  2. Jim, If you talk to Ron (S)impson and Tom (V)odhanel (the SV in SV subwoofers), they will tell you anything you need to know about these subs. They can be reached from their website and they always answer their Email...generally within a couple of hours from receiving it. I love my 20-39CS with the Samson S700 amp (375 w/ch x 2). If I had the room (and the money) for the 2nd sub, I would have gotten it at the same time. It really makes my CF-2's complete. Even though your Cornwalls carry a lot more bass, they will still make a difference in your HT and 2 channel stereo environment. I just watched MI-2 the other night and it absolutely rocked! Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance" in DD 5.1, and the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" and Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature" in DTS sound unbelievable on the SVS subs. Try and find someone in your area that has one and go give a listen. You will be impressed... Mike
  3. Steve, I found this as well... http://www.audioshopper.com/cgi-bin/classifieds.asp?action=showad&id=55978 Mike
  4. There's one on Ebay right now in Black, but it's already up to $440 and there is still 8 days left! 5. eq, I couldn't have said it better myself! You wouldn't happen to know somebody elses grandma that has a pair of CF-4's lying around, do you? BTW, I've noticed you seem to be spending a lot of time on this board... 6. Steve, I've been looking on Ebay for the 2400 and the 2800. Not quite sure what the difference is...maybe year built? They seem to have the same specs... As for the Heresy's, I think I am gonna wait until I finish my HT room (CF-4's, 2-channel amp, 1 more SVS 20-39CS sub) before I start on my bedroom. Do you have some available? What year, shape and finish if you don't mind my asking... Mike
  7. Tom - It looks like you have a very nice setup there. Look forward to more pictures when you get them. Barry - When are you coming over? Look forward to getting with you so we can talk music and hi-fi... Mike
  8. Keith, Yeah, I know...but I want 'em anyway! I was wondering if you could give me the number to that store in Alabama again...I seem to have misplaced it. Thanks again for all your help on this matter... Mike
  9. I have been out on this Forum for about 4 months now and have not seen a lot of members with the Epic Controlled Focus series speakers. I currently have a pair of CF-2's (Medium Oak) and was thinking of moving them to the rear and buying a pair of Cornwalls as my front mains. Well, after this weekend I now know that is not possible due to the size of the Cornwalls (Thanks for letting me hear 'em, Tom!). I have now decided to get another pair of CF's, preferably the 4's but would also consider another pair of CF-2's. Also, they must be Medium Oak to match the rest of my furniture. The problem is that these things are pretty scarce. I'm always looking on Audiogon, AudioReview, Ebay and a few other places but can never seem to find any. If anyone knows where I might find a pair of these beauties, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it. Do you know some other websites where I might want to visit as well? Thanks in advance, Mike ------------------ Family Room ----------- Mitsubishi 31" TV (soon to be replaced) Denon 4800 AVR Panasonic DVD-A7 Dual CS-721 Turntable DBX 3bx Series III Range Expander Klipsch Epic CF-2's (mains) Klipsch KLF-C7 (center) Klipsch RS-3's (surrounds) SVS 20-39CS Sub w/Samson S700 Amp Monster HTS-3500 Line Conditioner Bedroom ------- Yamaha M-4 Amp Yamaha C-4 Preamp Yamaha T-7 Tuner Teac DVD Player Looking for a pair of Heresy's
  10. Doug, This is where I got my info - from this post on the Home Theater Forum. Vince Maskeeper's 1st reply is the one... http://www.hometheaterforum.com/uub/Forum14/HTML/039226.html Mike
  11. Doug, While playing the pink noise from the VE dvd, it is always played back at 75 db, which is well below my threshold for pain. I was thinking true reference sound was around 105 db. Therefore, if I set the SPL meter to "70" and dial everything in at 75 db (the pink noise is 75 db regardless of where you have your Denon volume set), then I would know that true reference at 105 db - is with the volume at 0 db on the Denon. I read that somewhere on the HomeTheaterForum. I can see where both ways would work however. What I'm surprised about is the amount of adjustments I had to make in order to dial each speaker in at 75 db. Also the fact that I had to turn each of them down as well. But the Sub...minus 12 db? Sheesh... Mike
  12. Doug, I am setting the Volume level to 0 db on the Denon. Then, while the pink noise is playing on the VE dvd, I am adjusting each of the channel levels until I get a 75 db reading for each channel. Is this not correct? Mike quote: Originally posted by dougdrake2: Mike L - I also point my SPL meter straight up, per the instructions on the Avia test disk and others on this board. The meter does read pretty wild for the sub - not at all at a constant reading. Not sure why that is. I assume when you say you set the Denon to 0 db, you are referring to the channel level, not the volume knob! I just set the Denon channel levels to 0, then adjusted the volume knob until the left front speaker reads 75 db on the meter, then adjust the rest of the channels to 75db without touching the Denon volume knob. 13. I have just recently hooked up my new HT system in my new home and finally got around to borrowing my girlfriends DVD player, so that I could calibrate my speakers using the Video Essentials DVD. I am a little concerned however with the results. The equipment I am using is as follows: Denon AVR-4800 Sony DVD Klipsch Epic CF-2 mains Klipsch KLF-C7 center Klipsch RS-3 surrounds SVS 20-39CS sub w/Samson S700 amp I put the SPL meter on the couch, using a 2 foot tripod, aiming it above the center channel. I set the Denon and the Samson to 0 db volume, and set the reciever to DD 5.1. I set the meter to 70 w/"C" weighting and set to "Slow". My room is 17' along the front wall, 15' along the back wall, 14' in depth and 10' high. I have no wall on one side as it opens up in to my kitchen and hallway. I have attached some pictures of my setup. Upon playing the Video Essentials DVD, in order to reach the 75 db level on all speakers, I had to adjust the following: Left: -4 Center: -6 Right: -3 LS: -1 RS: -2 Sub: -12 I am wondering if this seems right? Minus 12 on the sub?! Is anybody else out there using an SVS sub? It just seems like a lot of calibrating. Any help would be appreciated... 14. You are correct, sir! Tom and his wife Trudy (sp?) came into town and picked them up from Barry, and then proceeded over to my house where we hooked them up to my system and gave them a listen. First of all, these things are huge! I couldn't put them in the corners where my CF-2's reside due to them being so wide. We ended up pushing them out a bit in front of the wall units. Once we got 'em hooked up (thanks Barry!), Tom put on some of his music and we gave them a listen. Keep in mind, they hadn't been played since 1989 and sounded just wonderful. Nice imaging, very tight bass and the horn music (Tom Scott - Night Creatures) sounded awesome. All-in-all, I was very impressed. I would like to have a pair myself, except they won't work with my current room configuration. Just wanted to say it was nice to finally meet a couple of Forum members and to be able to put some faces with some of the names out here. 15. Thanks, Tom! Looking forward to meeting you and listening to them Cornwalls of yours! Mike
  16. Dave, Still plan on fixing the Yamaha but plan on setting that up in my bedroom. I will probably put some Heresy's on the wall in the bedroom, once I get the amp fixed. I'll have my Yamaha separates plus the TEAC CD player in there... Mike
  17. I have just moved into my new house and decided to take a few pictures of my present system. It consists of the following: Denon 4800 AVR Teac CD player (waiting for Panasonic RP91 in black) Dual CS-721 Turntable DBX 3bx series III Range Expander Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 cable box Monster HTS-3500 Line Conditioner Klipsch Epic CF-2 mains Klipsch KLF-C7 center Klipsch RS-3 surrounds SVS 20-39CS w/Samson S700 amp Mitsubishi 31" TV (soon to be replaced) I am hoping to purchase a set of Cornwalls, or another set of CF-2's or CF-4's (in medium oak) and move the existing CF-2's to the rears for 7.1. I would also have to purchase a 2-channel amp and have been looking at the older Denon's (POA-2400, POA-2800) from the mid 90's...these are 200 w/ch amps. I currently have the RS-3's at about 8 feet and would like to bring them down to about 6 feet in the near future. Let me know what you guys think and if there might be something I can do to improve my situation. I'm always looking for some ideas... Mike
  18. Keith, I have some CWD (Custom Woodwork and Designs) racks for sale if anyone is interested. They are solid oak with the dark glass doors and have been taken very good care of. I have had them for about 10 years but they look better than new. I have two racks that are 48" high by 30" wide (I think) with 4 shelves in each. I also have a low boy which is 24" high by 60" wide. I sat the TV on this and placed it in the middle of the stereo racks. I could get 600 albums along the bottom of the racks in addition to all the stereo gear I have. I can provide pictures if anyone is interested. BTW, they were $1500 new. You would have to see them to appreciate them... 21. Dave, Got portions of the Service Manual from Yamaha yesterday. Will try to get to Kinko's before heading to Pittsburgh on Tuesday evening. They do have a schematic in there as well as a parts list. If they can blow up the schematic, I will Email that along with the parts list to Dennis, and hopefully he can figure out what's wrong with mine. BTW, glad you got yours working again. Mike

  23. Dave, Thanks for the reply! I too have the owner's manual and there is a schematic, but it is so small you can't read it. If you could enlarge it and send it to me, I could pass it on to Dennis for further instructions... Mike
