  1. sorry guys.....can't remember how to do more than one pic in the samepost so I have to do them one at a time
  2. So for the room up front I have RF-7 II fronts.....a Polk center and the RB 61 IIs as surrounds.....of course I plan on replacing the Polk center with RC-64 II sometime soon. I still have to get a big screen tv, receiver, tv stand, and amps for the front so I'm taking it a step at a time. But all I can say is WOW! The 7s sound amazing even with the crappy receiver I have up there. The 7s sound very majestic. Can't wait until I get the front finished.....I will keep you guys posted on my progress! Planned upgrades: Center: RC-64 II Sub :2 SVS PB13 Ultra Preamp: Marantz AV7005 Amps 4 Crown XTI 1002 amos Power: APC S15 TV: 2011 Samsung LED or Panasonic VT25 plasma. Aiming for at least 60" for whichever one I decide on. And the mancave upgrades are at the bottom of my list. I'm very happy right now but of course I'm curious how the 82s will sound with a seperate amp soooo the mancave upgrades are.... Receiver: Harman Kardon 7550hd or AVR 3600 Amps: QSC PLX2 1802......don't know if I should just use one for both speakers or get 2 and run them in bridged mode.....one for each speaker. SO I'm happy to say I've made alot of progress but I still have a ways to go.....especially for the front since the remaining items are going to run me at least $1000 each. But I'm very content with staying in the cave and enjoying the 82s.....and I'm also content with the front sitting area for now. Let me post some more pics of the amazing 7s though!
  3. Hey guys. Its been awhile since I've posted on here! Been busy working. Doing lots of ot at work. But the ot has finally paid off because I have been making upgrades to my system. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was buying my first pair of Klipsch speakers.....the RB-61 IIs......well I made the mistake of joining this forum and got the upgrade bug. Well a few months later and I have upgraded my bookshelf speakers with floorstanders. The mancave is finally complete! I have RF-82s for my mains....RC-35 center....and RB-25 surrounds.....the 25s really brought everything together in the room. Sounds amazing even though it is a tight squeeze. What happened to the 61 IIs? Well they've been moved to my next project area.....the sitting area up front. The front is a work in progress but I'm already loving my latest purchase! Let me show you guys what I'm talking about!
  4. For my smaller speakers I didn't keep the boxes unfortunately but for my larger Klipsch speakers (floorstanders) I kept the boxes. Comes in handy if you move. Nothing like the factory packaging to protect the speakers from scratches etc. And as others have stated if you ever sell them people love buying stuff in the original packaging. I know I do. Especially if the seller has to ship them because I feel way more comfortable with factory packaging compared to someone packing and protecting them to the best of their ability
  5. Daaaaaaaang. I haven't been on this forum in awhile bc of work etc and when I come back what do I see??? The Factor is still upgrading his system! During the holidays! I'll take a pair of Klipsch surrounds for Christmas, buddy since you're in a buying mood, lol. But I'm glad you're still finding the right pieces to your puzzle. The only thing that has stopped me is holiday shopping but after the holidays I'll hopefully be able to succomb to the upgrade bug. I still need surrounds and a couple of new receivers! But I'm glad your system sounds even better now! I didn't think that was possible! I wish there was a way for us to hear the way it sounds through video but I know videos never do sound systems any justice. Enjoy your system though and hopefully after the holidays work will slow down.....that way I'll be able to get on this forum.....and so that I can watch movies! lol. In case I don't make it back before the weekend Merry Christmas!
  6. Thats pretty cool. I've never been able to try bitstream with my ps3 since its the fat one but pcm sounds great for the games. But whenever I play blu rays on my samsung player the bitstream sounds better. pcm sounds good but bitstream sounds clearer and I can hear more of the subtle effects! So I guess it just depends on the player. Since the receiver is built to do that kind of thing I generally let it handle the decoding and processing instead of the devices feeding the signal. The ps3 may be the exception because it has some pretty powerful hardware in it so I'm sure the decoders have to be top notch as well! But we're all going to have different experiences. We can all agree on one thing though. Its great being able to sit down and put on a blu ray and crank the sound all the way up! Whether its bitstream or pcm they both sound pretty darn good
  7. Well I can't say I've personally had any experience with Polk subs but it did seem like they were always outshined by the Klipsch subs in the speaker rooms. Those Klipsch subs were the ones you heard as soon as you walked in the store and they were the ones that you felt. I don't ever remember hearing a Polk sub so I don't know if that means anything! I know they "looked" puny compared to the looks of the Klipsch and Velodyne haha. But since I can't comment either way on the Polk all I can say is the price is pretty dang good. $125 is cheap for a sub but it worries me because its in the same price range as Sony Subs which range from $70 to around $149 and those subs are def underwhelming. But if you could find a Velodyne or SVS sub in the same price range I would spring for one of those. I did find the Klipsch Sub 10 on ebay brand new for $199. Free shipping. And I can vouch for the Sub 10. I have 2. Have had one for over a year and the other one for a few months. Both are great for movies. They shake my walls and can easily be heard outside if I crank them. Its actually a pretty powerful sub. I have one in a huge sitting area and I didn't expect it to do a good job but it still fills the room with bass. Bass I can feel. It is in the corner tho. But the one in my bedroom is in the middle of the wall and it easily rattles the walls as well. I know its a $75 jump but I think you would be more satisfied with that sub!
  8. Hey! Glad you're enjoying your new speakers! Its amazing hearing the difference when you upgrade from another brand of speakers. Now I don't know if you would call what you're hearing low distortion......I consider it detail....The horns bring out every detail of the recording naturally. They don't mask the sounds or add their own interpretation to the sound. Or in other words Klipsch speakers don't color the sound. They are very neutral. They don't try to hide or mask the "bad" things of recordings. Klipsch speakers will bring out the good and bad of anything. And horns are also sensitive so you don't need a lot of power for them. I don't know if Klipsch speakers are low distortion bc I've never been able to make them distort but I've never made any pair of speakers I've owned distort. LOL. But they are very durable. I know plenty of people that do drive their Klipsch hard for home theater and they've been going strong for years. Welcome to the Klipsch club and be careful! You will most likely get the upgrade bug soon! Especially if you check this forum often LOL. You're going to get curious and try the different models and different components etc. Its a fun hobby though! Enjoy your speakers and feel free to ask plenty of questions!
  9. Yeah that doesn't make sense. Because if its outputting in Dolby TrueHD it shouldn't be boomy. Both of the HD sound formats sound great. Have you checked your crossover settings etc? Sub level? Have you ran the calibration on your receiver or used a calibration disc? Also what model PS3 do you have? The slim one or the fat one? If you have the fat one then it can't output in Bitstream.....even if you select bitstream it will still put out in PCM. Only the newer slim ones can output bitstream. Even if it shows its outputting in Dolby etc.
  10. I have to agree with Ironsave and Youthman. Ironsave hit it right on the head. I have the RB-61 IIs and they sound amazing. I also have the RB-25s which are great as well but I just picked up a set of 82s and they sound even better. The sound is fuller. The soundstage is definitely more enveloping and it just brings out more subtle things in movies etc. And thats even with me using the same receiver and crossover settings. And of course 2 channel sound is just superb. So your sound will be fuller with floorstanders but the sound from the 61s will be pretty darn close. As far as the center I went with the bigger center. I just wanted to match the woofer size across the front which was 6" and it sounds great. Everything blends and the center doesn't overpower the 61s nor vice versa. If you're worried about the upgrade bug then I say get the floorstanders. But you should be satisfied with the bookshelf speakers. The only reason i got 82s was because I'm trying to put Klipsch in every room. LOL. And Youthman is right as well. Speakers rarely break and even if they do you can generally find the part and repair it yourself and have like new speakers all over again. He's also correct with the used market. You can save a lot buying used. The only new speakers I got were the 61 IIs. That was because I was new to the home audio game. Everything else I've gotten has been used and you can't tell. Perfect shape and I got them all at 50% of the original price. You just have to be patient. As Ironman said people are upgrading so you can find some sales. I got my 82s...new open box for $500. Not too shabby considering retail was at one point $1200.....and most sites still want $400 apiece for those speakers.....and you can't tell them from new. Even smell new. So the deals are out there if you're patient and if you're willing to check the garage sale area of this forum and ebay etc daily. Now as far as audiophile.net goes. They are cheaper but the best thing to do is to add whatever speaker you're considering to the cart and calculate shipping. That could be the killer that drives the price way up and you may end up saving $40 bucks off retail. Another site that has more reasonable shipping costs is: http://save-on-audio.com/store/index.php I have no experience with them but as you already know those are not authorized dealers. If you must have something now then check out those sites. If you're willing to wait then keep an eye out for used stuff. You may be able to get top of the line slightly used stuff for the same price as brand new entry level stuff. So download that app and keep an eye on this site and ebay and just keep searching for whatever speakers you want everyday. If you're not sure then start at the top and work your way down. Check the 83s, then 63s, then 82s etc. You'll find that "sweet spot" eventually. I'm glad these guys showed me the light because I have been on the upgrade fast track here lately. Way faster than anticipated bc I saved so much money. But I'm done blabbing. Hope that helped a little more. Now if only I could find some used RF 7 IIs I'll be all set. Well those and some RS-52s or 42s. Yep Youthman I'm still looking. Finding everything else except what I really need! Those surrounds are giving me a run for my money LOL
  11. I believe so. Thats actually the model I plan on getting for my bedroom. A ton of features and you can generally find it online below its MSRP. It averages around $900 9.2 channels. 135 wpc. Possible to playback things in 3 zones. Networking. Built in Display Calibration. etc. its feature packed as well. The real question is whether or not you'll use those extra features. Will you use the extra channels? The calibration? If not then save your money and get the 708 and put the money you saved towards some external amps. I'm sort of a nerd when it comes to technology so I know I'll use those features. Have something playing in my home theater while I pump different stuff to the patio and garage. LOL. It all comes down to you though. No point in wasting money on the few extra amps and features if its going to be used the same way as the 708.
  12. Thats a matter of personal preference. A lot of people use floorstanders as rear speakers with great success. The main factor will be space. If you have the space to position the speakers correctly then you home theater should sound amazing. Do you already have the rs-42s? If not then you can just set up the 82s in the rear and see if you like the sound. If you do then you're all set. If you don't like the sound or if you don't like having those huge speakers in the back then you can pick up the 42s. If you do have the 42s then I would just experiment with them both. Hook them up and see which ones sound better to you. Thats what matters!
  13. They are both really good . I wish you could hear them both. I am a big fan of Audessey as well but BOTH receivers have Auduessy MultiEQ. They are both 7.2 channels and they both upconvert everything. I have an Onkyo as well but my next upgrades are going to be Denon and Harman because I have heard great things about their "sound" The Onkyo seems to be the best bang for the buck because it adds another HDMI port (7 vs 6 on the Denon) and it also adds THX certification and 5 more watts per channel. Some people feel that THX certification doesn't mean anything but it does pass the testing of THX so that can be a plus. Onkyos are great for movies and they don't sound bad for music. Denon's are known to be more musical but I can't verify that. As far as upconverting goes I've only used Faroudja which is what Onkyo uses. Denon uses Anchor Bay. I've never had a product that used Anchor Bay but their chipsets get good reviews too. Of course there is only so much upconversion can do for SD content. Its a hard call though because they both pretty much match each other feature for feature. Of course the MSRP of the Onkyo is higher because of the added port and THX certification so you're saving the most on the Onkyo. So in conclusion the best bang for the buck will be the Onkyo but the Denon is also a good deal and IMO you can't go wrong with either one. .
  14. If you want black on a LCD TV then your best best is LED. Local dimming does a better job but edge lit led is cheaper. Once calibrated both of those sets give pretty good blacks. With the edge lit you may see a tiny bit of grey but it'll be very hard to tell. Unfortunately as you stated earlier LEDs are more expensive. But the 46" tvs are around your price range so whenever you are ready to buy check them out. Samsung has a sale on a few 46" LED tvs right now for $999. Plasmas are definitely the best bang for your buck and pretty much all of the current models have burn in protection built in. Most of them shift the images on your tv every few hours. Its so slight that you'll probably never notice it. I've never been a big fan of plasma because of the added heat they output and the added energy they use. Plus I wanted 1080p for Blu Ray and there arent't that many 1080p plasmas out for some reason. So I've been a Samsung LCD tv fan for awhile now. Plus with the picture quality being pretty close to plasma its hard for me to switch. Plus even CNET has admitted that once they calibrated the tvs the local dimming LED tvs have some pretty good blacks. But the best thing for you would be research which you're already doing and if possible actually going to a store and looking at the tvs once you narrow it down to a few models. Of course the bright environment won't help but a lot of stores try to make the tv area a little darker than the rest of the store and stores such as Magnolia use some pretty intimate lighting in their showrooms.
  15. Well in my experience the Reference II series speakers have a warmer sound to them. As you said the older speakers sound outstanding and so do the new ones. It depends on whether or not the warmer sound is worth $300. They both sound great and the sound is pretty close. Thats the only difference other than the styling of course. I think you should save your money and save the money. Especially since you were satisfied with the sound. Thats what counts. How they sound to you. Now as far as shipping I have no experience shipping cross countries but the only thing I could recommend if you're worried is to just buy another box and put the original box inside of the bigger box with plenty of packing material. Double boxing usually works out pretty well.
  16. You can get smaller Reference speakers. Such as the RF-52 or RF-62. But if those are still too big then you can get the F-2's. As I said the Synergy series is good but the Reference series sound better. But I really think the respective owners would be very happy with their gifts! But you can get the 52s for pretty cheap right now on Amazon. $239 each. They're actually cheaper than the F2s which are $279 each so its a no brainer for me! The 62s are $439 each which is crazy because the newer 62 IIs are $449 each. So the best deals seem to be on the 52s and 82s.The 82s are cheaper than the 62s as well. So I would just get one pair of 82s and one pair of 52s for the smaller application.
  17. You should be fine. That amp does a little over 100w per channel. And Klipsch speakers are very sensitive so I doubt you'll be able to push the system to distortion which is when most damage occurs. The good thing is that receiver has preouts. So you can try it out and see if it sounds good to you. If it doesn't then you can easily use the preouts to run an external amp. But I think you'll be fine. The 63s can handle 175w so the receiver is a little underpowered but as I said I really don't think you'll really be able to push the unit to its max with the speakers being so sensitive. But if you do manage to push the system to distortion regularly then you'll need an amp asap.
  18. Yes! I've used searchtempest before. I used it after you recommended it to someone else. lol. But even the surrounding areas don't have Klipsch. Arkansas and Mississippi. I have to travel pretty far and even then the deals aren't really there. Slight savings which will be offset by the gas to get there and come back. But I do have the app. Just haven't used it yet, lol. I mainly just use it to browse. Idk or maybe thats another criagslist app that I'm using. I'll have to check. And I'll set it up so that I can see if I can have a little better luck. But right now I have to lay low so some deals will probably pop up. Won't be able to shop until after the holidays. lol. But I'll check out that app. Thanks!
  19. I was fortunate to buy my RS-52's for $250.00 on Craigslist. The deals are out there if you are patient and move quick on great deals. Thats an outstanding deal! But I've been patient. I was looking for surrounds before I even got my 61s but I just can't ever find the sales. I can generally find sales on all of the speakers that I'm NOT looking for, lol. But the Memphis Craigslist sucks for Klipsch. There are generally only 1 or 2 listings for Klipsch and the sellers generally want 95% of retail which is crazy. I'll go ahead and pay the extra 5% and buy them new! But I'll keep checking it daily. Most of my deals have come on eBay and Amazon. No luck on Craigslist.
  20. Dang what Holiday Inn was that? I just did the little State Farm jingle. "Like a good neighbor State Farm is there" I snapped my fingers and what do you know. I had some 61s and 25s and some 82s and a couple of Sub 10s. And she even threw in a hot tub! And yes I bet that setup sounds amazing but unfortunately I haven't heard it or seen it yet......its on my to do list......tops on that list though is hearing some Klipschorns!
  21. If you saw the 83s for $1300 a pair and they're in good shape then buy them! Buy them NOW! If possible. Because I have not been able to fins any 83s that cheap! I had been looking at those too hoping to find some closeout deals. But the few stores that still have them want $1300 EACH or in other words $2600 a pair.....so that 50% discount is great. And the 62s are beasts for surrounds! But I've never seen a pair of them go for less than $900 but nonetheless you seem to have patience so you will probably come across some more great deals. And yes Klipsch can be pricey and yes I get strange looks whenever someone asks me how much I paid and I tell them, LOL.But I always tell them that GREAT sound is hard to beat. Being able to simulate a small movie theater is great. lol
  22. Congratualtions! That beast of a center is going to make a huge difference! And don't feel bad. I just pulled the trigger on the 82s and now the only money I have is holiday shopping money. So no more stuff for me until after the holidays! But congrats again and let us know how much you love it! Nice man congrats on the new 82's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks! I can't wait to get them. Of course they probably won't get here until the week after Thanksgiving which sucks because I only work 2 days on the week of Thanksgiving so I would have had plenty of time to get them setup. Oh well.......first thing I'm going to test them with is that Blu Ray.....I may go ahead and get those other ones I told you about.....oh wait.....never mind. I must have discipline....can't spend the gift money on myself! Why couldn't the holidays be like 3 months away? LOL
