  1. Okay so that would mean i would have to acquire active crossovers right? I was considering splitting the signal from the receiver (hk3490) running it to the amp and then removing the jumpers on the speakers and running those two sets of speaker wires to the seperate terminals. I thought this still utilized the internal crossovers. I believe this speaker is a 2.5 or maybe even a 3 way. It is a jamo 707i
  2. Yeah i don't believe you can bridge any emotiva amps. This may make a good topic over at the emotiva lounge, someone link me if you start it or i may eventually get around to starting one.
  3. I was going to ask the same thing. I recently gave my parents a upa-5 for future use but they only have 2 speakers right now. There is no reason to not use this as a 2 channel amp right? Would i be better off using 4 of the channels and bi-amping?
  4. keep the 3808 and buy an emotiva xpa-5 while they are on sale. Or else sell the 3808 and get a processor to go along with the amplifier. Congrats on the rf-7ii i love mine
  5. I am upgradiing to a RC64II this week. I have always set the crossovers to 80- Htz on Audyssey and set speakers to small...is this waht you guys suggest? yep i suggest that. You will still get all of your hd codecs with an amp. Well as long as you are breaking out the wallet how about some rf-7ii?
  6. A little more power than the rc-62ii needs but overpowering good speakers is just fine. That is a great amp to buy. Nothing like getting a new amp with a warranty. I just got a upa-5 and love the build quality.
  7. Customer service was very helpful for me. I bought this unit used so i am guessing they would not just send me a replacement, they would fix the one i have. I would rather not spend the time without it and pay the shipping cost for a trigger when i have three more. I have 4.5 years left on the warranty to i have plenty of time to get it fixed if i want to. Happy to say i got the 40% off card too
  8. Okay on their own merits, get the one that was a flagship center (rc-7), 2nd place goes to the rc-62ii
  9. http://emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=preamps&action=display&thread=12877 . They are sending me a new remote so hopefully that takes care of that issue.
  10. You should consider a 5 channel amp for the 4 82s and the rc
  11. Not at all! Mine is on the floor too and I have at least 320 degrees of angle (no kidding!). The only place I can't hit it is directly behind me (nothing to reflect on i suppose). Battery low? Was your battery isolated and you had to pull the tab to make contact? Maybe IR interference from another device? < not likely. It did not work at all until i changed the batteries yesterday. Looks like i will have to talk to emo support. Also my amp1 trigger does not work. Dont know if i want to send it in just yet especially for just a trigger problem (all 3 others work). by the way what is the latest firmware version? 7.04.00.07?
  12. Just got a umc-1 yesterdayand have not even tried emoq yet. Question about the remote, how well does yours work. I have my umc-1 pretty close to the floor and for the life of me i cannot change in volumes or anything unless i get level to the ground and point it right at the umc. Does your remote work terribly? Great sound on the unit though btw
  13. if it is mated to rf-62ii then get the center that matches....the rc-62ii
  14. disappearance on 7th street. It is on netflix hd streaming right now. It got terrible reviews but i enjoyed it quite a bit making it a sleeper. Its a tad bit scary too for your horror fans (no gore sorry)
  15. split the sub channel and run it to the two inputs on the xpa-5. Then run the speaker outputs to your two subs, then use your pre-amps crossover settings for the subwoofer channel. Do you have 4 subs now?
  16. Well i picked up two upa-5s and a umc-1 one today. The previous owner applied some sort of round sticky black cover over the glowing "E" on front so i guess that solves that problem. Hopefully wont leave a mark when it comes off but i dont think it will (if i ever take them off). Either my brother or parents will get the second upa-5. This saved me a boatload of cash from buying the xpa-5 and umc new, i hooked it up already and the upa-5 sound great. The umc remote was not working though and i suspect it needs new batteries. Can i find this kind at meijer or do i need to order some? I am sure i will have more questions but for now i am happy to finally be in nnnnthe world of seperates. By the way the upa-5 is no slouch it is big and it is heavy!
  17. I am supposed to be getting new amps tomorrow so i will be selling my 2 marantz monoblocks. I have confedence in the performance and longevity of these and it is not too hard on the wallet either. I opened them up and inspected the capacitors (i am no technician but can tell if an cap is leaking) and they are in perfect shape (have pics). Warning though they are not for the lazy, you have to turn them on and then off manually when you are done with them (just a power button on the front). I have been using them with my rf-7ii and they sound great. They run very cool and the rf-7ii can show off some bass with these guys. I love pioneer receivers but i know the one you have does not pump out all that much power. Let me know if you are interested and i can give you price, details and pics before i list it in the GS section. By the way i got a groupon to a shipping store and spent it all on packing materials so i can pack them up safely.
  18. Rs-41 is a less powerful speaker for some of the smaller speakers in the reference line. Dropping a woofer probably allows them to sell it for as cheap as they do
  19. I am considering getting a used upa-5. I dont crank the sound rediculously high. I think you would be happy with a upa-2 over your receiver but i doubt you are going to notice a huge difference. The difference will surely be there though.
  20. yeah i think that is an awesome idea. Another idea is xpa-3 but i remember you saying you dont use full potential of your center and surrounds
  21. Also another consideration... i am not going to be able to afford surrounds (i have dcm bookshelves that i will use) if i buy this package. I could look for a decent receiver and then get my surrounds too.
  22. Lol all my dislikes are things that were meant to make it look "cool" , and the silver trim, cmon now.
  23. Yeah that interface does look fine and "new". Another dislike is that clickety click remote, click click click... Ha i know i am nitpicking but i always mess with stuff during movies and the added clicking will be added annoyance to people around me. Yeah those blue lights really bother me, when ever i tried to think up a way to cover the blue light on the j15 i could never come up with something not cheesy. The magnet idea is good but not sure that is a good idea as it may mess with some internal components (may be an idea for the emotiva lounge). Also if you disconnect the light it will void warranty. I am glad the sale is going on for a while longer giving me more time to think about this. Also a little angry about the umc not having balanced inputs. They make the xpa with them but not the umc???? The 40% upgrade coupon is the only thing making me consider the umc, although i wish there were other options out there that were affordable
  24. Thanks guys your responses are helping. Yeah youthman that does put my mind at ease that the amp status lights can be dimmed. I had an APC j15 power conditioner where the front blue led around the power button would not dim, it was really bright and distracting during a movie. I have a 52'' lcd and that leaves room for distraction (no upgrade money for a long time on the tv). Anyone else feel like they should have returned their umc-1 when they had the chance? I am a 24 year old home theater enthusiast so i am sure i can wrap my head around the learning curve but in the end it does have to function right. Would still like some pictures if you guys have them
  25. I am considering an emotiva package (xpa-5 and umc-1) i have my pros and cons and am trying to make a decision before the sale ends . My first major con is how i do not like lights in my dark theater room. How do you guys feel about the brightness of the front leds on these two components? Can people with emotiva gear please post pictures of their components in a dark room? That would help. Also i know seperates are king but my theater room is relatively small (16 x 10 i think, theater on small wall) and i have had a few ear surgerys recently so i do not nor will never listen at ear bleeding levels. Will this system be overkill for me? The major pros for me are that it is new equipment with a 5 year warranty, and although money is pretty darn tight for me right now this gear is "Affordable". Do you think i will be kicking myself when the christmas sale comes around?
