  1. I have the following thread saved for reworking cabinets. THX Marshall. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/109693.aspx?PageIndex=1 Sorry, I'll eventually figure out how to post clickable URL's. Maybe. It may not apply to your situation, but I'll bet there are parts you can use. Randall
  2. Hope you still have the phone booth squirreled away somewhere. They are worth megabucks today.
  3. Michael, Depending on how much listening you do on the Technics here's my choices. If you're considering the Grado Green, I'd through in another 20 or so bucks and go for a Shure M97xE. It's a great cartridge for the money and the sweetness only improves after about 50 hours. My other choice is more in line with what you're replacing, a Stanton 681EEE MKIII. It's about twice the price of the Shure and on a scale of diminishing return, the Shure will give you the most bang for the buck. ALTHOUGH, if another 75 or 80 dollars isn't a problem, I REALLY like the sound of the Stanton. But I also REALLY like the way the Shure sounds too. I'm not a cartridge expert by any means, but I have owned the Shure and listened to the Stanton for quite a few hours(both have a very sweet sound). Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. Randall
  4. Alex, Took me a while to find it, but here is a great little book on tubes. May not be what you're looking for, but it's a wealth of information. RCA Radiotron Manual....1929 The pdf download is near the top of the page. Enjoy Randall http://www.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/~reese/RC-10.html/ Edit: Maybe I'll learn how to make a clickable link someday.
  5. ekarlw I have a set of '84 Heresy 1's. I was reluctant at first to go with recapping the crossovers because it seems that most folks on the forum have a lack of bass on their Heresies while mine sounded great as far as the lower, mid, and upper end was concerned. After talking to BEC though, I went ahead and ordered a set. BTW, Bob is one of the most down to earth folks I've ever spoken to. After installing, I was kinda dissapointed with the sound compared to what I had been listening to and thought about reinstalling the old caps. BUT, I decided I would give the caps a chance to break in. Long story short...after about 40 or 50 hours, I have no regrets. And as far as the bass is concerned , I still don't get the opinion that the lower end is lacking. Maybe I need to listen to a pair of of higher priced heritages to see what the deal is. I am however driving them with a Sansui G8000 or a G5700 which seems( from what I've read, to be very friendly to Heresies on the lower end ). I have no "seal" on the back, but may install a set soon. Meanwhile, I am happily rocking out. Enjoy, Randall
  6. We're very close on our setup. I run my H1's with a Sansui G-8000 and swap out to a G-5700 sometimes. I use an Oppo DV-980H for SACD's. The Oppo is used more for music than DVD's. I feel you would probably have to spend around 5X the money to get a better SACD player. And yes, Sansui and Klipsch is a marriage made in heaven. Or maybe Hope Ark. JW
  7. FWIW, I have a pair of H1's which were made about July of '84. When I recapped them, I asked Bob Crites(what a gentleman) about the difference in my drivers and what is usually in an H1. He told me that Klipsh was probably phasing in the drivers for the HII's and I got some. That being said, when I recapped, I took down the readings across all the drivers. Here's mine... K-77 8 ohms, K-53-K 12 ohms, K-22-K 8 ohms K-77 9 ohms, K-53-K 14 ohms, K-22-K 10 ohms I don't know if these reading are out of spec. or not. I DO know they are in spec. to my ears. Greetings all, I believe this is my first post. Although I am very familiar with this forum, having been an avid lurker and reader. Running the H's off a Sansui G-8000 and sometimes a G-5700 (yeah I'm queer for Sansui). JW
