  1. What sort of wait are are you looking at with those? For $1500 they seem reasonable. Theres a pair of "prototype" horn monos listed on usaudiomart about an hour away. Not sure the small discount is worth not buying new, though. Can you use a DAC with a volume knob as a preamp with those? Was looking at the Black Ice DAC FX which had a volume knob and curious if that would play nice with those mono blocks
  2. Any particular reason for that recommendation? The vintage stuff doesn't particularly pique my interest at all for whatever reason, but I'm willing to listen.... Also I know this stuff was probably cheap a few years ago and now prices have surged and that would somewhat bother me to pay those inflated prices
  3. Doing a little research ahead of time of a possible La Scala II purchase. I'd like to try tubes and thinking $1500 is my max on a good integrated setup. I saw suggestions of the Quicksilver Horn Mono's but that doesn't leave any $$ room for a pre-amp. I read really good things about the Cronus Magnum and think I may be able to get close to my price for the 2nd version. I think for sure on the first version. But I did see a couple mentions of the CM having some noise with the heritage speakers. Anyone here have this combo care of chime in? I'd, of course, would like to avoid noise and hum if this combo is prone to that. I will most likely just use 1 source, probably a streamer of some sorts. I don't believe I would mind having to bias by hand as long as the process is pretty easy, which is seems to be on most of these. Haven't ruled out the VT-70 kit yet, but if I could get something comparable that's already built, I would probably do so. I see Quicksilver also has a integrated amp, maybe could get lucky on price on a use unit, but I think I'd much prefer somewhere where the tubes are visible.
  4. Onkyo came yesterday. Hoping to get it out of the box tonight. Part of me wonders if my ears just suck or perhaps I can't recognize good sound. I do remember back in the day, maybe 15-20 years ago a couple instances going to hear these great speakers and not being impressed at all. One was these big huge Martin Logan speakers in the uber-$$$ room at Sound Advice (anyone remember those stores?) and the other was the VMPS RM40 back when they were all the rage. I remember going to a demo of both and thinking "meh". I hope I can get these RF-7's ironed out and if the La Scala II purchase, maybe that's the sound I've been looking for.
  5. Wonder how that Jolida would sound with some La Scala IIs?
  6. I've run the Audessey setup on the Denon with the mic and let it do its thing. I guess I will check on the polarity. I did finally find the AVR I've been waiting for in stock on Friday, so new onkyo rz50 on the way. I'll run Dirac and see if that improves anything.
  7. i mean, that was a $1500 AVR. Not top quality but nicer than anything i’ll ever have in one of my bedrooms. Thats about the top of my price range for electronics although i am agreeable to adding an emotiva or monolith 3 or 5 channel amp. I am shopping for a new avr but its going to be around the same price. No doubt the room needs more in it, however in all fairness, the old speakers were in the same situation, so while not ideal listening conditions, i guess i just expected a big wow factor from the rf7 in the same environment. I guess i was wrong.
  8. now granted, that's the measurement from the front of it. I think its only 13" or whatever from the wall from the back of the projector, but yeah, trying to stick a speaker in front of that could be a real challenge. You already have to get creative and stick a horizonal center much lower than it ideally would be.
  9. I have to confess, I didn't even know the La Scala 2's were a thing until I saw the set you ended up purchasing a few weeks ago. That grain pattern is amazing. I have thought about them and even went to go look at the pics several times after. I was familiar with all of the older versions, plenty of raw birch models out there. And then of course the AL's for $$$$. It wasn't until your set was posted that I realized there was something in between with the split cabinet design (which I really, really like)
  10. I'll have to try and wrap my head around that. It would seem it would be sitting over 4' away from the wall as the projector already is 28" out from the screen, plus the depth of the LS. And probably right in line with the bottom of the screen. Higher ceilings would sure help. Also gotta keep in mind this is a general purpose room. Would be a lot different if this were a dedicated theater.
  11. wow, well that was fast. Sent you a msg. I'm not sure I the setup can support a single LS center, though. This is what I've ordered https://awolvision.com/ and it sits right below the screen, so I can't imagine where a LS center channel would go, not to mention I think they are too tall for where the screen will go....
  12. On the hunt for some La Scala 2's just incase. Whether they become the main part of the system or a separate system, I do want to hear the heritage magic. I'm not sold on the RF-7's yet. they aren't doing anything for me and I think might be a bit harsh, but yes, we do need a rug and some more in the room. I'm just not getting the wow factor from them yet that I had hoped after spending that money. Someone else suggested some better amplification and I don't doubt that can help, I'm not particularly happy with the Denon x3400 I have either. I like the idea of spreading out the rear sourrounds. They will be on stands, I think, too, so could always move them more to the side if I felt it really added that much more to the sound track. And then back to the rear wall to sit. as this isn't a dedicated theater room, I need to take into account that we need pathways, etc. The one thing I'm not sure how to address is the center channel if I were to go La Scalas for the main speakers. Home Theater and gaming is still the main priority, music would be second. WIth the ultra short throw projector, it sits right under the screen so you really need something horizontal for a center. So even something smaller like a Heresy would be problematic with my projector setup.
  13. Thinking about a nicer pair of La Scala 2 speakers in FL area. Somewhat local to the Tampa, FL would be much preferred. Anyone have a pair they're thinking of selling?
  14. Behind the screen would be outside in the driveway so I don't think that would work too well. This is an ultra short throw project so not the setup you are probably thinking of
  15. I did see the 5.x format did spec out sides as opposed to rears. I just don't see that working in my room. I think I'd prefer to sacrifice a little surround sound to not have speakers in the middle of the room. But I suppose anything on a stand could be moved around but I do really probably see them on the back wall. Interesting idea about all La Scalas up front, although the center would be too high so it's have to be something else. Keeping my eyes out though for some nice LS II's locally I did initially think a separate theater and 2 channel system would be neat but perhaps combining it would be much more simple.
  16. yeah, I think I mentioned before, I was between a Klipsch setup and Tekton and it just came down to finding used RF-7's first. I have a feeling I would have been happy either way. But yes, now that I have a little more room, a 2 channel Heritage setup is possible, so I guess I will be all-in Klipsch for the near future.
  17. Oh, I guess since I've posted pics and all that, perhaps we could kill 2 questions with 1 post. I'm also still undecided on the rear surrounds. Thinking either the RP-600m or RP-502s. I think both would need to be stand mounted as the back window gets in the way of wall-mounting the rear-left surround. I am leaning towards the RP-600M as I've never used a speaker like the 502s before, but if its right for the room and the situation, I want to do what's best.
  18. Hi all, We recently moved into a new house that has a big open room over the 3 car garage. I use this has my office and guitar room and am planning a theater with a 120" screen and projector. I would like to also try to incorporate a 2-channel Heritage system in here, too, and was curious about your thoughts. 5.1.4 system will be RF-7 iii's and RC-64iii up front. Ignore the TV below, just in place temporarily until the 120" screen and ultra short throw projector get here. Unfortunately, with the low ceilings, I will only have ~35" underneath the projection screen. I had initially thought about moving out the RF-7's a little more wider and then putting a pair of quartets just inside them, as I believe these are the biggest Heritage speakers under 35" which wouldn't interfere with the screen. Although yesterday I realized I do have 2 corners, so perhaps I could move the RF-7 in as much as possible and then put some bigger Heritage speakers to the outside? However.....the whole left side of this room is storage, so I'd need to be able to get to the doors there, which would mean La Scala or Klipschorn would need to go on something like Herbie Gliders. I think this is probably ok as people use these anyway and I think they'd allow me to get into the storage doors? Klipschorn would be the ultimate but I only have 4' there to the left of the leftmost RF7 and since those need to be pulled out a little from the wall, I wonder if that's would interfere with the corner Klipschorn? I'm also wondering if the 20' soundstage is perhaps too wide for the room and my seating position. Any suggestions here from anyone who's use the same space for home theater and 2 channel music?
  19. prob 10 min away from me. Seems like a solid little 2 channel system.
  20. Keep me in mind if you come across a rc64. There are some 600m set that I saw locally that I might use for surrounds. Was going back and forth on the 8000 and almost bought a package deal. But kept seeing mention of the rf7's so I had a quick look and saw these on CL. I'm normally pretty frugal but thought the rf7 was probably the better purchase.
  21. Room is still a work in progress - we just moved. This is a single big room over a 3 car garage. I have a 120" screen and ultra short throw projector ordered that will fit right between the 2 windows. My old B&W with 6.5" drivers (which my wife thought were already big enough) still there for scale. The RF-7 are big but honestly not quite as big as I was expecting. TV is a old 43" plasma that I'm temp using for PS5. I have it pulled out from the wall a bit so I can see it from where we have the couches. Would love a pair of Heritage under the screen on the inside of the RF7s. We'll see, not sure if there will be room or not. Probably not.
  22. Picked these up this am. Seller was very nice. Any local deals on RC-64 III now?
  23. I know I'm late to the party but just also had to add my "wow" to this. I can only hope something near me comes up like this in the future. Hope you enjoy them.
  24. I appreciate the post. At this time I think I'm sticking with rp8000f (or tekton double impact) whichever come up for sale locally first
