  1. Eric: there will be a large cap feeding into the auto transformer 3 or 4 uf depending upon your xover but will be marked that is the cap which has gone bad. Youu can replace that one (maintain polarity if it is an electrolytic) or use a plastic cap like a mylar (which is non polar so either direction). chances are the other caps are on the way too but this will get you up and running. Good luck buddy. Best regards Moray James. I can mail you a drawing if you need it.
  2. Why don't you just pull one of your mid diaphragms out and look? They all have to go the same way. You could wind them any way you want (both the same) and set them by ear when you install and stick new tags on them if you have to. Regards Moray James.
  3. Loctite adhesives have products for plastics ask them for a good first choice. Best regards Moray James.

  5. All of these sound excellent. Regards Moray James. Antique Sound Lab Tulip 2A3. Meitner STR50 upgraded by John Wright of Museatex. Sansui AUDllMkll upgrades by John Wright of Museatex.
  6. Hudson Valley Noah (forum member) has some of these horns for sale if you just want to replace. Regards Moray James.
  7. These speakers will benefit from new Titanium diaphragms as well as new networks. Al Klapenberger's Forte network will drop into the mid / hi horn section and you can experiment with the bass section. Al's network hepls make the speaker an easier load which your little amp will approve of. Three to four hundred is about average but I have seen them for less recently. Keep an eye on Craig's List for your best possible price. Good luck have fun. Best regards Moray James.
  8. I have owned Quad 57's Quad 63's a good number of Acoustat's and I have modified Acoustat's as well. I worked on a set of Dayton-Wright electrostats and had them in my system for a while. I have had Magnepan and a host of Fostex full range speakers. The Forte ll while not perfect (what is) stock has to me one of the best balanced sounds I have found. The Quartet uses the same horns as the Forte ll but runs a ten inch woofer and twelve inch passive where the Forte ll uses a twelve inch woofer and a fifteen inch passive. I think the size of the Quartet is very domestic especially given that it wants to sit near the wall out of the way of the room. As I said with horns this works to your advantage unlike most direct radiators which need to be out into the room. I still think you should pick up the Cornwall's as you can audition them and see what you think and still recover your investment later. You would probably like the Quartet's a lot. They do deserve new Titanium diaphragms and a new crossover (Al Klappenberger of ALK Engineering has a design for the Forte's which will work in a Quartet with minimal changes) and this applies to all the Heratige speakers. That done they will be top notch. You can upgrade as time and funds permit. The Quartet's would benefit from being placed on stands to raise the level of the horns. They look excellent with the stock riser removed and then placed upon four post stands, see Skylan Stands for good examples. Quartets will get you into the upper mid thirty hert range. They are efficient. I think that the K-704 mid horn used inthe Quartet Forte ll and Chorus ll is possibly one of the best horns Klipsch has designed. They reproduce midrange with the detail and resolution of the best electrostats but with body I have not experienced from stats. Cornwall's actually have less bass extension compared to Quartet's but have greater impact. You can try the Cornwals while you look for a set of Quartet's and compare the two. Any of these speakers will happy with the amp that you have in the size of room you have. Any of these speakers can generate solid controlled bass and if you are finding this lacking look to your amp as the issue not with the speakers. I hope this is helpful. Good luck finding your speaker. Best regards Moray James.
  9. The daline's will go lower but you trade efficiency to get that and you do not have an amp to drive them if you had them. You said you could get a set of Cornwalls for $600.00. Buy them and try them on for size. You can sell them and get your money back. Remember the Cornwal can be massaged with titainium diaphragms and new crossover parts for significant improvements in performance when you can afford to do so if you like them. I think that you will like them. Your experience with the Cornwall's will be useful and they are very efficient so you amp will be able to drive you out of the room if you want it to. Get them before they are gone and give them a test drive. You have nothing to lose. Best regards Moray James.
  10. The Klipsch titanium diaphragms are exceptional from what I have been told by others including a buddy who's opinion I trust. I have just bought some for myself. Being very efficient Klipsch will show up electronic distortion lower efficiency speakers will not. The main reason small speakers are often placed well int the room on stands is to minimize wall bounce with directional speakers (horns) you don't have that problem and the speakers can be placed near to the front wall of the room where it will enjoy bass reinforcement.Small two way speakers are not going to get you any lower in response and if you want deep bass or want to play movies you would have at least one sub either way. If you want to place the Heresy up on a stand and into the room you can adjust the mid and hi horns down in level so they will sound balanced. The speaker controls horn level with an auto transformer which has multiple taps so you can adjust to set the balance. Heresy are designed and come with small risers and the speaker sits on the floor near a wall or corner, this augments bass and so the horns are adjusted to balance for this. If you have them on a stand into the room they will naturally sound bright so make the adjustment necessary and all will be well. I think that your concerns would be best dealt with if you were to find a Heresy owner who would let you have a listen. There is a reason this design has lasted on the market since 1958. They work. Klipsch has slowly made them better and the Mklll is probably the best yet. Best regards Moray James.
  11. The efficiency is such that your concern is not a worry. Bass control is more a factor of the amp used. I have a 2A3 ASL Tulip which has stunning depth and bass weight with excellent control. More power gets you more level. A three way insures coherency across the band which you wont get as well with a two way. With a two way the crossover has to be smack dab in the middle of your midrange right where your ear is mosst sensitive to it. Three way is the better compromise in my opinion. Below are the spec for a Heresy lll. You can play louder than you will probably wan to with 3-4 watts. If you don't like the sound don't look at the speaker. Specifications FREQUENCY RESPONSE 58Hz-20kHz(+-)3dB POWER HANDLING 100 w max continuous (400 w peak) SENSITIVITY 99dB @ 1watt/1meter NOMINAL IMPEDANCE 8 ohms CROSSOVER FREQUENCY HF: 5000Hz LF: 850Hz MAXIMUM ACOUSTIC OUTPUT 116dB SPL TWEETER K-107-TI 1" (2.54cm) Titanium diaphragm compression driver HIGH FREQUENCY HORN Tractrix Horn MIDRANGE K-53-TI 1.75" (4.45 cm) Titanium diaphragm compression driver MID FREQUENCY HORN Exponential Horn WOOFER K-28-E 12" (30.48cm) Fiber-composite cone ENCLOSURE MATERIAL MDF ENCLOSURE TYPE Sealed DIMENSIONS 23.81" H (60.48 cm) x 15.5" W (39.37 cm) x 13.25" D (33.66 cm) WEIGHT 44 lbs unboxed FINISHES Walnut Lacquer, Cherry Lacquer, Black Lacquer BUILT FROM 2006
  12. Thank you for posting I will read theis tonight. Best regards Moray James.
  13. There is nothing wrong with a large woofer and it will give you better control of the air in the room at low frequencies when compared to a small long throw woofer. If you are concerned about too much bass in you room why not try a Heresy lll as that will give you good bass extension (on par with good small two way speakers) and higher efficiency for your small amp. You did not give any additional information as to if you prefered a two way Vs a three way but having most of the music reproduced by a single mid horn has a lot of advantages. Horns are much more direction than small direct radiators which means you will have much less room interaction with your music. Heresy lll's can be purchased for about $1600.00 new less used. Hope this is of assistance. Best regards Moray James.
  14. Is there a formal Klipsch info paper explaining the adjusting of the mid and hi horn level? If Heresy's are to be used on speaker stands placed into the room the horns need to be adjusted down in level as they are set up for sitting on risers on the floor where the bass output will be higher. If the tap position is changed then I am told the capacitor needs to be changed as well to maintain the crossover point. Does anybody know of any factory directions to do this? This would seem like a commonthing for people to do. Thanks for any direction regarding this. Best regards Moray James.
  15. That my friendis why they have estate sales. Have been to a few in my time. Hope mine will be a nice affair. I assume the kids will absorb the bulk. Best regards Moray James.
  16. Dennis: that's interesting could you say what you did to the KLF30's to achieve this (electronicly or acoustically)? Best regards Moray James.
  17. Thank you William. Yes it does make sense given the efficiency of the system and the small diaphragm size and the fact Klipsch wants to get to or close to 20K top end response. I had figured around this looking at the Reference two ways. I was thinking about getting a 5.2 horn to use in a centre channel for a set of Forte ll'. The more I thought about it the more it did not make enough sense. So I got a Forte ll mid horn the K-704 and I have a tweeter here. So now I have to figure out this efficiency or sensitivity business 4 or 8 ohmsseries or parallel for a couple of 8 inch drivers. Anybody here figure this out already? Chime in if you have chine in in if you have an idea. Best regards Moray James.
  18. I am wondering what the crossover frequency is for the KG 5.2 and 5.5 speakers? Thanks. regards Moray James.
  19. A buffer might get you there. Grant Audio have a small tube buffer that is not too expensive and sounds good. You will still need to have some form of level control so a dedicated amp would be a more logical option or a portable cd player with a built in amp and volume control.Best regards Moray James.
  20. good source of info here http://www.audioheritage.org/
  21. try here http://community.klipsch.com/forums/81.aspx
  22. Try a set of these in ear Stax electrostatic ear speakers. Are they better than speakers? Yes but they are a phone they won't shake you like a loudspeaker but they go lower than anything in the Klipsch loudspeaker line up and they can play loud enough to cause you problems. They are fantastic for setting up your turntable and they are a great reality check for what is on your recordings. If these fit your ear cannal properly they are one of the best phones Stax have but they don't fit everyone so try then out. As an add on Stax have a portable version of these and thet amp is a little better sounding than the table top version. Hope this is of interest.
