  1. I've called the parts dept 3 or 4 times and was always impressed with the friendliness and helpful attitude of the people I talked to. One of the better outfits to deal with, I think...
  2. The most important, or at least one of the most important is to get whatever antenna you use UP high off the ground as possible. Even the best stick out there will not help you if the signals sail over its head. I dont know what methods you may have at your disposal to mount your antenna, but putting it up high and making it secure and away from possible tangles with electric lines is a must. I use a Marantz 2275 or 2325 most of the time for FM and I can tell a huge difference just going from the ground floor to the second floor of the house using the simple dipole that comes with most tuners! I live in a metro area but aim for a station about 50 miles out, so am battling multipath and adjacent channel interference, too.
  3. Im also interested in responses to this question. I currently am running Forte II's, driven by one of several Marantz vintage receiver / amps, and RB81's, same electronics. I wouldn't be replacing the Forte II's, just adding a system, essentially. Good, tight bass WITHOUT using a sub is one REQUIREMENT....a center channel wouldn't be out of the question, and am interested in exploring that as a separate issue......(that would probably be designed/built by me, or using one RB81, unless someone has a NIB Academy laying about somewhere, lol.....
  4. Hey! I still use that old fashioned 50lb monster!! [Y] But I don't keep it next to the dumpster.....
  5. Very similar to what happened to me in December. I purchased another set of Forte II's to augment my pair that I have had since new in 1993. Supposed to be in mint condition. Seller in CA did a terrible job packing, and, of course they incurred damage. Among other things, one of the midrange horns was broken in the middle- the back half with its driver rattling around in the cabinet. Fortunately, Noah was parting out a Forte II and fixed me up with a used horn- they are now singing just like they should. I will deal with the cabinet soon enough- will be re-veneered, and I got the seller to reimburse me for the damage. But I wouldn't want to go through that again.....
  6. I purchased another pair of Forte II's via ebay. They arrived with cabinet damage, which I can fix, but there was something rattling around within the cabinet of one of them. It was the broken off half of the midrange horn! Apparently with the rough handling (and cold temperatures) it broke away from the front half, which is still mounted to the motorboard. Anyway, I obviously need, at the least, the horn portion. Does anyone know if Klipsch sells these? If not, what would a suitable replacement be? Thanks, everyone!
  7. Thats a seriously good price for a 2325 Marantz. The best examples are going for 2,3, or 4 times that, and well worth it! I have one of the last 2325's that was made (in 1977) driving my Forte II's. Way more power than they need, of course, but the sound is so sweet! The 2275 has similar characteristics, if you don't need as much power. In fact, the tuner sections are identical. And I agree - my favorite source is an Akai GX-747 open reel deck, playing recordings of either CD or vinyl...
