  1. Thanks for help fellas!!! My heart skipped a beat when I went to turn on my system and nothing happened. Luckily I still have the Adcom 5400 for a back up until I can get to RS. I have it hooked up now and everything seems normal so I dont think there is any damage done to the pre. Gosh, had no idea I was commiting a NO NO. Dennie, the driver to my RF-7 is on back order now [8o|] They are supposed to get back with me in the AM and give an ETA. I was pretty fearful the two may have been related. The amp failing and all. For some reason I always fear the worst. Should I look into some sort of power conditioner? How much will that set me back? Well it seems things are back into somewhat of a wavy line. Just where it needs be. Gotta keep on the toes. Thanks again guys! Matt
  2. Thanks wuzzer, I will plug directly into a wall outlet after the smoke clears. I did not know this.
  3. [:|] [:S] you could have told me that first thing! As the smoke clears!!! No! all is fine! [] I found 3 fuses. 2 are solid white ceramic looking. 1 is clear glass. I put an ohm meter to them and one of the two white ones did not ohm out. The other two tested good. My guess is this maybe the culprit. The circuit board calls for 10 A/250V on all three. I will replace all three fuses. Do I need to replace them with the 2 whites and 1 clear as they are? The 2 white ones run parallel with each other and the clear one is in its own place on the same board. Thanks, Matt
  4. Hi There Dennie, very good to hear from you also!!! I kinda thought it might be something as simple as a fuse but was unwilling to open anything up until I got some suggestions. Today has been quite stressful and this was the last thing I wanted to worry about. The only thing I could think about when it happened was $$$. [8o|] I will take the top off now and get back with you. Thanks Man, Matt
  5. Hello all, My newly aquired M-80 has been funtioning flawlessly. Today, before leaving the house I powered everything down just as always. The amp is powered through a switched receptacle on the Adcom pre. This is how I have always turned it on and off. When I returned, went to power my system and the only thing that came on was the Adcom. Nothing from the Yamaha! No lights, sound, nothing. I tried a alternate unswitched outlet. Same outcome. I dont understand, one minute all is well. Go to power back up and it is dead. Tomorrow I am going to take it to a local repair tech. I would really like to know of your opinions first though. Thanks for your time and Keep on a Rockin'! Matt
  6. I pretty much refuse to even try going vinyl. I really dont understand the incredible draw to this media source. But, listening how everyone around here raves about their experiences and some of the rare finds I would suggest you purchase those 70's-80's rock and roll frisbees as fast as possible. If it turns out to be something other than you were hoping, its only $50. On the other hand you may have found a little gold mine. I have a feeling you may already be to late. Where are you located [:^)]
  7. [8o|] I sure would like to know what SPL reading I had the other day. Fried a driver in my beatiful RF-7's. I know exactly when it happened. 1st thought, "well that can't be good"!!! Thank goodness for warranties and a very helpful local D&M Sound. New driver already on its way (no questions). Gotta love dem' Klipsch. [^o)]in-line fuses[^o)]
  8. AS THE SMOKE CLEARS, "WHAT WAS THAT ROCKO?" [:S]
  9. BC, After removing the plastic port, be sure to clean off all the the old glue from both the plastic and the wood. Before applying the silicone you may want to even use some heavy grit sand paper to roughen the surface of the plastic, this will help it adhere to the plastic. GE makes a very good silicone. This stuff is messy so be sure to have some mineral spirits on hand. Let us know how it works. [] Matt
  10. BC, I looked at mine and the plastic ports appear to be fitted and glued. Try to gently remove one for inspection. The glue may have failed and the plastic is vibrating against the wood. If this is the case I would use a quality silicone to re-install the ports. The silicone will remain plyable and should solve your problem if that is where the noise is actually coming from. Good luck! Matt
  11. HITCH HIKING TO MAINE!!! CALL YA WHEN I GET THERE! [Y] []
  12. Ive got to tell you Dennie, you are the "Wizard of Pics".[] Man are you good. where do you keep all this hidden material (data). It would take me 30 minutes just to find a good picture of muslin. another 30 minutes to figure out how to load it again. Id never get any sleep[:S] Just takes some practice? Im gonna get some sleep brother, thanks for all the tips and guidance. Keep a rockin' [O]
  13. Thanks for all the direction, I want these things to do what they are intended to do so if that means I have to use plaid then plaid it is. That makes sense for a loosley woven fab. My mom spends alot of time at all the sewing/knitting places so I think she will want to help. Its always fun to include momma...
  14. [+o(] Dennie!!! you cant be serious? [8-|]
  15. Thanks Dennie, I am going to gather all the needed materials this weekend. This will be a fun little weekend project for me. I had a friend over last night and he was blown away by how "clean" my system sounds. I think these treatments will be the icing on the cake. What do you think about fabric color? Should I get something like white with brown frames (some what blend but noticable)? White frames? Brown fabric? Off white? white/white, more hidden? Ideas? Keep a rockin'[] Matt
  16. A little different huh? Sound really bounces around in here. I was planning on putting panels in the corner on each wall, two on the back wall, one on the door(cant see in pic) and then maybe one more in the middle of the circular wall (per Dennie suggestion). I am pretty excited to hear the improvement. I did a little research on panels and they all say to use Owens Corning 703, which is hard to find apperantly. I have a full work shop in my basement so building them wont be a problem. I cant wait to get started. It seems to be getting more noticable now that I know the problem[^o)] I think I have all the material besides the fiberglass.
  17. [] I think this will be my next step. My listening area has some very odd angles and lots of concrete. My house can best be described as a circular tri-level treehouse like thing (pictures [^o)]) Its a fun place to live but acoustically more like a cave. I think a few panels behind the couch will help with the echo problem? Yea, I know, odd apartment. I built it on an underground parking garage ramp. It is underneath a large hotel downtown. The garage space has since been converted into other use areas now so the ramp is no longer in service (all mine [])
  18. I have been asked if I was going to bi-wire by a couple of different people. Should I bi-wire my RF-7's to The Yamaha M-80? What advantages are there to this setup? Is it advisable? How do I do it? My system seems fine to me. I am running 10 gauge wire now and thought that would be plenty. I dont really understand why I should/not bi-wire. My next planned upgrade was going to be wall treatments. What should I do? Thanks for your time...Matt
  19. The meager beginnings of my my dream system. Well on its way though. I see no end, darnit where did my pocket book go... http://s785.photobucket.com/albums/yy132/mattao1970/?action=view&current=DSCN1032.jpg'>
  20. WOW!!! 400 bucks! Congrats on the find. I know you will enjoy them. I love mine. Powering them with 250wpc Yammy. They sound incredible!!!
  21. [6]HEAT IS BAD[6] Dennie, I looked at Oppo. I think maybe I was expecting something else. I have a Hitachi DVD player now that I play my music on. Will something like an Oppo sound better? I am looking for something to improve sound and really dont know the differences between these things. The only thing I do know is what the local shop told me. Get good DAC's. I am not against a stand alone CD unit but have to wonder how much quality I will actually be gaining. Everything sounds very good now. Will there be a dramatic difference with something of higher quality? Should I just use what I got? [^o)] hi-jacked thread[8o|] []
  22. []pretending that I am rolling around on the floor laughing out loud![] You guys are great! My RF-7's make the dishes in another room fall off the shelves...must have them!!! [Y]
  23. Thanks Dennie, I did not know what QSC stood for. I am thinking about looking into the laptop fan. I have these really cool cast aluminum feet I picked up somewhere many years ago. They are about 3" in diameter and 1 3/4 high. Im thinking if I mount them it will raise the amp up enough to slide a trick little fan underneath. 2 birds one stone (ultra cool polished aluminum feet). My amp is exposed on all sides and nothing on top of it so I know it is getting proper ventilation. I know how much you enjoy pictures so I am going to pick up a charger for my digital so I can take some good photos for you guys. Probably not until the weekend though. Also, any ideas on a CD player? Is DVD ok for music? I want something quality but dont want to spend a fortune. I also play mp3 sometimes. There is just so much out there. Thanks for all your help!!! [][][Y]
  24. Frzninvt Thanks for the heads up on a CD player. Im going to start my search tonight. Wish me luck[^o)] Keep a rockin'
