  1. Ships from California "wallys" I found a video describing it...
  2. HAHAHAHAH!! [] For a speaker company Bose makes great ferrofluid filled electronic car struts! [] The Quartets have a super-defined and dare I say "quick" low end for a non horn-loaded bass. The woofer and PR are perfect togeather.
  3. That's an awesome stocking stuffer!
  4. No problem, it's just been one of those personal attack/troll gang-up weeks by non-modders and even a Klipsch engineer with an axe to grind against the mod community. One moment it's "You don't need measurements" the next "You must prove it with measurements." lose/lose.... VMPS (and others) recommend an external active xover for best results. I agree.
  5. Interesting... Connemara 750ml... $47.95 shipped. They recommend you enjoy it with cashel blue cheese, a smoked irish cheddar with biscuits or Irish smoked salmon on soda bread. I shall look into ordering some myself. Washington state has a recently made distillery "Dry fly" and they have already been getting raves over thier single malt.
  6. I paid less than $300, and these are in A- condition. It's a killer deal!
  7. My listening room, system and components are all different from anyone else's here. No matter what I do, your setup will be different. You should consult Tom Nousaine and others that have guides online that cover this topic. I can't express it better than what has already been written.
  8. How do you implement the sub into your two-channel system? I start by plugging it in and placing it between the speakers. If you are implying it requires that I use quasi-anechoic and FFT analysis by the team at Canada's central audio research facility followed up by a week of averaging SPL measurements and laser inferometry backed by intensive software analysis. It's not magic, nor does it require an EE with extreme measures. It's not that difficult...really.
  9. I don't really need any software or specialized tool, but keenly matching the sub amp controls can be a bear. But agreed...if the sub sticks out, it's not right. I have heard that plenty of times. A sub with "X" speaker that still sounds like it's on it's own, or worse: stepping on the speakers it's supposed to support. One sub I have had *Great* success with is the VMPS larger sub. The mass-loading on the PR/changing the Q (in conjunction with adjusting the plate amp parameters) provides a seamless blending sub.
  10. At the very least, with 14-24 year old speakers, the caps will get freshened before they have a chance to cause damage. I have heard the unmodded quartets, and do enjoy them stock. The last time was with an OTL amp of sorts playing Miles. It was enough to sell me on the potential. It also made me ask myself why bother with the heresy II's...these are more my style.
  11. The interesting part is HIII's can be greatly improved , with a few bucks in better parts. That's another avenue besides just shuffling front end electronica , positioning, magic cables or adding a sub. Costs a lot less too. $50 in caps > $5000 in electronics. . Then again, it's been 20 years since I was one of those guys that could only buy speakers and spend $$$$$ for marginal improvements every 90 days. I realize this thread was nothing more than another Heresy love fest, and I am not wasting my time commenting on real HIII or Cornwall III improvements. I see for some folks, upgrading internal is simply heresy. Enjoy the speakers, as is.
  12. Ok... Just wondering, because I have read dissent in the mac community on occasion. Is the facility graphics or motion picture related by any chance? Yes, book and magazine publishing, so we have intense image and font management requirements. The Mac products are more mature and robust in this particular segment than their PC counterparts. Yes, Here is a tidbit: The Department of defense contracted PC's for individual workstations and servers. The audiovisual media services use loaded up MACs. I use an Imac with garage band as a "quick mix" in my drum room.
  13. I have some specialized risers just for such an occasion! (And they won't be floor standing) Luckily, the speaker parts are not a permenent fixture. [6] Right off the bat, they get modded. I'm not trying to make these replace larger speakers, but I know they will shine for this application. I have a nice 12" sealed box sub to go with them. From experiance, adding a sub and dialing it in changes everything. I am mulling over a Jolida, antique soundlabs or Dynaco st-70 to hotrod. I mention Jolida and ASL because I can be lazy and it's easier to deal with a non-corroded chassis and buy modern tubes. I am glad to see such responses because if there was a pie chart of the speaker discussion at Klipsch, La Scala and Heresy would get the lions share of the "slices." I can read up all day about those speakers, but comparitively little exists about the mighty little quartets. They would be respresented by a very narrow sliver of the pie. The few-the proud-the quartet owners. Wait...I shouldn't use that. "Sempre fidelity" no...wait..."The quartet quarter"
  14. Ok... Just wondering, because I have read dissent in the mac community on occasion. Question answered.
  15. Either you're a youngster or you don't keep to the "half your age plus seven" rule. :-P I like my premium libations over 25, and my women at least 35. Although, I do work with this 26 year old that looks like a prime Erika Eliniak from Under Seige (and baywatch IIRC). I'd have to see how well she goes with younger whiskey.
  16. ooh oooh... waterfall bubinga veneer.....mmmmm [<)]
  17. 1. Good start, I hope they were cheeeeep. 2. I hope the restoration makes them nicer than flat black... 3. I want to find the same thing....
  18. I have only tried the 12 year old bottles... and they are quite good. I may break out the older stuff one of these days. 25 year old mac + 25 year old macintosh+ 25 year old klipsch + 25 year old babes...
  19. Come to think of it...how many times do you see a mac as a server?
  20. I was looking for my next mod project, some bedroom speakers. I thought since I have a sub…heresy II’s would work as a first choice. Problem is… black heresy II’s in nice condition start at $400 and up (plus shipping), when you can find them. In the rural pacific northwest...no such luck. I have found them a few times on fleabay, and got sniped by $5 at the last second. In fact, just yesterday. The demand is insane. Heresy II is definitely not hurting for popularity. I prefer the HII to H1 because I am solidly a tractrix guy. Ideally for me, the best Klipsch of any size have separate mid and tweet horns. I thought about which model Klipsch would be appropriate for the bedroom, and not need a sub. (for my purposes that means flat down to 40hz or lower) I already have KG4’s, and wanted a midrange horn, not cone. Quartets came to mind. I know it’s not my imagination, but these are the single most underrated and overlooked gem in the Klipsch lineup. They have separate horns like the heresy, but a quick and deep low end closer to the Forte. They don’t need a sub…like a supersized heresy or forte jr. The perfect part is…You can find them for under $350 in top condition-with a wood finish, not just black. And I did just that. Quartets are an amazing small speaker that gets ignored all too often. They fill a niche, and do so for much less money. They are crisp, quick and really “bring it” in a small to medium room. As much as I dig my KG4’s, the quartet are a cut above, and don’t sacrifice low end. The KG4’s will be surrounds, and the quartets will be the new bedroom speaker. I have already ordered the goodies to upgrade the crossovers and install titanium tweeter diaphragms. I’d like to hear from quartet owners…and get some more perspective on Quartet appreciation.
  21. I can think of a number of subs that worked perfectly with bells and la scalas over the years. They sound amazing when the bottom octave is filled it. It's like an orchestra in your home. I prefer a very potent/large sub like 15 or 18" depending on the make.
  22. The belles pretty much vanish by 50hz. FR54Hz-17kHz(+-) 3dB Mods will allow the FR on top to meet/exceed 20khz, but not much more on bottom.
  23. Still continuing with your standard trolling and insigificant pouting? Get over yourself.
