  1. What's your budget for the A/V receiver? I'm waiting for info on the "white gloves" myself................I don't have a clue!
  2. Moravec, three things: 1. I never said I was sane. 2. Good big freaking speakers sound good at any db. (If it's too loud, you're too old.) 3. My wife understands how an HT should be run. I worked hard for a lotta years to get something that is not, as you say "cheapo" and I play 'em.
  3. Everybody on this forum that I have ever read says to get the biggest best center speaker you can afford. I pretty much agree with 'em. The center just about carries all the dialogue from the movie sound track. As far as the RC 64 goes, I bought one to go between 2 khorns because I had a space problem (an expensive Lexington cherry 3 piece entertainment center that absolutely had to stay.) I know they all say that Reference and Heritage are like oil and water, but it does fine if you're not a purist fanatic. It holds its own rather well, especially anywhere from the -5db to -15db on my receiver. The wife even one night let me run "Master and Commander" at +3db one night for company. Needless to say, people were dodgin' cannon balls and flying frigate parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Wuzzer, and your final goal is................................????????????????????????????????
  5. You got a hexagon shaped room in your place? How else can you do it????????????
  6. iTide, luv your Tide logo!!! My blood runneth Crimson and big time!! Now, I guess back to the Boxee Box. Never heard of it. Will Google it up and study on it some. My DSL was supposed to be upgraded to 6 mb/sec, but it's not; anywhere from 3 to 5 is what I'm gettin'. So I'm leary of the performance I'd be getting from the Roku XR-HD which I wanted. Thanks for responding.
  7. Welcome to the HT forum first of all. I figure to get all Heritage gear (Cornwalls or Heresyies) and a receiver and stay within 2 grand, you're gonna have to go used on the speakers I figure. 3 CW's (l and r mains and center) and 2 Heresyies would be cool to anybodies ears. 2 CW's (l and r mains) and a Heresy center and 2 Heresyies as side surrounds for a 5.1 would be cool too. 5 CW's would be best, but the madness has to stop somewhere or you'll be like the rest of us! As for your receiver, there's tons of 'em out there. IMO I'd trust a used speaker for sure over a used amp, but, like I say, it's just MHO. Good luck and happy listenin'.
  8. I was looking for a center channel speaker about 3 months ago. I got an RC 64 to go between my Khorns because I absolutely couln't fit anything else in. It's OK, but it's not kick butt where I got it. Wuzzer is right. Get the very, very best center channel speaker you can afford and have space for. You will not be sorry for the money you spent on this speaker; it's the ticket especially for movies.............
  9. We have the WRT 160 N Lyyksys. I was planning on the HD XR because our router is upstairs. Thanks for the input; I've just about made my mind up to get the HD XR; that is as soon as Centurylink gets my DSL up to 6 MB/sec. Thanks again, I was thinking that nobody was gonna respond.
  10. I just found out we could upgrade our DSL to 6 mb/sec from our old 1.5 so we did. Now am thinking about a Roku box. Anybody out there have a Roku box hooked up to their HT? How's the sound and pic? Any trouble with your router or will our moderately old wireless N Lynksys work OK? I figure you connect it like any other input souce, right? HDMI out of the Roku and into your A/V rec and then HDMI out to your TV, right? Any advice mucho appreciated.
  11. Anybody try Avatar in their own HT? Does it rank up there with Terminator Salvation and This Is It?
  12. Anybody out there EVER have a "good" experience from bi-amping the center speaker to get a little more "authority" in this channel?
  13. To me, all Klipsch stuff is good. I'm predjuced about Heritage gear I guess since that's what I've got. Also to me "listenin' is better than thinkin'." I don't think you can ever go wrong by listening first.
  14. Sorry, two typos...............best money I've ever spent, not spend. And it did help mine, not didn?????????????? I'll be better proofreading next time.
  15. I've had an old pair of Khorns for years which I incorporated into an HT a few weeks back. I thought with their bass I wouldn't need a sub. A friend talked me into getting one. I got a Klipsch RW 12 d; in short, best HT money I guess I've spend. I'm guessin a sub would help any system; it didn mine. Marantz 5004 A/V R Khorn fronts RC 64 center KG 1's surrounds RW 12 d sub Samsung 1600 BD Samsung DVD/VCR Rec 3500 Dish DSS and Sharp HD LCD 42 TV
  16. Gee, guys, isn't this a double post? Ya'll kinda came down on me for a late post on Terminator Salvation, but it's cool. Ya'll are all happy now 'cause we have universal heath care.
  17. Get a good centre speaker for your Khorns, because I've heard it here, and it's true, that your front stage 3 speakers are about 90% of your HT. I got a RC 64 and it's good, BUT if space had permitted, a LaScala or Belle or a Cornwall woulda been better. But as I've read, It is what it is.
  18. Everybody on here that has an HT with a BD, this post is for you. If you don't invest the time to watch Terminator Salvation, you're missing a treat. It will, I promise, blow you away.
  19. Just got it from Netflix this AM. Watched Marine 2 this PM, not bad but screenplay not up to video/audio. The sub gets a good workout though. I'm glad I caught ya'll on this thread; tomorrow I'll look forward to Terminator Salvation on BR.k
  20. Well, JB, I don't know jack about HT, BUT I do know about horses. What kind you got in mind, racking or quarter?
  21. Well, for me anyway. I know a LaScala would be better for center than the RC 64 which I have. I know some Heresys would be much better than the KG 1's I've got that are doing surround duty.. I figure a 9.1 or a 7.1 set-up would be better than my 5.1. I figure a dedicated room for HT instead of an ordinary den would be better still. BUT last nite I put the movie for kids ("9") in my Blu-ray and cranked it up. I was totally blown away. So I know now what the secret of the Ultimate HT is. It's not having what you want, But wanting what you have.................It is OK to enjoy what you got, isn't it????????????
  22. I've had Cornwalls and upgraded to Klipschorns; all the while I had 'em (the Cornwalls) I never tried 'em on their side. I'd just guess and say that from what your center stage is equipped with, I could sit in front of it with a cold beer and be happy as a pig in slop, but I'm a country red-neck so what the hell do I know?
  23. Stx, I don't think you can go wrong with Marantz and Klipsch. I've had Heritage gear since the late 70's and some more in the mid 80's. I'm sure the RF series are good, but you need to listen to some Heritage gear before you buy. Like Neo said, Heresyies for the dough I don't think you can beat. Khorn fronts; KG 1's side surrounds; RC 64 centre; RW 12d Sub; Blu-ray, DVD/VCR Rec; CD; DSS; 42 LCD HDTV
  24. I just measured mine and here it is: as you know the top is a pentagon, the long side (front) is 34 1/4", from the tip of the apex of the pentagon to the front (I guess you'd say "depth") is 27" and in one piece they are 53" tall and they are heavy as hell!! I'd get help and a U-Haul and still round up plenty of blankets. I carried one off several years ago for some problem that I don't even remember now and we used a pick-up truck FOR JUST ONE. Good luck, one thing's for sure though, you get 'em home in one piece and set 'em up and whatever it took, you'll forget in a hurry when you start listenin' to 'em..............
  25. Thanks to all the kind folks I met at the Klipsch HT forum, especially Wuzzer, and a little help from the engineers at Marantz, I'm finally done with my HT upgrade. I just had to see first thing if all the little "scoot-guards" my wife put under all her nic-nacs would work, so I put in a bluray of Top Gun first. I figure if stuff stayed on the shelf with an F-14 leaving the flight deck, everything else I could throw at it would be OK. Oh yeah, the link to pics of my partly new and partly old HT is: http://pbckt.com/sZ.3Y
