  1. Thanks Deang This will be my first venture into the amp world, so I want to wade in the water versus plunging from the diving board. With the reviews of the amp and a <$200 price tag, if he sells it, I'll get it. What is so different about the two other amps that you mentioned?
  2. Please forgive me if this is redundant, but I do not remember a past thread that addressed this. I'm a 90% 2-channel music listener with a tinge for HT. Being that 2-channel is my concern, are there in musical benefits to using a 2-channel power amp solely for the fronts and a second 3-channel amp for the center and surrounds? Also, if I go with one 5-channel amp and I'm listening to 2-channel music, will there be any degradation to the music considering I'm only using two of the five channels? A friend is considering selling me his older Yamaha MX-800 2-channel power amplifier. The reviews on it are really good considering its production date. I do not want to pass up on the opportunity to put those 200 watts per channel on my KLF 30s to see how they sound. I just want to know the advantages and disadvantages of either alternative. Thanks EE
  3. MobileHomeless/TalkToKeith That was just my crack at humor. I'm going to purchase some new interconnects but I will not post the results on this board. I'm thoroughly convinced that some are for them and others are against them. I'm looking at the silver serpents optical and coax, what do you know about these? Easy
  4. Does everyone's skepticism hold true for interconnects also? If so, please stay tuned for my new post in the near future, "Premium Interconnects" My family's Test II. Go ahead, I want to hear the arguments before my purchase; I might just save myself some money. If you say that interconnects make a difference and speaker wire doesn't, why not? How many of you really connect your systems up with the rca connectors that come along with your purchase? EE
  5. Wow, 183 posts on speaker cable. Initially, I entered this not generate so many posts but simply to say that I recognized the difference that my "premium cable" made to the sound that I hear from my speakers. I wonder how many of those advocating the scientific approach and sealed room tests have actually tried the so-called cable on their system. I'm an avid reader of any material/information relating to anything that I'm involved in as we all are, but with so many opinions on cable; how can one come to a substantiated conclusion without trying it for themselves? In an earlier thread someone mentioned that the founder of the horn-loaded speaker, PWK himself wasn't very fond of premium cable. His belief was that any lamp cord material or the likes would work. I wonder how he feels today considering that the company that was founded on his beliefs is now including "premium" wire on the inside of its new, top of the line speakers. Surely, if someone appreciates the difference that wire inside the speaker would make, why not the wire on the outside? Again, it's really nice to hear so many varied opinions for and against "premium cable". Some are really persuading and heart felt but I'm a very simple type of individual, I'll continue to let what I hear be the determining factor on what I purchase for my system. EasyEyes
  6. It's amazing to me that one requires a physics degree and must conduct a myriad of listening tests in order to decide whether cable A sounds better than cable B. Yet, some spend thousands on speakers and even more on the equipment to push them, and not being open to the idea of speaker cable making a difference. I guess than I should not mention that I'm considering purchasing some "premium" interconnects to connect my dvd and cd player to my receiver. I must admit that initially I was ignorant to the cable facts and tests, that isn't the case anymore, I've been thoroughly educated. In an earlier post someone mentioned that PWK, the creator of the legendary horn didn't care much about cable and said that anything would work. Well, considering that was years ago and maybe the cables then weren't as advanced as they are now, what would PWK say about the new reference series being wired with "premium" cable on the inside. Some may say that's on the inside and not the outside. If cable makes improvements on the inside what will it do for the outside? Easyeyes
  7. Thanks for the inputs. My sony does not have any preout, that's partly my dilema--auditioning a product w/o bringing it home. I have a friend (Craig6519) who lives around the corner from me who as several acurus 3-channel amps. I will take him up on his offer to listen with his new additions. Colin, though I'm living in England all my purchases are with the mighty dollar. Of course, rotel being british made I can purchase them with pounds from here. But the exchange rate doesn't work out to my advantage. This is the reason that I'm looking at a U.S. supplier. Ear, are you saying that I should look at increasing the wpc to 200-250? The 1080 sounds like an excellent and the reviews aren't bad either. But, I do not want to box myself in just in case I want to pursue the HT area down the road. Please forgive me for my audio ineptness, but I haven't heard alot about ATI. I will investigate a little further.
  8. My system consists of KLF 30s and a Sony HT (DTR 835) receiver to push them. Right now I'm a 90% music listener and 10 percent movie watcher. I'm wanting to upgrade my system but I do not want to go the high-end receiver route to include a 5-channel amp. I like to listen to clean music, the 30s reveal enough but I feel that with a few additions it could do better. I'm thinking more of separates for 2-channel but I want to leave the door open for HT surround just in case I get the itch. I've researched the rotel 1070 and parasound 5-channel amps, some say go for the 200+ wpc range but I do not want all of that weight in my living room if it's not needed. How would the 30s with their 100+ sensitivity sound with an amp in the 120-125 wpc range? Are these a good choice of amps? I'm not looking to play ear-splitting music all of the time but when the need arises, (when wife and kids are gone)I will. I'm looking for something that will sound very good, clean and pure at low levels but it must hold its on when cranked also. I value your inputs. P.S. I'm not looking for a Cadillac at a Chevrolet price. I want the best at the price range I decide to purchase at.
  9. Talk to Keith, No, I haven't bi-wired my 30s yet. A friend came over to the house the other night, he has 30s also and he mentioned bi-wiring. The entire cable thing is new to me, what improvement(s) can I expect with bi-wiring? Right now, I doing research on a new receiver. I've narrowed it down to the Denon 3802 or the Onkyo 797, right now I'm leaning toward the 787. With the newer models coming out I'm playing the wait and see if the price goes down game. I will make my purchase right after the new year. My old used sony has done me proud, but my 30s are crying for mor power.
  10. My test was strictly audible, the difference the I heard with my ears at the same volume. It's hard to believe that people, myself included will spend thousands on speakers, even more on amps/preamps, processors, high-end receivers, interconnects and the perpetual list can go on and on relative to each individual system and not be willing to invest miniscule amounts into cable to see if there's a difference. Many of the cables advertised on the net have money back guarantees, take the plunge, order some to see if they sound better than the off-the-shelf brands. If you are not satisfied with the results or the lack thereof, send them back for a complete refund minus shipping costs. I'm in the UK and it was right at $5 for shipping. Performing all the high-end tests takes too much time. Personally, I'll put more stake into what I hear, as unscientific as it is, versus what some meter or a particular stat is telling me or furthermore what some guy in a magazine or audiophile editorial says. My original wire was some cheap $9 stuff that says it was OFC, to be honest it sounded great with my KLF 30s. If I invested over $1,800 (MFRSP)_ into some speakers for the purpose of improved sound, it makes sense to try $50 worth of cable to possibly receive more enhanced sound. If none of you have tried the so-called "premium" cable before, whay don't you give it a try. If your test concludes with no gain, what have you lost? Nothing! EasyEyes
  11. Thanks for all the post, negative or positive--which I do not think any were positive, maybe one in its own way was sarcastically positive. My test, as unscientific as it may have been was exactly that, my test. My intentions were not to proselyte any of you to the "premium cable" clan. I do not understand a lot of what was said about conducting an unbiased, fool-proof theory of so-called premium cable improves sound. As all of you know, the true test of whether an addition to your system is worth it is based on personal perception. Again, I'm not trying to justify why I spent $50 bucks of my hard earned money, it sounded and still sounds better than my previous wire. Being new to home theater and Klipsch, my objective is to get the best sound that I can at a price threshold that I'm comfortable with. If a small investment into cable produces a satisfactory result to me, I'll take it. EasyEyes
  12. I know that this topic has been discussed on many occasions and I'm familiar with both sides of the argument. Now, that I've spent a few dollars of my own money, I can say that I have noticed the difference between the spool speaker cable and "premium" cable. My cables arrived yesterday, hooked my right KLF 30 with the IXOS 6003 Gamma wire and the left speaker remained connected with the off the shelf OFC wire. The sound from the IXOS connected speaker was louder, more pronounced and better sounding. The bass was tighter and the mids/highs were more apparent. I actually had to readjust my settings after final connection. Actually, the other side sounded rather muffled. My wife nor my kids saw me change the one wire. After connection, I asked my wife and oldest son (7 years old)to stand in the middle of the speakers, about 10 ft apart, an see if there was a difference. Well, both of them thought something was wrong with the left speaker, they said that the right one sounded clearer and louder. I know that some of you will not change your minds and argue to the contrary. IMO the $50 bucks that I just spent was a good investment. I too was and still am skeptical to a point when it comes to spending "high dollar" amounts on speaker cable. To me, this was a good investment and guess what, my system sounded even better when I connected the IXOS to the other speaker.
  13. Earle, I'm considering the 3802 for purchase in a few months, please post a review of the new unit (sound, bass etc) once you have it set and tweeked.
  14. The Ear/Myram Thanks for your reply. I've heard a lot of good things about Denon, I have a CD player by them and it's been great. I wish that availability would allow me to try both units simultaneously, but that's hard to coordinate being overseas. This is why I really enjoy this BB, where else can you come as close to having it yourself without the cost? Thanks Easyeyes
  15. I'm thinking of purchasing a 3802 or Onkyo 787/797 around the new year. I've heard that the denon line up is extremely bright when matched with KLF 30s, in you opinion what is the sound? I'm looking for something that's going to push the 30s but still have a tight, high-end sound. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated on the denon and onkyo. Thanks
  16. BobG/PhilG There was a huge music show in London several weeks ago, I was anticipating the new and old Klipsch products being there. I looked at almost every brochure that was offered and I did not see any mention of your company whatsoever. It would have been worth jumping on the tube into London to experience the new products. Maybe, myself and some other American Klipsch fans will have to jump in a vehicle and drive to your authorized dealer here. Can you tell me whether the shop has received any of the new reference line.
  17. I'm new to HT and the BB, although my posts do not reflect it, I'm on here almost every day. I've learned a lot from just reading different posts, at this moment I'm not adept enough to comment, so I don't. Sure, we all are know something about a myriad of subjects but no one person can know everything about every subject, that's why it's great to have a place to bounce it off of someone else. If know one else appreciates what you "veterans" are saying--I do. So, please continue with the honest and thoughtful suggestions that you are giving. Like myself, there's a lot more out there who are soaking it in without saying a word.
  18. Craig 6519, Another night of working with the dual SVSs and the new equalizer that you picked up, how is it going? I thought something such as the equalizer would made the subs sound better, but in your case, it's not working out that way. Let me know how you progress with this work in action.
  19. Avman, I see that you are in the Big Easy. I lived in Shreveport/Bossier City for 7 years. I've been to N.O. several times, but no desire to do the mardis gras thing. The weather here in England is completely different than the humidity of Louisiana. Who are you buying your Klipsch from? I tried the authorized dealer in Bossier, and they aren't very helpful or knowledgeable about the new products.
  20. Thanks avman, since I'm not too concerned about the radio, I'm leaning toward the A2. Craig 6519 Yes, it is an expensive hobby and No, I'm not going to sell you my 30s, stop asking. But, since you are having problems with those dual SVS 20-39s, sell me one of them; I'll come by your house tonight and pick it up.
  21. I'm mostly a music listener and the majority of the reviews that I've read were critical on the A2's musical ability.
  22. I have the opportunity to purchase a DSP-A2 integrated amp or a 2095 receiver. I can get the A2 with remote for $800 and the 2095 for $700 without remote(s). Both items were returned to store as is, they are in good working condition and the warranty is intact for both. Having the tuner in the 2095 will not benefit me because I do not listen to the radio. I'm not really into home theater now even though I have the setup. Mostly, I like to put in CDs and listen to music. I currently have a Sony DTR-835 that I bought used from a friend. Since I'm new to HT I thought that it would take me a while to out grow the 835, it only took 6 mos. The 30s sound like they are begging for more power. I feel as though I missing something in the music. My mains are KLF-30s, center is the C-7 and I considering the RS-7s in the future. When I turn the volume up on the Sony my speakers clip at the 1200 position. I'm sure that either would be a considerable step up from the sony but I solicit your input on both the A2 and the 2095. For curiosity sake, I've also looked at the Outlaw 1050, is this receiver in the same league as the A2 and 2095? Thanks Easyeyes
  23. BobG/PhilH Living in the UK makes it extremely difficult(expensive) to purchase Klipsch products. I know that you now have an authorized dealer in the UK but I get paid in US dollars not English Pounds. I'm looking at purchasing a set of RS-7s, if I'm not mistaken the MSRP is $900. If you're asking this price in dollars, the English dealers will be asking the same thing in Pounds. The exchange rate today is 1.44, meaning: I will have to multiply 900(English Pounds)X 1.44(Exchange Rate) = $1,296 US Dollars. The final price does not include the 16-17% VAT (value added tax) that will be added. Before we could purchase some Klipsch products from the Base Exchange stores but they no longer sale the high-end products. They say that they are too expensive and the ordinary person will not pay for them. In fact, to get rid of some KLF 30s that were sitting in warehouses for some time, they went on clearance for $387 a pair. I got my pair for $600, after they realized they were selling them too cheap. I know quite a few people here who have high-end Klipsch products and would like to purchase more. The extra price that we will have to pay on the British economy makes the purchase less appealing. The question for me is, am I willing to pay $300+ more to purchase them from an authorized dealer? No, I'm not willing to do that. I know that this issue has been talked about over and over again, but some of us are really in some tight positions. This is a situation that merits some looking into. The two authorized dealers that I've talked to in the states (IL and LA)do not have current internet sites that I can order from. If you would sell them to me directly from Klipsch at the price of unauthorized internet dealers, I'll purchase them from you. What do you say about this, is it a deal or what?
  24. Davec, Where are you getting your KLF-10s from for 600.00? I'm looking at passing on the RS-7s and going with some 10s or 20s for the rears since I have the space.
  25. ForestHump, The English people voted for Labour again. They'll try again in 4-5 years.
