  1. Boa, I think he means just CO not CO2. CarbonMonoxide not CarbonDioxide. But did anyone notice how Dubya said in his first address "We WILL cut XXXXX taxes." not "I will work with YYYYYY to try to get XXXXX taxes reduced". Then when the cut doesn't happen Slick Willy just threw up his hands saying "I tried!".
  2. Yes, you can order them from Klipsch. They'll take Visa or Master Card and deliver them snail mail or Fed-Ex. There may be prices (although I haven't seen them) on the Parts List with Home Audio. The Tweeter Blower, Tom
  3. DPonder, Here is a scan of the warranty from the Legend manual. It doesn't anything either way. Tom
  4. I agree with you that listening to really flat music reeks. As far as the tone controls go, if you have a "Tone Defeat" button on you receiver/preamp I'd have it engaged. Using the analyzer with all the eq settings flat and the tone controls defeated will give you a flat output from the speakers (well, it's supposed to anyway) but not in the room. Every room either absorbs or reflects certain fequencies and at different amounts. If you had a room with hardwood floors and NO furniture you would have what is called a very "live" room (if it echoes it's REALLY live). In other words, all (well, most anyway) the sound coming from the speakers is reflected back from the opposing wall bouncing around in the room, then theres resonances at some fequencies (the shattering of a wine glass by an opera singer is a good example) that boost some to some really high levels. Now, if you had a lot of furniture, drapes, curtains etc. in the room then the sound is going to get absorbed in those items creating a "dead" sounding room. The eq is meant to cut the live fequencies and boost the dead ones. Just my non-formal-educated thought. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany Carver Receiver MXR-150 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ dbx 3bx Series Two H.H. 5. Thanks Gil, I've got an e-mail out to someone at Carver to see if they can tell me how much of the receiver's power is Class A if any. That may be a good starting point to tell if it's starting to clip or not.
  6. There's another poster on the BB with some KLF-30's having the back coming loose. See if you can send a private message to "mdeneen" to see what he did about it. He's got posts all over the BB. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany Carver Receiver MXR-150 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ dbx 3bx Series Two H.H. 7. O.K. I've got some rough numbers. At about 10 o'clock volume position it's putting out about 102db (music playing at full frequency range) using I think between 2.6 and 3.1 watts. The wattage numbers are a little sketchy since the chart I referred to was intended for a speaker with 101db sensitivity and the KLF-20's are 100db. Is this making any sense?
  8. Thanks Bob, Now that's the most useful piece of info I've gotten on here yet. So would a larger amp with more headroom be the ticket? I do have another question though. I understand about the double of power drawn for every +3db of eq BUT....is it true across the whole frequency range or just one frequency? What I'm getting at is that if I run the high and middle flat or with a cut of -1db to -1.5db and +2db on the bass end (125hz and under) is that still going to damage the high end and maybe the mids? The distortion according to the manual of the receiver doesn't seem to be that bad. Please look at the attachment above. After the break-in is done do the drivers (twetter and mid) become more durable or do they just get a little quieter. BTW: I talked to tech support today. Not sure who it was but it wasn't Trey. He was telling me the that the whole break in period was "Voodoo" and that they're plenty broken in at the factory. I' not saying who's right and who's not but just that there's a discrepancy and my hands are still up in the air on that one. Thanks again, ------------------ Tom
  9. The 20's and 30's can be bi-wired but the 10's cannot.
  10. I think I have found a few other settings that have been giving it hell, the 3bx is set for about 20% expansion so that could be adding some db's to the total (I may have to mothball it all together after this). The receiver just came back from the authorized Carver service center (Everett Audio Repair) and still seems to play (all settings being equal)slightly quieter on one channel so I increased the gain to that channel about 1db. Yea, I know, red warning lights and sirens should be going off because I'm now up to about +3 to +4db on that channel. I may just tweak the balance though I really don't feel I should have to. See if any of this sounds like a source of damage, when I turn off the receiver it produces a disturbing "pop" that sounds just like a static ground if you walk across carpet and touch system. I'm assuming it's a spark that's occurring between contacts inside the power switch. Thought of a couple ways to stop this. I could either turn off the speakers first THEN turn off the amp or this next possible solution which I think may be adding to troubles. I have an outlet strip plugged into the outlet on the receiver and all the other equipment is plugged into that strip. I may unplug all that from the receiver and plug the receiver into the strip and the strip to the wall. Later I would like to get a Monster Cable HTS-500 line conditioner. Sound viable?
  11. I have a set of KLF-20's that are about three weeks old. So far I've replaced one tweeter diaphragm and just ordered another one today for the same problem (blown). I realized just after blowing the first tweeter that I had the eq settings way too high so I ran the receiver flat and the eq about +1 to +2db. I also understand that the high frequencies are really bright when they're new and takes about 100 hours of playing to settle down. My question is, during that break-in period should they only be played at low volumes till the break-in is complete? The receiver is 150wpc and it never got above the 10 o'clock position. I found the second tweeter (same channel) was not producing like it was a few days earlier when I got home from work and my girlfriend was playing a Thirty-Eight Special cd where the signal from the disk seemed rather strong and constant. Please no flames about using an eq with set up. So, should the 20's be babied till they break in? ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany Carver Receiver MXR-150 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ dbx 3bx Series Two H.H. 12. I bought from Uncle's and I'm having a rough time just getting a receipt from them. The most I have is the bill of laiding from the trucking company
  13. I didn't know you could do all that in the same pick-up truck!

  15. Inhale to the chief... Sure wish I had the amount of money that it takes to buy me my own personal politician. Could never be one though....not one to just stand there with congress' ear in one hand and the other hand held out waiting for someone to grease it; and my boss' hubby is an elected official.
  16. Look on the bright side, her approval ratings are falling fast. Last I heard it was around 25%. Martin Sheen for President??
  17. I've still got the old ad poster for that MAXELL!!! comercial on my wall. There is also a reproduction made through the Steve Steigman and The Weaver Gallery. 18. HEHE!! Remember when he wanted to buy shopping carts for the homeless?! And that major milestone......THE MOTOR VOTER LAW!!! Then he can't decide which part of his hair he wanted grey! Surprised Rush Limbaugh hasn't chimed by now. This is great!
  19. I found out the hard way how to blow a tweeter(s). I thought I was listening to my system at normal setting and then one day I had very dead sounding highs. Turned out I had enough +db's added from the eq and the receiver to support another 5 pairs of speakers (+12db total!!). Additionally I found that there wasn't much usable volume control either. It was either off or too loud for the moment in just one notch (about 2 degrees turning). So I ran the eq almost flat, defeated the receiver's tone control, kept the loudness engaged and I'm not really missing anything. Total tone db input? 1.75db, and it sounds fine. So yes, the amp was probably clipping at the insane +12db and it didn't have to be turned up hardly at all. The tweeter baffles were installed by myself with little more than a #1 Philips screwdriver and an 11/32" open-end wrench. Took about 15 minutes. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany Carver Receiver MXR-150 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ dbx 3bx Series Two H.H. 20. Guess what? Bill Clinton IS NOT responsible for the economy getting better!! The hard working people known as taxpayers are. After all, what was the last country to elevate itself into prosperity by taxing the people more? Yes, the internet has made an impact on the marketing of consumer goods, and the government does not like it a bit. If the Capitol Hill thieves would lower taxes to a reasonable level then people would have more money to spend; and do what? Generate more tax revenue AND allow (like we need their permission)the public to own something they want or need. Then everybody's happy (mostly). Gee, in China you need government permission to own a car, a large appliance or even have a child. Last I remember they're a dictatorship. By over taxing the people you regulate these same simple rights of existence for the people that write the government's paycheck. I don't remember the Constitution saying anything like "From the government, for the people....". Symbolism over substance, that all that phony ever was. Sorry for the flame but the only reason he got in office was that women thought he was good looking and the minority vote was promised more benefits.
  21. Mr. Blorry, I've had a pair of JBL L-300 Summits in my family for about 25 years now. These must have been the industrial kind because we bought them from a local dance-club and the cabinets aren't as nice and furniture looking. The woofers have been replaced with Altec's and nothing short of CPR that sounds wonderful. Many a people have walked by our house on the sidewalk, looked up at the house and said "Nice Band!". Especially playing Jethro Tull (those are the same people you have to tell "It's a 'they' not a 'he'!). Just before we moved out of that house we were agaze at the 1/2" wide cracks in the plaster of the walls they caused. Pink Floyd' "Meddle" (sp) was also a favorite. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany Carver Receiver MXR-150 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ dbx 3bx Series Two H.H. 22. dcb, For the potentiometer part try Everett Audio Repair in Everett, Washington. They have ALL the parts from Carver when they closed down a few years ago. Carver is back and being ran by Bob himself now. Go to http://www.carveraudio.com and go to "Carver Audio Repair" in the upper left. There you'll find the address and phone number for the shop. You have to talk to Rita get the right part. 23. O.K. so the title was a little misleading. BUT, I'm using my KLF-20's on a hardwood floor and right now I have the plastic feet/spikes attached. I've got the spikes threaded in backwards as not to mark up the floor; they don't protrude at all. Should I be using the vinyl/rubber caps that came on the studs instead? The manual suggests that I do to not do damage to the red oak underneath. Is there a sonic benefit to using the vinyl caps? ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany Carver Receiver MXR-150 Yamaha PF-800 Turntable/ Sure V15 Type V Cartridge Carver TL-3100 CD Yamaha K-1020 Cassette dbx 1231 EQ dbx 3bx Series Two H.H. 24. They (ICB Audio Co.) sell studio, digital recording and a little bit of d.j. equipment.
  25. I've read of some problems with the pre-amp section of some pro-media's. There is a dedicated forum for the pro-media's on the BB.
