Hi, I'm moving out of my parents home where I have a pair of cornwalls, which i love and adore dearly. Me and some of the guys im in a band with are going to be renting a house and I wanted to keep that heritage sound, so i bought a pair of heresy I's off craigslist for a reasonable $275, the seller threw in a free pioneer sx 790 solid state receiver for free ( ). Cornwalls would be too big for the new house (not too big for me though). However after setting the new speakers and amp up, I'm left craving that fullness I get with the Cornwalls. So I set up the extra promedia amp i have lying around. It fills in the bass at low listening levels, but if i turn the volume up to even moderate levels, the promedia just cant keep up. My goal is to get a subwoofer that will compliment the heresys nicely, blending in with out being too boomy, something musical, and something in the $200-300 range. Ive been looking at the Klipsch rw12d, sub 10, and sub 12 (ive pretty much only bought klipsch speakers since I got my promedias back in college). Im not really sure how those compare with other subwoofers in that price range though. Any one have any experience with matching up a subwoofer with a pair of heresys?

When I bought my heresys off Craigslist the guy gave me a free pioneer solid state receiver. What it has that my old tube amp doesn't is an output for two pairs of speakers instead of just one. I have Cornwalls also and I'm trying to figure out where to put the speakers. I first tried them with the Cornwalls to the left and right and the heresys as left center and right center and tilted back so they point to ear level. To me it sounded like a wall of sound it was awesome. Right now I have the heresys on top of the Cornwalls and tilted down so they face ear level. I thought it might sound cooler like you're at a concert with the speakers hanging from the ceiling or whatever but it sounds more like the heresys lose their power when they're that high in the air. Maybe cause the bass has no ground to roll on? Anyway I'm sure there are lots of possible arrangements , but has anyone messed around with this sort of set up and found out any arrangements that work well? I'm in the mood for experimenting. A couple other things. The amp lets you pick speakers a or b or both and it also has a watt usage meter. I'm curious why when i play sound through either a or b speakers and then turn both pairs on at the same time the watt meter stays the same, but the volume of two pairs of speakers is so much greater and the pair that's originally stays at the same volume too. Also the heresys sound a little bit quieter than the Cornwalls when both pairs are playing at the same time. Is that cause the Cornwalls are more efficient? How is that so, since the Cornwalls have larger bass woofers. Is it the crossover? Just curious.

I was at a flea market this morning and a guy was selling a marantz 3300 preamp for $45. I dont know how well it functioned, but visually it looked to be in very clean and great shape. I didn't know exactly what the 3300 was for when I first saw it (I'm not sure what a pre amp is for exactly. My pioneer receiver seems to have no problem powering my Cornwalls n heresys to ridiculous volumes.) anyway I told him I would think about it and come back as I was doing some research on it on my iPhone. I couldn't really find a whole lot of info on it, but I decided I would pick it up anyway since I know marantz is a pretty good brand. However, within the five minutes I spent thinking about it someone else bought it. I'm just wondering if I missed out on a steal and I'm looking to learn what you would actually use the 3300 for.

next to papa cornwall The serial numbers are 43R655 and 43R855. so theyre from 1977, i cant tell what the other numbers stand for.

So I ended up getting them for $275. And he threw in an older pioneer solid state amp for free. They're not consecutive serial number but they sound great.

I see a pair of heresy ii's for sale. The guy is asking $300. He said the veneer is in decent with some wear and a few small scratches. He said the numbers are not consecutive, but I'm not sure if he definitely knows for sure. The speakers and grills are in good shape, original crossovers. And he's moving tomorrow, I'm not sure how badly he wants to sell them cause he said he would throw them into storage if he doesn't get the right price. I do have a pair of Cornwalls already, I'm just curious about the heresys and would use them if I ever plan to move out to my own place. Think $300 is a good price in that condition?

Hmm yeah I don't have that kind of money, nor do I have a degree in electrical engineering. I guess I'm just looking for a quality mid range tube amp, kind of like how the Cornwall compares to the klipschorn. $600 vs $3000 or whatever. I'm looking for the equivalent in a tube amp.

I dont listen to any jazz or classical, but i still love the cornwalls.

jesus well, i already have an OK tube amp. its an old pioneer sx-34B receiver. i read that it uses 4x 6BM8 tubes and puts out 8watts pre channel. Dont really know a whole lot about it. all i know is that it hums and hisses and crackles and pops. its pretty noisy at times, if i play around with the nobs a little the noise goes away for a little while, but always comes back. It wasnt so bad with my old speakers, but now that i have cornwalls, its much more apparent as they dont hide much. So i thought it was time to start looking for a "new" tube amp, since i believe my current amp is the weakest link in my set up. i dont want to leave the completely analog sound. I spin vinyl and i love the warmth and smoothness analog sound has to offer, plus it more fun. A cheaper, i guess, alternative would be to try and fix the pioneer amp i have. I just dont know if its the tubes that need replacing, or its the electronics or what. Im looking to upgrade my amp. How much do these usually go for? Theres a local pair on craigslist for $1,600. i see people online saying theyre "legendary" amps and that people use them for bi amping. What is there to know about bi amping? ive heard of people blowing speakers trying to do it.

I have a pair of cornwall I's. U have a cheap old tube amp, and a technics turntable. I use it mainly for vinyl, or my ipod. I listen mainly to indie rock. Im 23 its what most college kids who are into music are into. some bands i listen to... Radio dept., Junip, Shout out louds, sigur ros. I really recommend sigur ros, its the kind beautiful music that anybody can appreciate. sounds amazing through the cornwalls too

hmm. i cant seem to find the how to page on crites website. if someone could post the link that would be awesome. and i think i will go ahead and try to do it myself. im in no real rush and i would take the time to practice before i actually do it. im not a complete idiot and im pretty handy. i feel like i could learn the soldering pretty quickly from the vids ive seen on youtube. i just dont know where all the parts would need to go and how to get the old ones out etc. its not really the soldering im worried about cause i can learn that, its the actual crossover, it just looks like a bunch of wires and stuff to me right now.

I want to get new caps for my cornwalls since theyve never been replaced. there are a couple options, one buy the caps only kit and solder them myself ($), or send my crossovers to them and theyll replace them for me ($$), or three buy completely new crossovers ($$$). I was hoping to do option #1. the thing is, ive never soldered anything before. true. but these arent brand new l300's selling for $2,500 either. theyre both vintage 70's. theres this jbl nut on youtube... he posted a video of a pair of l300's and i asked "these are comparable to the klipsch cornwall?" and he replied, "I think not" i had a feeling he was going to say that.

Ok I'll keep an eye out for that. Any idea if the l40 is a decentspeakers? I've heard people on various forums that it's the cheapest vintage jbl that has the jbl sound. Plu it the only jbl that beenon sale localy on Craigslist for months. The guy is asking $175. Is that a bad deal? I know the don't compare to the Cornwalls but I could also use some bookshelf speakers to replace the jvc bookshelf speakers I use in my room.
