I'd caution against the use of stripper. Veneer is very thin, and the stripper can penetrate and possibly soften the veneer's adhesive.

To the OP: A very well done job. They look better than new.

So far as my experiences have gone I have never had this happen. Have you had this happen yourself? Modern day stripping solutions may be different from those in the past which may no longer be legal to use. I have always used a stripper made with Methylene Choride but it must only be used out doors or with very good ventilation such as a paint booth.

PS: you can always test on the bottom of the cabinet same goes for choosing stain colors.

True, but most of the speakers will be nearer to the front or rear walls.  You do have a point, though.  When someone mentions a Left Side wall, for example, but is not clear on which way he or she is facing, that can introduce confusion.  When someone mentions the Main speakers and then refers to the wall behind them as the rear wall, and then goes on to refer to the wall behind the sitting position and the Rear speakers as the rear wall also, you can see how that can be really confusing.  Reading posts like that can make you dizzy.

So this may seem like a small point, but it's an essential point.  I don't want to disparage anyone, but some of the postings that are requests for help can be tricky to understand, so if at least one thing can be generally agreed on, then the call for help is more likely to get helpful answers, or at least some kind of reply.

the reference in the room is always to be the listener. The wall in front of the listener is then the front wall. A video screen is placed in front of the viewer on the "front wall". If someone told you that they had placed their video screen on the "rear wall" we would all wonder why.

  3. looks to me that the paint finish was simply and carefully sanded off. Personally I would use a stripper to remove  most all the satin paint off the wood veneer then sand the surface to clean up any marks. nice job.

Well that would take a whole different size, like storing a horse.

That's a nice Parisienne, my dad bought a 64 4 door in maroon with a black interior. Was a very nice car.

Ok so question here as while I’m enjoying the speakers now greatly, my set up is exposed posed by the Sensitivity.

while moving some connections on the preamp (turned off) I noticed some hiss from the speakers with just the amp on. When I flipped the preamp on that sound was almost completely eliminated but then while listening to either tv or records I get this quiet but audible super high pitched sound.

I feel like the amp really grips these speakers and so I’d ideally like to stick with it. I do feeL the gain on the preamp is way high and part of me wonders if I should try the Schiit Sys again and if good with it sell the Quicksilver (which is interesting that people love Quicksilver amps but not their preamp). And look at like a Herron VTSP-3. With the SYS I can’t run a sub though (obviously).

    Thoughts?

try a cheater plug (lifts ground) on either the pre or on the amp (or which ever unit has a three prong plug) that may deal with your hiss problem.

  6. Quote: "I see. I just wanted to make sure i didn't need non-polarized or something. Thanks again for the help".

The only non polarized cap that would fit your budget would be an electrolytic which at this price point you don't want to go near. There are good sounding electrolytic caps but they won't be cheap. A poly cap with vapor deposited aluminum on plastic film is exactly what fits your price point. If you are not competent with a soldering iron find a buddy who is to solder them in for you and leave a half inch between the body of the cap and the connection point, this will insure you do not overheat the cap and damage it.

Dayton sell decent sounding caps for crossovers but I think they may be similar in price to Bob's caps check them out and see. Check around locally to see if you can find some good caps and save on the postage if you can. Postage might cost you near as much as the parts so if you can find a good source that is local you could afford to buy a better quality part without spending any more overall.

As I grew up with a pair of Altec's in my bedroom, I have always had an fondness towards them,  though mine did not have horns . Here some A-7 Voice of The Theater in action.

me too, I had a pair of A7-800 in my bedroom as a teen they lasted less than a year til my mum explained that they had to go out of her home. Those were my first and last horns for a long time til I got some Tannoy's and then later some Klipsch and now back to Tannoys with the Revolution Series XT Mini which are simply amazing. I also have a pair of the larger XT6 but they do not integrate nor image as well as the Mini do with their smaller woofer cone and tweeter comp driver. These really must be heard in a top flight system to be appreciated.

I was more asking about which kind... as in polarized, non-polarized, film and foil, metalized Teflon, metalized polypropylen... etc. Will they all work? Just depends on what kind I think will work best?

I think you are confused because you already told us what kind of cap you want, a cheap cap so forget about film and foil forget about Polypropylene and Teflon or paper in oil or film in oil as none of those will work with your budget, you will get a metalized poly cap but that will sound very much less than the good cap Bob will sell you. You really do get what you pay for so long as you shop wisely. What ever you buy I would suggest that you purchase four of them so both channels match. I don't suppose you really want suggestions to spend more money but that's just the way it is.

  9. I think the Mayor of Seattle wants to mix this into the cities drinking water supply to show support for Chop. Sure you can read about it on CNN, but you will get the Don Lemon flavor there. Just like Jonestown, what could possibly go wrong it's just a bunch of free spirits expressing their 1st amendment rights?

  11. you might look for a used set of Heresy to get your auto transformers from and sell the remaining parts to recoup purchase expenses. You could buy a set of transformers from Bob Crites which would be the best option. Maybe you can check with established Klipsch dealers in your area see if a pair are to be found. Ask the local community via Canuck Audio Mart, lots of options but Bob is probably your fastest option for the parts.

Have you bothered to re flow the solder connections on the transformer with the issue? It might just be a cold joint worth a try.

  12. not intending to dis the EV Cobraflex but really if you are wanting to  upgrade your LaScala this is not in any way the path to take. The Cobraflex would be imo a serious step backwards. There are so many quality horn options for both a three way or even a two way LaScala. Ancient small mid horns are gone for good reason. A larger mid horn will provide a much wider bandwidth as well as its most important quality that of holding control of its polar response over a wider range. There in lies the magic. If you are into diy take a look at Inlow sound the paper horn.

Thanks moray james and billybob. Yes, it's all a matter of personal taste. Let's hope someone here is convinced to give them a go and would like to swap. For whatever reason, the Tangents are not valued anything like the H2s, so a swap is unlikely. It was a few years ago, but I think I paid ~$170 for the Tangents and the seller was having a very hard time selling them for that. The scratched and stained H2s I had, I sold for what I paid for them after I cleaned them up a little ($300). Nowadays, a quick review of prices on CL of H2s in OK to nice shape go for $500-900. So unless the value of Tangents has rocketed I have a good budget to make cabs and buy upgrades to make a stellar pair of H2s to my liking.

you are most welcome and may you enjoy your new H2 very much. I do not know if you have heard the titanium diaphragms (tweeter and mid horn) in the H2 but if not I highly recommend them to you and to others unless you absolutely love the softer sound quality of the phenolic diaphragms. In the case of the latter I just as highly recommend the phenolic mid horn diaphragm sold by Bob Crites as I find it to be a much preferred sounding profile when compared to either of the available stock klipch phenolic mid diaphragms. Enjoy your project and thank you for caring enough to keep these fine components in use providing them with a new lease on life to give future pleasure to those who will listen to them.

I know how big they are. A good friend has a pair of the Tangents. My point was that he won't gain any floor space, only that they will be shorter.

well as they say "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink". I agree with  you Bruce that there are more advantages to the taller Tangents than with the Heresy. The OP get to choose what floats his boat. I hope that other readers of the thread see the benefits of the Tangent option and at $400.00 Canadian that is a very good deal.

    Although commonly known in Europe by its Mullard–Philips tube designation of ECC83, other European variations also exist including the low-noise versions 12AX7A, 12AD7, 6681, 7025, and 7729; European versions B339, B759, CV492, CV4004, CV8156, CV8222, ECC803, ECC803S, E2164, and M8137; and the lower-gain low-noise versions 5751 and 6851, intended for avionics equipment.

In European usage special-quality valves of some sort were often indicated by exchanging letters and digits in the name: the E83CC was a special-quality ECC83. In the US a "W" in the designation, as in 12AX7WA, designates the tube as complying with military grade, higher reliability specifications.

The 'E' in the European designation classifies this as having a 6.3 volt heater, whereas the American designation of 12AX7 classifies it as having a 12.6 volt heater. It can, of course, be wired for operation off either voltage.

  16. Antifa has taken over a seven block area in Capital Hill with armed barricades at the entry ways and exits. They threatened to burn down the police station so the mayor ordered the police to leave the station and the citizens to deal with the terrorists. I imagine that folks in Seattle are preoccupied. I hope they are. The military should be there with orders to use deadly force (IMO). The thugs want the police abolished and prisons closed. This is the heart of true progressive democrat left in America today.
