  1. I bought a Sony XBR TV in 1994 for north of $3500. It worked well for many years and I enjoyed it. Had one repair which cost $600. Lasted a few more years. TV's now are disposable and the quality of the top brands are comparable. I personally don't trust that any of them will be trouble free after a couple of years of ownership and would not even think of repairing. To me the quality of many of the brands recommended here will be very comparable in video quality. For example, the Vizio and the Sony that I have now are of very comparable quality, just slightly different. The Vizio cost 2/3's a comparable Sony. I decided to spend $900 on the Vizio rather than $1300 on a Sony. I didn't mind spending the money, the Vizio just satisfied my requirements. And I always buy exactly what I want but expect to get what I pay for. Buy what you want and be happy with it. There's nothing worse than buying and paying for something you didn't really want. Keith
  2. My wife has had a Honda (4 cyl ) for 28 months. It has 4,300 miles. Garaged and driven locally every day. The salesman told me to change the synthetic oil every 10,000 miles. I told him I would see him in 5 years. He said in that case change it once a year. I'm wondering what effect frequent short trips has on synthetic oil as opposed to organic oil? Keith
  3. Is that where you put the oil change sticker? Inside the wheel Keith
  4. Where does this oily stuff go that you speak of go?
  5. What seriously shocked me was that the inactive voter ahead of me was of minority status. Keith
  6. I try to spread my weak humor wherever I go. The wife don't pay any attention to me anymore. Keith
  7. Heck yes. The beginning of the end of Political Advertising. Back to the regular old Fake News in a few days. Keith
  8. I drove to the local church earlier to cast my/our vote. As we were walking thru the parking lot I noticed several people about 100 feet from the entrance to the church sanctuary. A lady pointed to a candidates sign and said 'don't forget to vote for' when I interrupted her saying ' I don't have time to talk I've got to get in there and stop that Caravan'. We laughed while my wife shook her head. At the door a guy walked in ahead of us and we followed him to a table. I overheard the poll worker tell the guy that he was an inactive voter and sent him to another table to fill out paperwork. I asked the poll worker if I had overheard her correctly, that the guy ahead of us was an attractive voter. She said no he's an inactive voter. We got our ballots and sat down. As I instructed my wife how I thought she should vote, she balked. I promised to later take her to eat BBQ if she would listen to my suggestions. We finished and left the building. Passing the same campaigning lady/sign outside I asked her if she had heard the announcement. She said no. I told her that after inserting our ballots into the machine and exiting out of the sanctuary doors there was an announcement that the Caravan had just stopped and turned around. The BBQ was good. For informational purposes: I carried my pre-existing condition from private insurance to Medicare. Contractual cost paid for a single IV drug by private insurer $11,994.00. Medicare pays $9615.00. If my math is correct Medicare pays 20% less for same treatment. YMMV Keith

I can't speak to every case Bosco but I can speak to one case that I know of personally. I've known this person for over 40 years doing only what was required of them, contributing as little as this person could get away with. This person experienced pain for months before learning they had a terminal disease. This person has received care duplicative of their contribution. This person may get the care they need eventually, if they live long enough. Keith

That 'term limits' law is about to come into effect. Go Tuesday to your friendly polling place and vote for anyone other than an incumbent, thereby limiting incumbents term.

There has been talk in the past from our representatives to lower the cost of prescription medicines. Talk of a secretive NEW health plan. Nothing has happened. What kind of a fool votes for liars that care nothing about their well being?

I had 2 prescriptions refilled the other day. I refill both every 30 days. Both refills totaled $478. Cost in Canada for both is less than 1/4 that.

I know very little about disability but I did retire after 36 years of working for a Class I railroad. Two guys I worked with worked decades before going on disability. One of them the employer disqualified after they found out he had cancer. His healthcare was provided until he reached age 65. Another was injured at work an he was disabled. Again his health insurance was paid by the carrier. The were others that I knew of that were either disabled or disqualified but I don't know the details of their experiences. Maybe healthcare is negotiated in a settlement. I don't know about all cases. Keith

Did you have employer provided health insurance and if so did they not continue to provide it when you qualified for disability? Keith
  18. hmmm... Sounds like a conspiracy. Seems it would be advantageous to be a "Big Name program" in that case. Getting there would require a team to be competitive, to excel. Keith

Overall, it probably wouldn't help. Apples would then cost around $8 a piece thereby not keeping the doctor away.

The perfect storm. No pensions, low wages, reduced Social Security, unaffordable healthcare and work until you're 70. Go to the magic box in your neighborhood on Tuesday and change your future. Or suffer the consequences. Keith

Generally as you get older the need for healthcare increases. When you get there you will have the option to buy insurance in a "High Risk Pool" (death panel). The only problem is that most will be unable to afford this high risk insurance. Go vote on Tuesday. Keith

"Insurance pooling is a practice wherein a group of small firms join together to secure better insurance rates and coverage plans by virtue of their increased buying power as a block. This practice is primarily used for securing health and disability insurance coverage." Keith
