but klipsch will undoubtedly make more money off of me even though I don't have my discount anymore. I thought I was set with my rf 82s but now I am already looking for a great deal on the rf 63s or 83s, as well as the rc 64. The madness is just getting started...
  2. Looking good Youthman! Do you have any plans to ever utilize the extra "presence" speakers that your Yamaha receiver is capable of. It looks like you have a great setup to put in a couple of in wall speakers up front if you ever wanted. I'm dubious of the actual audio enhancement they provide but I still want to get mine set up at some point.
  3. I have a Panasonic dmp-bd55 for blu-ray and an HD-A3 for HD-DVD and I can definitely say that blu-ray sounds better for a couple reasons. First, almost all blu-rays are encoded in some sort of lossless audio (either Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio) while not that many HDDVDs are after looking back at my collection. The other reason blu-ray may sound better is the quality of the player itself, as there are a lot of great blu-ray player options that are finally becoming affordable. However, the jump from HD-DVD to blu-ray audio quality is not nearly as big as the leap from DVD to HD-DVD is.
  4. Hi all, I'm also looking (not too aggressively yet) to upgrade my RF-82s and use them for sides. My question is, how great is the improvement between the 82 and the 63, but also the 63 and the 83, and how much more would you pay for 83s vs 63s. I guess the better question would be "do you think I will regret not spending the extra dough on the 83s?"
  5. I have the RX-V1900 and I have been very happy with it. I don't listen to much music with it but for HT it always has plenty of power and has a very dynamic sound. The only problem/annoyance I have ever run into is that the volume isn't displayed on the TV when using an HDMI input, but only a little bar on the receiver itself, but it is my understanding that this isn't the case on the 3900.
  6. That emotiva amp looks great, youthman, let us know if/when you do end up getting it. I am going to shop around and see if there are any good used 3 channel amps but may end up with that one as well. As far as going up to 7.1 I think that will take a backseat to the amplifier. I think my tentative plan is to upgrade the fronts and use the 82s as the side surrounds, I'll make the room. Got a nice look from the girlfriend when I told her I was going to use them as side surrounds, though
  7. Thanks for the responses guys, I guess it's time to start researching some amps as my first priority. Probably going with a 3 channel from what I've looked at but who knows what deals will pop up. I just wasn't expecting them to be so expensive, because I want a good one to go with my future RF63s or 83s and future RC64. And in the meantime I will try to stockpile a few extra dollars and keep an eye out for that klipsch deal that I just can't resist. Anyone else not that impressed with the jump from 5.1 to 7.1??
  8. Well for now I am in an apartment (can't get it too loud after 9) but my girlfriend and I are probably moving into a mother-in-law apartment off a house that my friends are living in, and the room is quite big, and we'll be able to really turn it up! Eventually I'll have a nice theater room but since I have a 7.1 receiver now, I might as well add onto it sooner rather than later. I was thinking about a 3 channel amp eventually since my receiver has more than enough power to drive the remaining speakers and they aren't as important as the front 3 anyway. So many possibilities of things to buy!
  9. I've had my all klipsch setup for about 3 months or so, and it is great. I've lasted this long, but now I think I'm getting hit by that upgrade bug you guys all talk about. Currently I am running a 5.1 system with RF82 fronts, an RC62 center, RB61 surrounds and an RW12D subwoofer. It's all driven by a yamaha RX-V1900, which does 7.1 and even allows a couple extra speakers to get hooked up above the front speakers (presence speakers). Completely unnecessary...yeah, and I love it so I'll get those way down the road, but now I'm mainly trying to figure out what to do with my current speakers and how to best upgrade to 7.1. I could keep everything the same and get some RS52s for side surrounds and shift the RB61s back, or upgrade the fronts to 63s or 83s and shift the 82s to the side. I'm fairly new to this and am curious what some more experienced klipsch fans suggest. Also, what do you guys think about amplifiers, do they add enough improvement to justify the cost. This upgrade bug could end up costing me a bit over the next couple years...
