  1. over on head-fi.org they average about $250 ..sometimes they have a recable, balanced connections, etc ..all of which affects the price, besides overall condition.
  2. how picky is it? I just purchased a used one that doesn't include the calibration mic, but it looks like my marantz audyssey mic will mechanically work. I know that these mic's are manufacturer specific, as it pertains to the unique implementations of audyssey ..but will it matter for this sub?
  3. nothing specific, but i asked for action/visually&audibly stunning blu-rays. stuff like the fall, the fountain, bad boys II, etc.
  4. when can i come down from mckinney and experience this?
  5. wuzz .. i picked up a used carver m1.0-t on a whim to drive my mains and couldn't be happier. it's conservatively rated at 200wpc, but in actuality drives closer to 300wpc. They're older, so reliability is a potential issue, but it plays quite nicely with my marantz (and I'm on the waiting list to have it mk II'd next summer).
  6. this hasn't gone away. I needed to refocus some efforts over the last couple weeks, which has precluded me from buying the bulk materials. stay tuned for updates.
  7. agreed. i love my 8001 and the only thing that will cause me to change in the future is hdmi support (once they finally settle on some standards)
  8. yah, he has some weird fetish with licking those bricks. crazy pup..
  9. crappy iphone pic ..but here's the completed pit. the bowl was from a $50 target special i bought about 3 years ago. the rotiss motor and spit came with my grill .. support arms were from an old ikea coffee table. all i had to buy was the pavers, some sand and quickcrete, the threaded rods, and a spray paint. of course ..had to test out a chicken before throwing on the leg of lamb for thursday. :)
  10. i don't brine, but i do smoke it. i use a pan filled with apple sauce ..the cheaper and more sugar-filled the better. then i do a light smoke of apple wood at the beginning and a heavy smoke of apple wood about 30 mins before i pull it off. juicy, tender, and a sweet flavor to it... i'll also be doing a leg of lamb on the rotiss over wood pit. mmm.
  11. not sure i understand? poking fun at the size of the mirror or actual sound reflections due to the position of everything?
  12. got the final figures and I'm only going to have enough to dump into my photography gear (new laptop, darn) ..but this has given me some direction on where i should focus my efforts. thanks guys!
  13. Mee missess my prrecioussss. Who was this evil mann that sold my prreciousss? He makes a mistake!!! Tell my prreciousss him's sorry!!! hehehehe ..i certainly don't have buyers remorse.
  14. i don't want to pay what klipsch is asking for them (no offense to the klipsch gods). and thank you carl ...that room could hugely benefit from some sound treatments, but i just don't see any feasible way of making that happen. your home was extremely warm and inviting for a complete stranger ..no complaints on this end.
  15. in case i grow impatient trying to find a pair of 5's/7's ..what is the closest relative to my 5's in the new reference line-up? lots of previous posts have conflicting information. 82's? 62's?
  16. I'd stop by if traveling thru but have to stick close by work. Thanks for the invite, I know several dozen folks up in that neck of the woods I could send over for free food but nah, the ankle monitors might annoy the wife Ya'll come on by if you get to Padre Island. ha, no worries. and we will most certainly do so if ever in that neck of the woods.
  17. i use an APC pdu meant for server cages. not sure what, if any, filtering it performs ..but if it's good enough for 5U servers, it's good enough for me.
  18. which reminds me ...if there's someone in DFW (or further if you want to drive) that doesn't have some family or friends to spend Thanksgiving with, you're more than welcome to join my wife and I for some mellow festivities and good food. both sets of parents are local, but are traveling out of state to visit grandparents and we chose to stay home. plenty of room, cigars, food, and music to audition. shoot me a pm if you're interested..
  19. you too carl, safe travels! btw ..i finally took some pictures of your babies; see them here: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/126853.aspx
  20. i'm taking off the 20th-30th and as such, am a complete wasteoid today. big plans for the week include: building a wood burning grill pit w/rotiss, stripping down my gas grill and painting the faded black accessory pieces with truck bed liner (more weather resistant and a nice texture contrast to the stainless steel), shooting stock photos for a local college website, and then a day of turkey smoking and leg-o-lamb roasting (on the aforementioned pit). i also need to squeeze in some demo cable making and a bunch of sleep happy holidays!
  21. thanks guys after bach'ing it up for quite a few years, I definitely developed my own sense of style. i was very fortunate to find a woman with similar tastes ..and willing to put up with my crap that big speaker in the middle is one of my proudest achievements in the world of repurposing. it was a hideous turntable console that i picked up from the curb. gutted it, cut out the entire front, and built a mini flexy-stand inside. repainted and built a grill out of peg board and speaker fabric ..holds all my components wonderfully. i'll snap another pic later with the front off to show the components.
  22. thank you ...my wife and i have spent our first year of marriage trying to make it exactly that, a warm and inviting home. she's been very accommodating when it comes to my speakers. thanks for the feedback and suggestions xki. fortunately, we're renting from a friend who's in London on a work/travel visa so I'm not stuck with this layout for the next 30 years. i'll probably keep my eyes open for a pair of rf-5/7's and play speaker shuffle from there. if you're going to do it, do it big right?
  23. are talking about the actual small walls that are angled or my lens distortion? that tokina 11-16mm easily distorts when tilted off-axis. it is definitely a wide open space and we've done what we can to help bring it in a little and not feel so cavernous (nice tall ceilings too). and it's 12ft from seat to screen
  24. about 10 ft on either side. left is occupied by a window and the right is a hallway with heavy traffic and hardwood floors.. this is quite possibly the worst living room ever designed by an architect..
