  1. Turns out I am in the warranty period (purchased 6/24/11). I'll call accessories4less in the morning and see what we can trouble shoot.
  2. I have been searching for a new avr. I need one for the bedroom and figured I would just move my onkyo htrc180 there and get a new avr for the HT. Well have not been using my HT much lately and since I still need one for the bedroom I decided to just move the onkyo upstairs now. Well didn't have any issues moving it. Heavy but clean and softly placed in new spot. Hooked up the left channel to a speaker and listened to tv while I finished the setup. Went to back of cabitnet to hook up other 2 channels (right and center). When I came back around front the onkyo was off and the standby red light was flashing! The cabinet Door was open and although the onkyo was hot it didn't seem to be in a situation in which it would over heat. The trouble shooting section said leave it unplugged for 60 minutes and then turn back on. Tried that and it didn't work. Anyone have any ideas? I may still be in my warranty period so I'll check on that. If u can think of anything let me know. Thx
  3. Accessories4lesd doesn't charge tax but often they do charge shipping. As for the refurb I wouldn't worry about that. It is done by onkyo and cones with a 1 year warranty. I bought 3 units from them and they look brand new. That said u would get the new one for a $50 difference for sure. Plus if the shipping is free it's even a better deal. Don't forget the audyssey multi eq XT your getting with the 709. Read about the differences in audyssey if you can. Super easy to use and works great. Also the umc-1 is not returnable right now as it is a clearance item.
  4. Sir.... Deep breaths .... Relax.... If the seller wants to sell for half his asking price that's his choice. Unless you Think there is something wrong with negotiation or the free market economy. Do you?
  5. His 609 does not have preouts. FWIW accessories4less is selling the onkyo 709 for $499 right now (also the 808 for $499 and the 708 for $349). I have the rf7ii system with the XPA-5 and the onkyo HT rc180 and love it. I run an extra set of surrounds off the onkyo and a 6th channel in the rear as well. If you go with the 709 u get audyssey multi eq XT which is the second best audyssey and to get the best you would have to go to the 3008 which is more than double the price. I have intrest in the Inc-1 as well but it just seems a little to buggy for my use at the moment. I personally can't see spending $500 on a processor that has so many issues and an update process such that it is.
  6. I recently bought the same front 3 as you did for $500 and thought that was a good deal. Those surrounds and that sub for another $500 on top of being brand new... I'd say you got a good deal.
  7. Yikes... With s room like that the rc52ii is just going to be very small. It looks like you could easily fit an rc62ii with a couple small adjustments to the shelf above the tv. I think your going to be underwhelmed by anything less than rf62ii's and an rc62ii. I owned the rc52ii and was extremely disappointed.
  8. I wouldn't mount primary surround speakers on the back wall unless they were my "rear" surrounds. If I didn't have a side wall to mount speakers then I would use bookshelf speakers on stands or floor standers.
  9. Another option could be the klc-7 for sale in the garage sale section. Not sure how it would sound though. Also I have an rc-3 for sale for $100 plus shipping ..... That could be an option.
  10. The c-3 is a nice speaker. I had it before I "upgraded" to an rc52ii. Basically it was a down grade. Never liked the rc52ii. If u fo decide to upgrade I would go at least to the rc62ii. Much better speaker.
  11. RF 62ii's are the perfect size for sound balance IMO. There is an almost new cherry pair for sale in the garage sale section. Check them out. U could actually have the front 3 of an rf62 system used for $850 out of the garage sale. Add 2 rw-12d subs from newegg for $600 and get the surrounds later. That is a killer setup for under $1900.
  12. Is that the one on the AVS forum demo disk?
  13. Not crazy at all. Not everyone uses true "surround" style speakers. I have used floor standers and bookshelf speakers.
  14. Youthman. You'll have to let us all know how the new firmware is.
  15. Good point. Emotiva processor/amplifier 5 channel would be just under $1300. I've never had Emotiva equipment but there are tons of people here who use it. Yup the x08 models had many issues. Speaking of long threads filled with equipment issues..... Umc1
  16. I forgot to mention that you can always pick up an apple tv for $100. That opens your options up for avr choices. See iPod connectability was not prevalent in last years models like it is this year. It gives you great iPod connectability and more that way your not limited to this years avrs and can save alot of money by going for a year old model.
  17. I don't care for the 809. It's in a bad spot in-between the 709 and 3009 which I would much rather have. The 709 has everything I need in an avr at a lower price point. The 3009 has everything I "want" in an avr like multieqxt32 and of course 2 outputs and more power. I suggest the 3008 from accessories for less. Or the 708 from acccesories4less. 1 is an awesome deal (708) and the 3007 is basically all I want in an avr for s good price.
  18. The brand seems to be personal preference. Used or refurbished can be a great way to go. Just make sure your getting what you want for processing, connections, and networking.
  19. Whats your budget? Do you plan on running an external amp now or in the future? Do you need iPod functionality?
  20. I read that burn in was a thing of the past when I bought mine. I'm not saying your wrong at all and I know there have been improvements in that area. I would just be careful and watch closely at the very least.
  21. The new tv I just bought for Black Friday has a feature to counter act that "gamer in put lag" Totally works great. I am kinda partial to plasma's because I just love the picture so much. But the weight and fact that I can't game on them without burn in keeps me in the market for LCD's. If my current p[lasma ever goes I will replace with a new plasma with 1080p resolution (don't game in the livingroom). one thing to think about is where you purchase from. Big box stores don't have good customer service ussually but they can be a great place to buy a tv. I purchased 3 TV's in the past 10 years from walmart and 4 from best buy. I returned 4 of those 7 TV's within the return period (30-90 days) because I wasn't 100% happy. It's kind of a PITA to rebox everything but it was worth it in the end. The big box stores like that just don't care if you return something. As long as you return on time with a receipt the person at the rerun desk could care less. So it's very helpful to be able to see the TV in your environment with the comfort of knowing that if you aren't 100% happy it's an easy return process.
  22. well.... first thing is LED is the type of backlighting for an LCD. It'a still a Liquid Crystal Display just uses LED's instead of cold cathode (CCFL). The big draw being less energy consumption and longer lifespan (100,000 hours vs 20,000). The downside of LED backlighting is the cost. The bigger issue IMO is edge lite vs full aray. The tv's that are super thin (like less than 2 inches) are able to achieve that size because the lighting (no matter what kind) is all along the edges of the display. Full aray lighting is as it sounds fully behind the entire diplay. That forces the TV to be thicker (like 3-4 inches). They say that edge lite TV's can become less accurate when your in screen sizes over 32 inches. Some people can see a big difference other don't care. I would say go check out a couple TV's at a local shop if possible to see the difference. As for plasma's I don't know that much about them. I do know that I have a 50 inch samsung plasmathat is anout 5 years old. It still looks great. It's 720p and I only use it for tv. I did try gaming on it a few years back but it started to get burn in so I stopped (no permanent damage). So I would say the 2 biggest down sides to plasma are burn in and weight. They are considerably more heavy than LCD's of any kind.
