  1. I never thought of that, it could have been, I did have a hard time believing someone could be that stupid to pay that much for 20+ year old speakers. It's making a little more sense now. At one time I thought maybe it was a Klipsch forum member that read this thread and just started to feel real stupid and changed his mind and would not pay for the speakers, but I don't know anyone that stupid that knows how to turn on a computer.
  2. I guess the buyer said to himself " What have I done, have I lost my mind". You can get carried away on Ebay if your not carefull.
  3. If you read my earier post you would have seen I said to add some more money, also I have seen K-horns pairs for less than $1800. I have also seen CW's for $1,000, not every day but I have seen them. To me that is a better buy than a no-name kit, that no one might want in a few years.
  4. Boy, I don't know what the big deal was in these speakers, I sure would not have paid that for 20+year old speakers, I know they look nice, but so would a new in the box pair, I just don't get it.
  5. I think you might be better off buying a used Hi-end Klipsch speaker with a little more money, (as a investment) that way if you sell later you would get your money back out. You build a kit speaker with hi dollor drivers , what do you have when you are done, a hand made, no name speaker that know one but you will might like, and be hard to get your money out of if you want to sell it down the road, just my opinion.
  6. Yes, I can imagine that a lot of poorer audiophiles like myself will start to think about vintage and Ebay, and start the prices to go very high like the Heresys that are 20 years old on another thread on this forum going for more than $800. on ebay , just unreal. Stereophile to me only talked about $10,000 super amps that only the super rich would even think about buying, and now that more of the poorer audiophiles figure out that they can go to Ebay and pick up a Hi-end Mcintosh tube power amp and get it rebuilt all for under two grade, just watch the prices go insane. I'am sure glad I'am not in the market for anything of vintage audio right now. Like I said before good for the seller bad the buyer .
  7. I think Sony has a $100 table that you can get at Circuit City that is Direct Drive, that's Japanese, suppose to be Hi-end, just ask the saleman in the red shirt at Circuit City he will tell you.
  8. I just notcied that there is three hours left on that auction and the last half hours is when the price on Ebay goes even higher faster sometimes, and I paid less for new ones in the box, five years ago, unreal!
  9. I bought a pair that were black with black grills in 2000, new in the box with a warranty for $750, they were Heresy II's. You would not think that even a mint pair being used would go over $500, I mean why ? I know that the retail price is $1200, but why pay that much for used, and I bet the guy has to pay $50 to ship the pair. I think he got a little carried away with his bidding.
  10. From what I understand Stereophile is going to reveiw something vintage each month, I don't know if the reveiws will all be as positive as the Fisher 500C , but it should start a lot more interest in vintage gear, good for the sellers out there, but bad for the people trying to buy them, with the prices going up. I for one like what Stereophile is doing, I for one had no interest in a article about a $15,000 power amp I would never hear or buy and was getting kind of sick of the Mag. anyway until I saw this issue.
  11. I siliconed the cap to the board Friday afternoon and it seems now to be completely cured, so I guess it is safe, but I'am going to wait another day or so before I install it inside the Heresy II, no point in rushing it now. What I love about silicone is once you use it to bond something together, its not coming apart unless you cut it off with a very sharp knife.
  12. In the article he does mention that you can get parts from the "Fisher Doc" HeHeHe! I found where he talks about what was upgraded " Each had a RadioShack silicon bridge recifier installed " and a few resistors replaced , "a hum promblem was repaired by replacing the large daul 1000uf bias-filter cap. with two individual 1000uf or 1500uf electrolytic caps.. Everything else was left in its original state" I knew I would find it, I just had to look harder, It's a very long article.
  13. I read it this afternoon and I think that he said at the end that he has five of the Fisher 500 receivers and that the one he reveiwed was stock, but he did change out one of the filter caps and the ss Full-wave rectification, but I could be wrong, the article is very long and I can't seem to be able to find that section of the article now and I did read other things today. It was a very postive article on the Fisher 500, and I guess now would not be the time to get on Ebay and try to get a good deal on one, I bet the price will go thur the roof and probably double the old average price. I'am sure glad I'am not looking for a vintage amp., now that Stereophile is doing this, but it was very nice to read the respect that that Peter Breuninger has for the Fisher 500-C.
  14. Well, I guess I did use the wrong silicone for mounting the big cap. to the new circuit board, but it has been a few days since I did it and it is stuck on there good, not coming off, and it is cured , not smelling any more, I guess it is alright to mount in my Heresy II. I guess if anyone thought I really messed up using it, and it would hurt things over time I could cut it off with a knife and mount it on another radio shack circuit board using the right stuff when I found it. But from what I under stand if the silicone is not hitting any metal and it is fully cured I'am OK.
  15. Getting back to the question about TT's, it took me about 18 months to decide and I picked a new Rega P3/2000 for $550, and I could not be happier for the money I spent. I run my Rega P3 with a Dynavector 10x5 cart. and a Seduction phono stage and I now only play my Njoe Tjoeb 4000 only once in a while, and that is kinda sad because the CDP that I do have is nice for a CDP, I just like vinyl better.
  16. I don't think Dean G would be much help to you, I don't want to speak for Dean but I think he is into CD's. I believe I read somewhere that Dean thinks that LP's are just a lot of snap, crakle, and pop, unless he has changed his mind in recent months. I do believe that if Dean did sit down and listen to a to a nice vinyl set up with a mint LP copy of his favorite CD he would change his mind quicky, once he starts to hear how detailed and musical a LP can be, to me it is worth all the trouble of LP maintenance for that pleasure.
  17. Well, it looks like I got people talking with this topic. Dean, saw in your signature line your new E-mail address, tells all, and is very professional looking, should help business.
  18. The 68uf cap I'am using is big and heavy (about as big as a small spray paint can) and I didn't want it to fall off the cicuit board and be rattling around inside of the speaker when the speaker is moved around during the next fifteen years or so, I'am also going to wire it on the board for added support, I plan to do this crossover upgrade only once, and hope it lasts the life of my speakers and my ears, I'am 54 now and I guess when I'am in my 70s I won't be doing a whole lot of rock and rolling with my cane. or maybe I will!
  19. I just siliconed a 68uf solen cap to a small radio shack circuit board (I used a lot),that I was going to mount in my Heresy II as part of the crossover network. I was going to wait until the silicone cured (a few days) and than mount it in the speaker, but I read where silicone can be corrosive over time. I used Dow chem. 100% silicone (clear), and only used it on the cap and the board, it is not on any metal parts or is it the fumes that are corrosive even after it cures, I would hate to hurt any speaker windings, or other metal parts in the inside of the HeresyII encloser, did I mess up?
  20. I remember a woman that stripped in a club down in Houston, everyone like her because of her 48 double D's I liked her because she had a pretty face.
  21. I found this site and thought that some of the crossover gurus, or some other people interested in crossovers might find it interesting if they have not seen it yet. They also have a forum that some might find interesting. http://www.ellisaudio.com/CrossoverComponents.htm
  22. Your pictures got me to start drooling, I thought I had a lot of tube gear. I wish people would stop posting pictures like this, their is some of us that have a problem with wanting to buy and buy more tube stuff and are trying to recover, have mercy on us, please.
  23. Dean, What are the voltages of the new Solen caps, this is the first I have heard of the new white Solens.
