  1. Greg: if you are correct then EV truly suck and there is no reason to by a DX46 at all unless you are using EV speakers! Seems I made a big oops... and assume the unit would do something that it was not meant to.... have you tried contacting their help line?
  2. I recently upgraded by Electrovoice DX38 with a DX46. I have only been using the DX46 for several weeks and still trying to learn about it. I decided on the upgrade after a friend of mine let me borrowed his for a week, and I was able to get one a decent price. The DX46 is about $1800 new, not cheap. I got one for less than 1/2 that from someone that had 2. Here is what I like. Based on my transferring the DX38 settings onto it. So I am not using the FIR functions at all. I am still letting it soak. 1. Its a 3 way crossover. While the DX38 is a two way. The DX46 allows me to run a separate set of tweeters. I am currently running a set a Electrovoice T350 tweeters (acquired from this forum) with my TAD2001/LeCleach horn/Jub clones. So having this option is good. With a DX38, I would have to buy another one. 2. It has a lower noise floor. WIth the crossover at idle, I could barely hear the noise. While with the DX38, it was somewhat pronounced. 3. To my ear, it sounds more detail and more organic. (please don't throw stones). Maybe better DAC and opamps? 4. I like the USB/ETHERNET option to set it. Here is what I do not like: 1. Too many lights: almost a night out in Hong Kong look. 2. I find IRIS-NET to be less user friendly than RACE, and documentation is dismal. 3. Can't easily make adjustments off the front panel control without using the edit function. With the DX38, you just turn a knob. 4. The most serious but I will figure this out....I don't know how to use the FIR function. From reading the pdf files, it seems that Electrovoice has predefined polynomials selected...other than that, I can't seem to locate any more information. And IRIS-NET is said to be the only way to set the FIR functions. I am looking at suggestions for optimizing the FIR settings. Help anyone?
  3. Bob thanks for the reply. I assume that means the 8 ohm ST350A diaphragm will fit into an 8 ohm T350 ? I have a set for ST350As, will keep them if their diaphragms will fit the T350 (8 ohms) that I have... Kwing
  4. Bob: Do you know if the T350 and the ST-350A tweeters use the same diaphragm? Kwing
  5. The T350s are going for $500 - $700 / pair on ebay. If you think the T35 is better, go ahead and sell the. I personally love the T3500s I got here from this forum. In fact I just picked up a second set to use with my other High Frequency challenge speakers.
  6. Shouldn't there have been a recall? Or the warranty extended?
  7. Horatio, Rudy: Are/were you guys using 2nd order LR? Although I achieved similar imaging qualities, I stayed with the LeCleac'h because I like the 3rd 18dB slope protection for my drivers. It also enabled me to start rolling off the TADs at around 900Hz-1KHz. I have found that they sound best when crossover this way. My Jub clones are being crossed up pretty high as a result.... 600Hz or so.
  8. Thanks Rod, With the help of teh amplifier rep, I was able to locate the problem to a switch in the back of the amplifier that flows the ground wire from the basis. I also found a few noisy tubes from the preamp and replaced them. Everything is soaking now and all is quiet again.
  9. Appreciate if someone can point me to the DX38 mod....
  10. All: I have been running my system in full balance mode using the EV DX38 as active XO. I have not done the so call Roy mod. Is that for XLR>RCA In the last week, my power amp developed large hum noise when the XLR input cables are plugged in. The hum noise is there even if the other end of the XLR cable is open. I went on to use the RCA inputs from the amp and everything is fine. I tried 3 diff sets of balance cables and they all hum. Lifting the ground from the AC plug did not help. Do the home audio XLRs follow the same scheme as the PRO world? I note that there is a small capacitor from pin 1 to ground. Is this common practice in the pro world? Do they leave pins 1grounded and shield floating? Looking for answers... appreciate the help in advance.
  11. Re-read the LeCleach slides... the midrange delay is 0.22 x Fr. So I effectively have answered my own question. Speakerfritz, I am implementing this with a DX38. LeCleach has the settings for a Behringer 2496. It will be pretty expensive to build third order filters...even if I choose the passive route, I don't know how to implement the recommended delays using passive devces alone.
  12. Horatio, I read the papers... why did you choose Bessel over the butterworth config? The spreadsheets allows for BUTT, BESS, LR but LeCleach suggested using a 3rd BW alignment. For your 0.22FC did you use the median value of do you use the shifted value for the mid?
  13. I second the use of "balance power". I once visited a amateur recording studio and the engineer had an Equitech balance power supply for his equipment. The noise floor was 20dB lower with the Equitech power supply. I had a chance to try a similar unit at home myself: a Furman IT-1220. I noticed much more detail and the back ground is, for the lack of a better term, " blacker". I now have a Furman IT-1220 in my system, supplemented by a Monster AVS2000 that holds the output at 120V. The electricity in my system fluctuates between 122 - 127VAC.... I tried living without the Furman, the Monster,... but ultimately decided to keep both.
  14. Never mind, I was able to download it today...
  15. Can you guys download the LeCleach zip files? and the spread sheet? The server does not seem to be working...
  16. Sounds great, can you post some links on the LeCleach crossover configuration? The theorectical basis as well as practical implications? Thanks
  17. Yeah I got the TADs. They didn't work too well with the Altec 511Bs but they sound great with the LeCleac'h. You can't crossover the TADs too low and the Jub bass bottom too high. I have been experimenting alot using my DX38. I am finally settle on whata fairly high crossover point for with a steep slope the TADs while keeping the same bass bottom setting that Dr. Who did for me the year before. The instruments and voices sound "just right"
  18. TD-2001s with 30 ohm series resistors. This is the configuration recommended by LeCleac'h. Check out the following: http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hug/messages/15/152678.html
  19. Six CORE PC running Windows 7 and J River Audio Media Center. Mother board has both optical and SPDIF out. I am using the SPDIF out to feed a customize Benchmark USB DAC. I couldn't deal with itunes and I like to Squeezebox idea.
  20. Pics... these are slightly larger than the ones I have in my avatar and much much heavier.
  21. For the Chicago clone pair - built by our old friend ssctrojan right here in this forum,...I am currently using a set LeCleac'h JMLC350 horns from Poland with TAD TD-2001 drivers. I had previously used ALTEC 511B horn + 808-8Bs. I upgraded them to LeCleac'h 400Hz horns with JBL 2435HPL 1.5" drivers. The current combo is far superior.I can't imagine a better sounding top than the LeCleac'h/TADcombination. I am still using the EV DX38 crossover. Hope to go passive one day.
  22. Greg: Thanks for the clarification. I wish I could have been in your room on Sunday. On Saturday, the speakers definitely did not image the way they did in CAF. Also, until you put the Shelby Lynn CD back in, I thought the tweeters were blown as I almost heard no highs.... Now I know why LOL
  23. Greg: The Vittoras sounded great. My friend liked them too. I don't know if you agreed, but I thought they sounded better at the Capitol Fest - imagine that. Nice job and I wish Klipsch was there. The audio landscape is changing and these shows are what connects manufacturers to everyday folk. Not everyone can make CES. Kwing
  24. Those JBLs are one of my favorites at the show. My conclusions from the show are: 1. The stuff I really really liked, I cannot afford them. Such as the JBL Everests, the TAD Reference, ATC Active monitors, as well as a pair of speakers associated with "Holy Sh&t" buttons. 2. There is still great stuff at the low price point: Hsu Research had a nice system for $1100 and the Don Keele designed line source speakers in the Parts Express Room is something I would definitely spend my money onin kit form. 3. Some of the most favorably reviewed speakers in TAS and S*file are really over rated and over price. Audio Note had a two way speaker system for the insane price of $66,000!! 4. SACDs are a rip off. DSD files are the future. 5. I like John Atkinson - much more down to earth than I expect. I had a good time in Denver...
  25. Greg: I was impressed by them in Washington. I continue to be impressed by them in Denver - looks like you found better electronics driving them in Denver Hope you did well. See you at CES??
