  1. Thanks for all the advice. You guys are a big help for novices like me. I guess I should probably stick with Ubid, but the only sub listed there for the past month's been the 15. You can get it for about $370.00; however, the shipping jacks the price up another $60.00-$70.00. I'd probably be happier with the 15 and a warranty, it's just that it seems like a lot of money. If you can believe it, C/Net rated a JBL sub as being better than the KSW-10 and it only costs around $200.00. Hope I'm not sounding cheap. I'd originally planned to upgrade to a ProMedia 5.1 and promised my wife that going this route wouldn't cost too much more.
  2. I've been shopping around for a subwoofer to compliment the Quintet satellites and KSWC-1 center ordered from Ubid.com. I'm thinking of purchasing a KSW-10 or 12, but am a little unsure about the legitimacy of several sites. Does anyone have knowledge of or experience with 50 Top Sellers or avbay.com. Both offer a reasonably good prices, but then again there's the question of legitimacy. I'm also wondering about which unit would work best with this system. I'm a little embarrassed to say that my receiver's only 60 watts. Thanks.
  3. This audio stuff is complicated. It's almost a full time job learning the minimum that's needed to configure, shopping for the best price, and all the while attempting to understand the terms and acronyms--not to mention watts, amps, and ohms. Well, I now have four Quintet satellites on the way from Ubid, and at the moment am bidding on a pair of centers, RSC-1's, only because Quintet centers and RSC-.5's seem harder to come by. I'm not sure if I'll keep the second center. After looking at a number of receiver specs, I learned that you can have a front as well as a rear center. Overkill? I'm also shopping for a KSW-12 or 15. Trey, from Klipsch Technical Support, informed me several days ago that a receiver, in order to work with the computer, which houses music and is used to play DVD's, must have "coax digital input." Now, what else does it need or should it have? If you could comment on Yamaha's CA/VIT (see below, I'd certainly appreciate it. There are actually three models. The link above is to the basic or cheapest one. Though it's not a receiver per say, it's designed to work with a computer. I'm just a little concerned because my soundcard duplicates some of its features, and it doesn't appear to have individual outputs for each of the speakers and sub. I'm also wondering if it has enough power. It doesn't say anything about wattage in terms that I'm familiar with. I think its rated using RMS watts and there are only 12. One other thing. What do you have to do to get digital sound? Most everything Ive seen only produces analog. Even my 4.1's dont seem to recognize a digital signal. Thanks in advance for all your help. 4. I'm following the same path. I was going to upgrade from ProMedia 4.1 to 5.1, but instead opted to bid on 4 quintets which are on the way, I hope, from Ubid. I'm presently shopping for a center and woofer. I also need a receiver, or something of the like, to complete the link between computer and speakers. Any advice? Let me know how that center sounds, as it seems to be the one that's easiest to get. Thanks. 5. Had the ProMedia 5.1's not been so hard to get, I probably wouldn't be asking this question. Now that there's been a little time to ponder, I'm thinking of upgrading from a ProMedia 4.1 to a Quintet system. I'll have to do it piecemeal, purchasing from "Ubid" and the like, but my question concerns the added need for a receiver. I'm primarily a computer person and would like to use my soundcard to control the Quintet system. Could somebody recommend a good but inexpensive receiver, if there is such a thing, that would allow me to do this. I built a new box over the summer and the souncard I'm using is Creative's Soundblaster Live 5.1. Thanks.
  6. Help. I need sound! I've sold my 4.1's and need to know if the Synery or Quintet microsystems will connect to my computer, Soundblaster 5.1 Platinum, as 5.1's would. I'm ready to go all the way for the noise. Thanks.
  7. Is it possible to merry up a 4.1 and a 5.1 to create a 9.1 system? Is it feasible? Thanks.
  8. With the help of $27.00 worth of Radio Shack wires and adapters, I connected my digital cable T.V. box to my 4.1's using y-cords at the sound card. I've checked the connections and all settings, on both T.V. receiver and SB Live! Value card, that I'm aware of, nevertheless, the sound is still weak and there's a fairly significant rolling hiss in the background. Can you help?
  9. Thanks Dan. Your recommendation helped; however, I'm wondering if a better sound card might improve things even more? Right now, I'm using a SoundBlaster Value card that came packaged with my computer.
  10. I just recently had digital cable T.V. installed not too far from my computer and 4.1's. Is there a way to connect the 4.1's to the T.V. so that I would have the benefit of using the sound system with both computer and T.V.?
  11. I've owned a ProMedia 4.1 system for approximately six months. Until recently, I've been very pleased with the system and have taken every opportunity to show it off. Last week, however, an equally impressed yet savy 22 year old cable modem installer suggested that I contact Klipsch about distortion in the satellites due to bass crossover. Is there anything that I can do to eliminate a fair amount of distortion at higher volumes due to bass coming through the satellites?
  12. When will the 4.1 system be available for purchase from the Klipsch site? Is it true, as suggested in another bulletin board message, that the 4.1 system is simply two 2.1's? Is the warranty better if the system is purchased directly from Klipsch?
