  1. I dunno I have the RW-10d, but I got it mainly because my brother worked for a high end electronics company and I got it for $300. I think the guys that don't like it have a much better set up than me, i.e., their mains and center are 1000x better and have great bass response so maybe the RW-10d is almost drowned out to an extent. With my setup I feel it works really well. I was watching Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen last night because people have been raving about the sound quality and I was really happy with the way my sub handled it. It didn't overpower my mains (bass heavy) but when the fight scenes were going on I thought it handled it really well. My whole downstairs was shaking to be honest with you but it wasn't nasty sounding bass, it was rumbling for lack of a better word. It is on the "low end" of Klipsch subs that I will not deny, but for me getting something like these guys in this thread have would be major overkill IMO. Just my .02. I'm sure when I upgrade in the next 10 years to better mains I might outgrow my RW-10d but for now I am perfectly content with it.
  2. Yea MechMan that's exactly what I'm hoping is the issue. Like I said they are sending me a new copy so I should find out here in the next few days. I appreciate all your guys advice and the links. I love this site [:$] Mark
  3. Well that search was helpful but I don't think (thank god) that it pertains to my problem. I updated to the newest firmware/software using the PS3 network and that's when I initially had the problem so I went ahead and restored the system defaults. I tried it again and it still wouldn't play that one disc. So I went ahead and uploaded the newest software/firmware again and same thing. It plays every other disc I have (including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) and I even put in "Youth in Revolt" which is a new release and it played with no problem. So far it just seems to be isolated to that one disc, "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past." So I'm hoping it maybe is simply a problem with the disc. I reported the problem to Netflix and they are sending me a new one so I guess I'll find out tomorrow or Saturday (whenever it comes). But I have tried a bunch of other blu-rays that are fairly new and no problem. Weird. Thanks for that link Youthman I guess I will refer to it if it becomes a larger problem. But I really don't think anything is wrong with my harddrive as everything else is playing just fine. I didn't know maybe if it had to do with discs generating from a particular studio that maybe used a different format? Oh well, like I said I guess I'll find out soon if it is a isolated problem or as I start getting newer and newer releases from Netflix if they continue to not play. Thanks and I'll keep you guys updated. Mark
  4. Sorry I don't know what the appropriate section is to ask this question so I thought I'd ask here since it gets the most views. I have a question about my PS3 which I almost exclusively use as a blu-ray player. I am having some issues with newer blu-ray discs from Netflix. The most current issue was with "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past." I booted it up and the PS3 wouldn't recognize it (usually the title pops up with a picture). It just said something like "BDTV" or something I can't exactly remember. Then when I try to play it, an error code comes up and it won't play. I put in some older blu-rays and haven't had a problem, even other discs from Netflix and still no problems. I have updated the firmware/software to the newest version and still no luck. I'm hoping its something wrong with the specific disc but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this, like is there a problem with newer blu-ray discs and the PS3? Thanks so much in advance for you help I know you guys will lead me in the right direction! Mark
  5. Ok they will be mounted directly to the side of my listening area so that makes sense. The mids/lows will be shot directly at the back of my head and the higher frequency sounds will be shot the other directions so on port towards me and one away (if that makese sense, just think of the woofer pointed directly at the back of my head that should make it easy to understand how they're going to be set up). That's cool that things like doorbells fool you that's exeactly what I want in my system that I don't feel like I have right now in current form. Don't really listen to a ton of music, I'd say it's 80-20 in favor of movies/TV to music so that's a good point as well. Thanks for the feedback that was exactly what I was looking for it sounds like I'm going to enjoy them and that's a good idea about using 3M sticky hooks before putting a plate into the wall, shoot I can run the wires over the carpet and jsut test it out without going into the crawl space and fishing up the wall and see how I like them then go the full distance. Thanks!
  6. No you misunderstood the post. I wasn't going to sell the S-1s and buy something new/used right away, I was asking if I should just sell the S-1s and pocket the money and then down the road when thoings were better pursue the speaker that goes better with my system. Or if the S-1s were "satisfactory' for my ststem then just keep them and not worry about it for a long time. Does that make better sense? Trust me I'm not going to push it with the misses its not worth it.
  7. So you can see in my signature what setup I currently have. I hven't even had the chance to put up my S-1 surrounds so i have no idea how they are. However, I have seen great deals for RS-10s and even RS-35s. Both are reference line and seemingly would go with my system better. I was thinking about putting the S-1s up on ebay, I've seen them go for as much as $150 used ($300 brand new). If I sell them for $150 I'm pretty sure I could find at least a pair of RS-10s for that price used if I am patient. Or should I wait and buy RS-35s that are specifically made for my current setup? I haven't really messed with surrounds to be quite frank so that's why I'm asking. If the S-1s are perfectly adequate with my setup then I will go ahead and keep them, but if you guys think it would be worthwhile to sell on ebay and save up for RS-10s or RS-35s I would gladly do that as well. I have done without surrounds for years so I don't HAVE to put the S-1s up, it's not that big of a deal for me. The reason I got them to be totally frank is because I got such an amazing deal on them. And when I do set them up, should they be used as side surrounds or rear surrounds? I know that's a noob question but I've never had a 7.1 system so I don't know, technically the way I'd set them up in the room would be sides. I could possibly use a pair of Polk bookshelf speakers as rear surrounds but I have a feeling pitch, tone, etc.. won't match so its probably not a good idea to use those, frankly I can use them with my old Yamaha receiver for a 2.1 setup in my garage and finally have a decent system to jam to out there. Thoughts? Thanks! Mark
  8. Yea sell it to me for $100, that's 500% profit (and I'll throw in my RC-35) []
  9. Holy shit you've got to be kidding me for 20 bucks? You lucky SOB, congratulations and seriously enjoy it like you stole it (you basically did haha)!
  10. Well it's rated for in-wall use so even if its not as good as CL3 it should still be fine. I think I'll be okay unless someone comes in here and tells me otherwise (not saying you don't now you just don't sound super confident)
  11. Quick question that I think I already know the answer to. I've got a really old pair of Polk bookshelf speakers, but they are pretty good ones. I bought them like 10 years ago. Would they at all match up with the system I have as rear surrounds, or just better of using 5.1 with the system I already have? I mean its no big deal, I have my old Yamaha receiver and i could use that to run my Polks in the garage or even in my bed room if I wanted to just to have a new system. But just wondering if you can mix and match though I doubt its a good idea, I would think the pitch, tone, etc.. would be totally differrent between one speaker brand and another. Thanks, the speakers are probably kind of like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/polk-audio-monitor-bookshelf-SPEAKERS-mini-monitor-NICE-/270577601769?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item3effae8ce9 Mark
  12. Can someone confirm that this speaker wire is okay to use for in wall usage. It says its specifcally meant for in-wall installation but someone said to get CL3 rated and I got CL2 rated. Thanks!
  13. Oh yea I forgot to add we will be using that wall plate like Islander pointed out that will make it look clean, and I also bought wire from Monoprice that is specifically meant for in-wall installation. I got 14AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Loud Speaker Cable - 100ft (For In-Wall Installation). It was this stuff: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10239
  14. I am confronted with the same issue, and I think I am going to go down under the floor in the crawlspace, drill a hole in the floor and then fish it up through the drywall and patch where it goes in and out. I don't see any other way to do it other than to leave the wires exposed and on one side it wouldn't be a big deal but on the other side it would go past my dining room and that would drive me insane seeing white speaker wire...I have thought about running it above everything and that would work but I would still be able to see the white wire as it ran across the tops of my walls. So I'm gonna give it a shot to go under into the crawlspace and fish it through the drywall I have a friend that is pretty handy with that stuff and I think we can make it work. And when it does work its gonna be so clean I'm gonna be so freakin' happy that we went that route. I might do it the nasty way just to get everything set up while I wait for him to come over and help out but I'm definitely doing it the clean way once he comes by. Reminds me I need to go buy some beer to bribe him lol. Or a bottle of Crown Royal might do better. He's probably come over tonight if I told him I bought him a 1/5 of that.
  15. Did you ever figure it out? Just curious myself...
  16. I can't even imagine how much bass your guys' systems must put out, I have a RW-10d and I think it thumps pretty well but that's the small fish in the pond compared to what you guys are running. shit I've seen some of you running dual subs that is SICK!
  17. Pronix - that is incredible man, that is such a nice basement makes me drool. Can I come over and watch a movie? lol
  18. Yea that answered my question thanks!
  19. The RC-35 is a great mid-level center channel speaker and you can find them for fairly cheap. Be patient - I found mine for $100 shipped and then sold my RC-10 for $175. Nothing like upgrading and making money [] But seriously I have it mated with RB-35s and it does a great job. You'll definitely enjoy it IMO.
  20. I think the way it ended, there will definitely be a sequel. Plus they were moving the aliens to another spot so District 10 would make sense. Maybe they can explain why the leaders all died and the drones were left on their own and why the ship is stuck over Johanesberg (sic), etc...
  21. Any advice on how to figure out best what sound setting is best for each program? I feel like I'm constantly looking for the "best" sounding setting for DVDs, regular TV, music, etc... Right now I have settings for each but its hard to figure out with 25 or so sound settings which one sounds the best. Any advice on that, like is it best to have someone tinker with it while you are in your normal seating position?
  22. You know what that's a damn good question. Can't you just shut off the receiver and turn on the DVD player and the TV manually and watch it that way through the TV or does the receiver have to be on to turn the DVD player on? I don't think it has to but maybe I'm wrong. lol
  23. Sorry to threadjack but I was wondering do you think the same applies to my setup (in terms of setting the mains and center to small vs. large)? Thanks!
  24. I know this is going to be amazing on Blu-ray with my system, but I can't believe some of you guys didn't go see this in 3D I'm telling you this is a MUST SEE in 3D. It's amazing...the most spectacular visual experience I have ever seen in my life. I know some of you have kids and you can't take them but trust me, get a babysitter and go see this in 3D while you can!
  25. I hear ya, even though my RC-64 is hidden people still see it. It used to stick out big time! After Before God I love the reference series with the grills off but I can't do that with my Newf he sprays his slobber everywhere and he'd mess up my woofers and I'd be one unhappy camper. Those subs...they make me drool, they must THUMP when you have them going off. I bet you can wake your neighbors up with those! Good lord I bet your whole house shakes lol..not to mention how much I love the rest of your system. Great setup, so fresh and so clean. Honestly I think I like the RC-64 the best out of any speaker I have seen. Something about those 4 woofers just staring you down...wow.
