  1. I'm a newbie when it comes to klipsch highend audio speakers and was wondering after I read the specs on the heritage speakers where the bass driver is located at on these speakers. Especially the la scala unit as it just seems to be a wood enclosure. I really am impressed by their specs, I would love to hear a pair, alas if I hear some, I might want them and I cannot yet afford them for my system...
  2. I believe I will upgrade to a dvd player and then.. I will upgrade my speakers so as to see an overall improvement, major improvement is most likely to be seen. My only concern is that once I find "the system" that rocks for my combo and room at home, I will most likely have to move back into the dorm or into the fraternity house, and I don't want to put expensive speakers in jeopardy. Maybe I'll end up buying 4 quintet sats and a larger center (maybe ksc1, would that be timbre matched to the quints?) and then if I want more sound from the mains, I may upgrade my ht experience with a seperate amp and new (read bigger) speakers. I'll have to give it some thought....
  3. it's all good seb, If you read my other post keep em or lose em, I ended up taking the 400's back and getting a better receiver so... I'm going to upgrade my home theater system, maybe buy the pro-medias again next year if I'm stuck in another dorm room but if not I'd like to upgrade my current speakers with some really nice klipsch mains and center and then maybe quints in the rear, oh well, later, it's late again,
  4. Well I do apologize for the crude sticker joke, thought you might take it in all the sarcasm that was meant but I guess not... I do apologize. My question was sincere, I just wanted to know if you had any idea of why the sony's kept coming back since you've seen them coming back more often. not meaning to be smartarse but bonjour. It might be spell right, I don't know, just thought I'd type something in french. No harm meant mike, "You've been great, I'm out"- george costanza
  5. Hello all, I recently acquited a jvc receiver rx-1028vbk and now have all the plugs and hookups and inputs and outputs I could possibly need for the years to come. My question is as follows: I owned a set of klipsch pro-media v.2-400's for approx: 3 days and loved their sound, highs, mids were fine and the sub oh my, beats that damn 100 watt jvc I've had for years all to heck... I returned the klipsch due to a static noise when adjusting the volume but anyway.. The quintets are basically the same speaker except a larger driver, they are ported and can handle more power. I'm thinking of buy a quintet system (4 sats and 1 center). I'm not sure which sub I would end up buying though as I haven't thought through all my options. But I can get a good deal on the quintets and would like to see if anyone else had any experience with them. The room they will be used in is a college dorm room with concrete block walls and approximately 10'x15' but later on (summer ) they will be used in a larger room 22'x22'. My system as currently is: jvc rx-1028 vbk infinity ref71 mkII 3-ways crappy jvc surrounds and center no dvd player as of yet Any opinions on subs that can be used with this system? thanks mike
  6. Mike.... uh I was wondering, I noticed you mentioned that the sony's break a lot more than the viewsonics, do you have an opinion on why they actually do this (and don't give me sony's are crap) is it the tube, the wiring what? Or maybe just maybe, if your store sells them, they put a little sticker on it taht says: "when setting up, drop on floor. Plug in monitor, if it still works, drop on floor again. If it is broken bring back to the store and we will fix it, and recommend you buy a viewsonic monitor next time." Just wondering......... you might want to use the button just to the left of the submit button as some of your words are a little crazy. (horizontal not aurizontal). later "you've been great, I'm out"- george costanza
  7. Ok here's the deal: I've got to return my klipsch pro-media v.2-400's tomorrow because they make that static noise when I adjust volume. I really like these speakers and would like to upgrade to the 4.1 series. Getting the 4.1's is not the problem. These speakers are great, and I love them but.... I also have a pretty nice receiver, and 6 disc cd-player, 9 speakers and 1 subwoofer (not counting the 5 speakers in the pro-media), I like home theater/audio and would like to buy a dvd player. Here's the problem:: I really like the klipsch speakers, but I can't integrate them into my system I have now, (no I don't use all 9 speakers at once,) as I don't have pre-amp out on my receiver. Since I could continue to use my laptop as my dvd player, I could upgrade to the 4.1's and get rid of some of the other stuff (about 4 speakers and a sub). If I buy a dvd player with built in dd decoding, then I could use the component audio out ( 5 channel out including lfe channel) and hook the pro's up to this, and not have a center channel. The klipsch are loud speakers and I love them, I'd be using them for a long time after I bought them but I can't see getting them if I can basically buy a dvd player and have a 5.1 system keep in mind a decent 5.1 system but I really like the klipsch dangit, I'm obsessed with these klipsch, they provide great sound, great bass. So give me your opinion on the following choices: 1. upgrade to 4.1's and get rid of something 2. upgrade to 4.1's and keep everything else also 3. don't upgrade, keep what you've got now 4. buy a real dvd player and do 5.1 5. buy a real dvd player and the 4.1's and do 4.1 let me know what you all think.... later "you've been great, I'm out"- george costanza
  8. oh dear lord.... I never said I wanted to replace the media's speakers with quintets... just asked a question about the abilities of the amp...
  9. Well sory you couldn't check them all out in the store... there are a couple issues you ahve to think about though if you can't find either one around you locally like if it breaks, how long will it take you to get it fixed? I have to take my laptop to atleast one class everyday, probably 3 classes next quarter, and if it gets busted then I'm screwed over big time for that class as all my homework is done on it as well as most of my notes, not to mention my mp3's. SO anywho you have to think about that issue, I'm not gonna give you an opinion, I haven't used either one, people will give you all the reviews you can read and obviously you've read a few already, you just gotta choose which you think is best for your situation, "You've been great I'm out" - george costanza
  10. To whom it may concern (mike the real one...): Two mikes don't make a right (straight out of gone in sixty seconds although in that movie it's two rogers don't make a right), it has been quite fun arguing over which is better, (my name is mike also). I really don't care whether you like viewsonic or sony. I just stepped up and started "pissing" (nice term janko) because your all up claiming viewsonic to be better than sony in computer monitors. In my original post I made a very simple comment summing it up it said "sony can't be good at making everything" where as viewsonic has to be great at making monitors or uhh no more viewsonic (toshiba projectors are better... don't take that the wrong way mike). I made a simple point and I stick by it. The whole weight thing, that was just a sarcastic joke as was the compliance thing, and the control thing and... any way. You can obviously compare the two but whether pcworld ranks it the best or car and driver rates it the best it's like I said in another post were the person is looking at two different models of monitors, paragon quoted me you can read it above. Oh by the way, I'm not sure what that first line says but you might want to correct it for grammar, I think there is a fragment and maybe some mispelled words in there. Must have been fuming because of all the $$$$ you lost to janko, see you could have bought that sony monitor.... j/k and my name, its the shortest way to write my email address for college, part of my last, middle, first I would just like to make one last rebutal, you said that I wanted to express my love for sony one last time.... uhhhh no, I can't say that I love sony.... "You've been great, I'm out" -george costanza
  11. Well, uhhh... I already have a dolby digital receiver, infinity 3-ways, and a sub... but would like to add the klipsch in there for some real punch... only problem with this... is that my receiver (JVC 778 BVK) doesn't have pre-outs..... I can pick up a dvd player (specifically sony 560 model for 300 at most) and to get matching speakers (center, surround and mains) that sound like what I would want to sound would be about 1250 onto that, but I wouldn't be happy with my jvc so I'd have to go with a yamaha or onkyo receiver which would add about 500 to that, so lets see.... maybe I could just run a toslink (optical) cable to my receiver, set it up so it runs just the center channel and the infinity's and then run the connections to the klipsch and use those also, only problem would be volume matching, I'd have to set a level on my reciever (say volume at 50) and then would have to match the klipsch to that for the specific volume and would have to be able to find that each and every time.... hmmm that might work, might have to give that a try....
  12. gave the point to sony because you missed the whole point. let me explain myself in like terms: Mike the real one says: those two little lines aren't on the viewsonic and those lines are important because viewsonic is the first to get rid of them, viewsonic gets a point, (this is mike's opinion as several others said it is not important at all) That means when I say: I like sony's controls better than viewsonic aka my opinion, sony wins, sony gets point, total equals: sony 2 viewsonic 2 price is not in your original points but warranty was so...see bottom of post viewsonic (1 point), Energy star compliance was setup by the epa to promote energy efficiency as such it is in a word, only applicable to the USA. INTERNATIONAL ENERGY STAR COMPLIANCE do you need me to say more? does the word international spell it out? It means the sony is upto higher standards, on a global scale for several different countries. Viewsonic 3 Sony 3.00000005 (.00000005 of a point because it's heavier) Sony wins have a nice day I WIN YOU LOSE
  13. I was thinking about the following plan: using the component audio outs on a dvd player, using the left and right mains rca's converting them to mini plug and hooking those up to the inputs for the fronts, doing the same thing for the rears. Then for center channel I was thinking of buying a klipsch center channel, converting the rca to mini and using a 4.1 as a amplifier to this, maybe wiring the two front channels into parallel (120 watts)to drive the center channel.. then maybe a klipsch ksw-15 sub for the lfe channel of the component audio. sounds like it would work, maybe, let me know, later
  14. Paragon, haha you make me laugh first off but not meaning to sound rude but what you just said is the most common sense thing that anyone could ever say about home audio or anytype of audio. OBVIOUSLY!!! I've dealt with home audio for a little while (7 years, watts don't appear out of no where) ex: running infinity reference speakers with 105 watts x 2, they can handle 160, yes underpowered is the word) I was just asking a question about another persons idea that I saw somewhere. Where if they supposedly changed the 'media's sattelites they somehow would have 560 watts of power all told... don't ask me where they came to that conclusion, I'm just asking what the abilities of the amp are... and still no one has answered my questions with anyting that I can't find on the website, (60x4 for sats, 160 for sub) any other specs on the amp? thanks Wait one last question.... I read on the back of the sub, amp is compatible with 4-16 ohm speaker loads, from my experience with other amps, the less impedence the more power.. so since the sats are 4 ohm rated and the quintets are 8 ohm rated wouldn't you be putting 30 watts into them? Thereotically? ex: Yamaha rx-v596 8 ohm load 100x2 6 ohm load 160x2 4 ohm load 190x2 these numbers aren't right on but they are a close approximation...
  15. This won't be the ideal distances but my couch in my dorm room is about 5-6 feet away from my tv and the speakers will be on either side of it about 2 feet away from the tv on either side most likely hanging from the ceiling. My rears will be on either side of the couch as it is against the wall almost and will be about 2 feet at the most away from ear level hanging from the ceiling so I'm definately gonna have to monitor my rear surround level. Oh by the way, if your wondering why my ceilings are so short? I built what basically amounts to a table (we call it a deck) and it stands about 33" tall, so couch fits on top along with the "necessary equipment" (klipsch pro-media and dvd player, tv blah blah..) and beds go underneath, later
  16. use hofy's approach, duct tape will fix everything, I swear!!
  17. A guy on my floor has had good luck with I believe it's a rio but it has a memory card something like 4mb or something like that. Holds like a hundred songs or something. not sure, sorry I don't konw much, mainly use my laptop for the tunes, later
  18. Hello all, I've read quite a bit of the older posts and all of the newer posts and I've noticed some of the people who now own pro-medias are replacing their sats with quintets. I read somewhere can't remember which post that this increased the output to 560 (under some 600 watt max?) where have people been coming up with this and what exactly are the capabilities of this amp that is included with the pro-medias? Thanks
  19. quite funny indeed, I will say though, I'm not at my laptop and I'm using someone else's computer and gasp.... it has labtec speakers, the lowliest of labtecs!!!! I WANT MY KLIPSCH!! I have to pack them up tonight, gonna take them back and get the 4.1's because of the hissing noise, can't wait, later
  20. Hehe, to see if your right or wrong eh? I WIN YOU LOSE... "looks ofthe whole package" - equates to- the way the monitor looks... el opinion de miguel says sony looks better sony wins price- found them on buy buddy.com, you can check it out, just used whatever was available, also that's US not canadian (are you a canadian?) heaviest wins equates to bigger equals better the whole sony vs. viewsonic on this particular model can be summed up in my above a paragraph (in the post above this one) Oh yeah and yes one can give the points for controls because you gave points for those two little lines not being on the viewsonic and being on the sony. That whole point was about how essential it was not to have those lines, so I believe it should be sony 2 viewsonic 2 or sony 1 viewsonic 1 or sony 1.000000005 (.000000005 of a point for being heavier than the viewsonic) viewsonic 1 just my .02
  21. Sony wins vs. Viewsonic, bigger is better Ford is better than chevy or dodge.... I agree with paragon, I'm not arguing your opinion, just trying to egg you on. One ways more so it wins. haha.... my opinion... I'll sum up this "argument" in the following example: This viewsonic vs. sony thing is like ford vs. chevy, or ranger vs. s10. Only the person who's gonna be sitting in the driver's seat and using the product everyday can say which one is better for them. Some people buy the more expensive model because it's "better" some realize that the less expensive model is just as good as the more expensive one, but it has less frills. There you go, summed her up in a paragraph and now we can all have our opinions, this has been fun,
  22. If you ask my opinion we need to go back to the good old days of 8, 16 and 32 bit soundblaster soundcards... oh those werethe days..... (flashback)... anyway, just my opinionia
  23. I'm gonna tell you what you need to do: 1.) get your arse up out of your computer chair and goto a quality store where you can view both screens at 1600x1200 85hz. That simple!! 2.) Buy whichever one you like the best. That simple!! Everyone on the board will give you their opinion, and you need to take that into consideration that when someone says sony or viewsonic it is their opinion. It is your opinion that counts so you goto the store and check them out and find which one you like the best and then buy wherever you want to buy it at. Whether it be at that store you messed around with them at or online.. Do your homework online but do it also in the store where you can get hands on.. later
  24. In response to the real mike: After looking over your post and browsing the internet I've come across the following things you need to be aware of: Your not giving points for other things: Bulk: Sony: weight 44.1 lbs, dimensions (wxhxd)15.9" x 16.3" x 16.5" Viewsonic: weight 37.4 lbs dimensions (wxhxd)15.9"x16.3"x16.5" did sony add some lead to their monitor or what? for pure weight, sony wins Sony 2 Viewsonic 2 Display buttons and features: Sony 5 buttons and 18 onscreen displays Power on/off, brightness, contrast, reset, display mouse control Viewsonic: I'm guessing 3 by what the webpage says not sure, you can interpret it (Power ON/OFF, 1, DOWN (), UP ( ), & 2 ) gotta love those buttons and not having to go through onscreen displays, sony wins Sony 3 Viewsonic 2 Power-management: Sony: international energy star, vesa dpms, and nutek compliant Viewsonic: energy star compliant both have energy star but sony is internationally compliant, sony wins but viewsonic is being efficient so they win a little too Sony 4 Viewsonic 2.25 Looks of the whole package: + are based on a 1 scale with ++++ being highest when compared to the other monitor Sony +++ Viewsonic + both look like computer screens and not supermodels, rather boxy I'd say, sony wins Sony 4.75 Viewsonic 2.50 Price: Sony 357.00 Viewsonic 253.00 Sony 4.75 Viewsonic 3.75 Sony doesn't win on price but... In the end sony wins KLIPSCH RULES!!!
  25. I feel like I have to post due to the size of this post... hofy when is the discount gonna occur, it's tax time and I wouldn't want to see you get taxed on all that inventory, let us know how the sale goes...
