  1. I really enjoyed the wireless DOLBY ATMO compatible powered speaker demo... very impressive. The museum displays were excellent and I got a handfull of the "Bullsh$t" buttons. This was the best CES display that Klipsch ever put on!
  2. Alex, are these still available? How far are you from Mount Verde, FL?
  3. Would you be interested in a unmolested 2270 instead?
  4. There ya go, the prices for that Border Patrol stuff is just plain silly.
  5. Nice. Where do I know that name from? I like the collection and the bandpass bass cAbinets is neat. Is that a store picture or he actually has all these horn types
  6. After some deliberation, I have decided to go with a new pair of stamped woofers from Bob Crites. Thanks to all who responded.
  7. They did not have Oris but Sousa horns . I was soliciting comments from those who heard oris and can give their opinion on the Sousa s What kind of Horns are you currently using? Are they the Red Ones in your avatar? Yes the red horns are 450hz lecleac'h horns from autotech in Poland. I bought them through a gentleman at diyaudio. Unfortunately he no longer does group purchases so I don't think you can get them anymore. Mine has the two inch throat and I use tad 4001s. The autotech horns are much better in quality than anything I have seen in this side of the pond.
  8. Joe, I think he has a website. Did you try googling Sousa horns ?
  9. Thanks Seti, Gary had them toed in at the show on Friday and most of Saturday... and the system had no center image to speak of. Very disappointing. Then one of Gary's amps blow out on Saturday and we wereplaying around with placement. The room was small but we were able to achieve a solid center with good depth with the horns pointing straight ahead. They are balance and somewhat mellow sounding, very different from the TAD sound, very smooth and nice. I dont think I physically have the space as my 450Hz horns are already overwhelming but I plan to give Gary a visit the next time I go to Baltimore. There are a couple of guys in Chicago using horn loaded full range drivers, Gary's is very compeititive with theirs and I like the LeCleac'h profile. They are very reasonably price. Not as good a deal as the AUTOTECHs but still very attractive price. Surprise Rudy is not commenting....
  10. Where did you hear these? Were you in SS?I went a few years ago, but didn't have the interest for another go-around. Thebes went the last time, was on the fence about going. Very good DIY things, especially horns, when I went before, but the commercially-made Mac and MBL were disappointing. Polk was very good there, and rather underrated IMO. Here is the western electric horn with Jbl woofer and rca tweeter
  11. Sousa 150hz horn with tangband driver. With a bad picture this time... sorry.

Here are some pictures of the rca horn with dual 15" Jbl woofers with Altec clone horns and gpa 288 midrange driver for a cool $75k (discount to $45k)

  14. Crites sells two versions on ebay. The stamp steel ones should be a drop in but he does mentioned removing some wood from the LaScala chambers if one chooses to go ofr the cast aluminum ones. Is that what you mean? Can someone quantify the differences i sound if any?
  15. Colter, I have a set of 416A currently in my Flamencos and a set of 421Hs in my A7 clone cabinets. I was thinking of trying the 421Hs. I also have a number of 15" Magnavox woofers from console pulls that I can try. I prefer to get a K33 if I can find one. Othe rthe Crites ones for $300 shipped via ebay appears to be the only option and I will have to try to sell my single. How much do you want for your k33s?
  16. No, $400 - $600 is definitely not typical, just saying if you are patient, those deals do pop up from time to time. Nope....nor any other amount. These are keepers. $225 for Heresys is a insane deal... but moving to FL is not in the cards, at least not in the foreseeable future.
  17. Did anyone on the forum attend the CAF in Silver Spring, MD last weekend? I had a chance to listen to a number of large horn systems: including some replica RCA dual 15" bass bins with Altec Horns and 288 drivers and Classic Audio JBL Hartsfield clones. What peaked my interest was the huge 150 Hz Sousa Horns made by Gary Gill in the Batimore area with Tangband drivers. They remind me of what Rudy has/had. A friend of mind in Chicago has a similar set with Lowthers. These are suppose to follow the LeCleac'h (since deceased) profile. I listened at length and tried to compare them against my own TAD based system. Just wondering if anyone on the forum was there and what their impressions were.
  18. I see Heresy's quite often for $350 - $400. I see Heresys here in Chicago for $450-$600. Regarding the original post, I think a lot of us will be buying good conditions LaScalas for $400 all day long. I assume you guys that have really gotten great deals on them are not saying $400(rough) - $600(mint) is the prevailing price range for a pair of LaScalas? Are you willing to part with yours for that amount (family and member discount excluded)?
  19. Well I opened it up and is a K33 with a pretty big round magnet - not sure if it increases the difficulty in finding a suitable replacement. A pair of crites is an option but I rather not do it. I do have a bunch Magnavox 15" woofers that I pulled from consoles that I can try... or maybe even a set of Altecs...
