  1. Thank you all for the replies. I will report back when I decide what to do. Right now I'm attempting to sell the house and move to the beach so I'm easily distracted but still motivaed.
  2. My Cornwalls are beat up looking but sound just fine. They have the Crites crossover in them but all else is original. Now I can't decide if I should build or hybridize the cornwalls into a set of Cornscala's or look at a set of Altec model 19's. Has anyone heard the Altec 19's? Am I splitting hairs? I don't have deep pockets so I can't buy them all and try them out.But a thousand here and a thousand there and pretty soon you're talking about some real money. What do you guys think? Would be using a Fisher 500 tube receiver and Marantz CD player through a Musical Fidelity DAC to listen to jazz, female vocals and some pop-ish type music. No more rock and roll...well not that much anyway.I'm too drained for excess rock. If not the Fisher tube than a Sansui integrated AUGX 77ii with the same cd player. Moderate volume levels unless the wife goes crazy and cuts loose...as can happen with the correct music.Pray for me. If this is in the wrong slot I apoligize.I don't write much but I read much. Please relocate it if necessary.Thank you.
  3. Enjoyed reading this and the pics were great.Seems like you nailed it.I have a set of Cornwall which are my dedicated biamped speakers.I think they are very good but know they could be awesome with some help. To be honest some of these threads about upgrading the Cornwall to Cornscala loose me with all the alphanumeric code being offered. Would you consider condensing the upgrades you did as a list.Remove original/install upgrade part? While reading its confusing to go between the JBL's and the Cornwall originals and then toss in the upgrade numbers and letters. I'm thinking of going with Bob Crites CT125's and appreciate the work you did to reveal the differences in that and the original. My crossover has been upgraded using the Crites set up.

  5. Man I could really use some help here.I'm looking at these two cd players because they both use the TDA1541 DAC.I can put my hands on either of the PhilMags but the Sony is not to be found. So given that the TDA1541 is what makes the coveted sound what do you guys think? Should I hold out for the Sony or get the PM470,PM471 @ less than $100? This will be fed into either one of my resurrection projects which are either a Kenwood KA-8100 w/60w per ch or a Marantz 1090 w/45 w per ch..Speakers available would be KG4's,Heresy's or KLH 23's( thank you clermontcop). The music is mostly jazz, some blue grass, not too much rock, some smokey vocals like Johnny Hartman et al.Volume does not really go past 9 o'clock for the most part.
  6. Matt if money were no object I could be a "Heretic" (BTW mine are from 1982...not 1978)
  7. Chris, I caught your ping while cruising the forum threads.Man my computer went off the deep end this week.Lost all my emails and much other stuff.Had problems with other forums as well getting on and surfing fleabay and CL.I can't seem to catch you by the pm method here so you could straight email me at tomward1@aol.com. Hey...I appreciate the effort on your part but I'm dogging a Pioneer SX 950 right now and the jing for a cd player got sidetracked when I couldn't pm you. Damn...happens to me all the time.Had a line on a set of Heresy 1's but they were in Florida and I couldn't get there quick enough.
  8. Now thats an opinion I can use right there.
  9. Ladies and Gentlemen...the deal fell through...but not to worry. I have a line on two Pioneer units. One is the SX650 and the other is the SX750. Whats a man to do? All things being equal which should I pick and why? They will drive the KG4's and then the Heresy1's when I get them home. Whatdayathingk?
  10. This TX901 is difficult to find any specs on.Maybe the seller has paper.
  11. Wish me luck everyone.Just got an email with a phone number and instructions to call in the morning about directions. Could be good...Hey,for $20 bucks? C'mon.
  12. Well I'm running a set of KG4' with a 9090 and I love them. Also have a Sansui 4000 that sounds outstanding with the same KG4's.So I think you got a winner on your hands there. You WILL NOT be able to turn the volume past the nine o'clock position. It will scare the concrete into submission if you do! Did I say how much I love my Sansui 9090-Klipsch KG4's combo?
  13. If I can get a time set with the seller to go pick it up! One of the few times when I scored something as inexpensive as this.Hope I can get it and he does not change his mind. Thanks for the response
  14. getting interested in a new cd player.Thinking about a sony 222es. Question I guess is this or these...how do I determine the quality of the cd's recording? Used to be a code aad I believe but thats done away with nowadays. And how do I determine what cd player to use? The digital analog converter? I'm looking for a used cd player less than $200.
  15. Looking around for a really cheap deal on almost anything and I came across this unit for $20. Does anyone have experience with Onkyo in general and this unit in particular. Not the TXNR 901.I have seen the reviews on that but don't find anything on the TX 901 but one. That review was generally good and stated that Onkyo was also well thought of but with no frills which is o.k. with me. Hey...for $20 bucks...c'mon.I'll put it out in the garage no problem at that price. Here is a pic: Whatdaya thingk?
  16. Alright people.Listen up to me now! I'm the new guy here and I'm not really sure what I can get away with as far as language goes. So I'll just say HOLY CRAP!!! I posted a thread a few days ago when I first got these KG4's home saying that one side sounded "weak". So about half an hour ago I went over to the speaker to take a photo of the crossover and put it up online for you all to oggle like I did when I first saw it.Nice and clean looking.Just a truly beautiful thing. So I take the screwdriver to the top squawker and remove it.Well...what did I find!??? One wire was not attached to that squawker!!!HOLY CRAP BATMAN...that means ONE SIDE WAS WEAK ALRIGHT!!! So...I hooked it the hell up and whipped out my Buddy Guy album."Damn Right I Got the Blues". HOLY FREAKING MAKERAL!!! Imagine my suprise when the KG4's came to life in full dress?!!! DAMN,Paul!!! You done it now man! Goosebumps does not describe how the largest organ in my body reacted! HOLY CRAP! did I say that already? Damn Buddy. Can't wipe that smile off my face! KNOW WHAT I MEAN?! Imagine that? I thought they were good when I had that wire disco'd! WoWzER! C'mon man! Smile with me now! Then I hit the "Five Long Years" track and then "Black Night" then swithced to his other album "Feels Like Rain" and went straight to "She's Nineteen Years Old" C'mon man....pHewwwwww! I'm feeling the power of love again!
  17. Any idea what they retailed for back in '88?
  18. Yes I think they are Jackson.Enjoying them very much.
  19. O.K. I'll do that.Thank you Cask
  20. Both the KG4's and this forum. I actually go to bed and can't wait to get up in the moring to listen to my KG4's. Of course I'm a newcomer to Klipsch.I knew the name but just never got it.Well now in addition to the KG4's there is a set of Heresy 1's coming my way. The information I read on this board is great. But!!! what is everyone talking about with the arithmetic of sound and I guess acoustics when they talk of how far the speakers are away and the height and angle and such? I kind of realize that sound is a wave and objects get in the way of that wave but I'd like to read about some of this background info.Reflections and traps, the sweet spot etc. I looked inside my KG4's and the crossover looks brand new to me! My heart was racing! I can hear the singer breathing! I can hear his fingers on the guitar strings! These are cd's being played on a Sansui 9090 and the volume does not go above 9 o'clock. I read online about Paul Klipsch.A very cool dude,I think.
  21. Thank you so much for the response Oblio.I'll give it a try and report back.
  22. Well I just got finished reading about Mr.Paul W.Klipsch.Very cool dude indeed and lived to 98! After reading some posts in the forum here it rekindled a suspicion I had on the weak speaker problem.Could it be the reciever? Well yes I guess it could but I had not noticed it before. So I will attempt to run that one down and see if I can eliminate that piece of the puzzle.
  23. Good morning board.I'm the newest Klipsch forum member having just signed up last night after bringing home a set of KG4's.They will be powered by a Sansui 9090 and mostly I will be listening to CD's.Some fm music too but its a 90/10 split. One speaker seems "weak" or weaker than the other. So I swapped over the left and right speaker wires. No change.Of course I tuned the left and right side power knob and the weak one will play but not as powerful as the strong side. The weak speaker will play but let me put it this way if that was the only KG4 I ever heard I'd not be impressed. Now the other one ....the one with power...is like "Arnold"! Wow...I love it.So whats up with the "weaker speaker"? AND are there replacement speakers available from Klipsch? One of the midrangers in the good speaker has a small 7-8mm slice in it.Price? What symptoms would I notice indicating a recapping would be in order? Thank you
